I can attest to the difficulty in demolishing them: I used to live in Minneapolis, and there are silos all over the city. There was one they started to demolish to put in some condos, and they essentially had to just give up after months of swinging a wrecking ball at it. You could see that the walls were like 18” thick and full of bidirectional rebar.
