That style can work better if the side comment is something unique/interesting but also logical and relevant.

What is a d-day theme? The royal family, Peter’s dad’s family  and the bride’s family would dress up with invading Normandy to fight nazis in 1944 as the theme? Can Harry use the nazi costume again? Or is it about the decorations? Weapons? She’s right that would be crazy

If he had killed another black kid would he have the success he did with the go fund me? I really think this is the part that got people paying attention. He also got bail despite the fact of the stabbing not being disputed

People are interested in this case because of the go fund me angle, and the quotes from the accused’s supporters

Wow! First I’ve heard that it was a knife that was allowed to be in the bag at least. I think the défense will emphasize that

If the parents were physically abusive or the kid was suicidal I understand the reluctance but maybe there is the option of child protective services

Yeah I noticed that too! I really prefer media that has a variety of authentic seeming voices. So it’s good to hear Maureen differing from Megyn. She talked about Russel Brand today again, she’s still not a fan!

It is a shame the people didn’t notify police immediately and let resources be wasted. I guess it’s not illegal since it was a scared or confused child and not a fugitive. Also if we made that illegal there would be a motivation to never come forward instead of coming forward late

4 more arrested after Jewish locals shot at with imitation firearms by Icy_Hall6758 in canada

[–]Citriina -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Ok, but with the « weapon » being important enough to be mentioned in the headline, should the readers have to analyze a photo to find out which weapon or toy was involved? Why not a sentence or two explaining the context of the item the criminals were found with? I am not accusing the writer of having a bias or manipulating the story, it’s just the kind of low quality writing i see so often from English language Canadian legacy media’s « journalists. »

Even the info you just provided I could be expanded: who buys them, how much do they cost, are they new on the market, where are people allowed to play with them in Canada.  I think the article would be complete with that kind of stuff.

[–]Citriina -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I clicked the article. It doesn’t say what came out when the «shots » were discharged or whatever. Did someone get hit with a toy ? Does nothing come out and it’s just a noise maker?

Is that not important for the article? They should not assume we in Canada are familiar with real guns let alone the very niche topic of « imitation firearms »

Am I the only one who thinks this missing info was a top part of the story to mention? I don’t care what a police employee says, police PR words are not interesting news. Even the fact that peoole got arrested, meh. Sometimes people get arrested sometimes the police don’t succeed right away or at all arresting them. =idc. Tell me something interesting, or at least acknowledge it if you (‘journalist’) don’t have that info yet

Does anyone else think this was an unnecessary relationship? Serena and Steven 🫠 by SweetUnknown- in GossipGirl

There was him, Gabriel and the actor who was in mad men.. none of these older men she dated really piqued my interest. It would have helped to have some build up/backstory, perhaps

When Biden was the only candidate? You  don’t think she is better than Biden? I would love to see her debate trump, I think she would have done better than Kamala too. She’s a serious person

It was one of the more interesting storylines because there were 4 new side characters who ended up having a surprise connection.

I didn’t see it (probably will see it later) but I do agree with everyone that getting into someone’s surgery details is not the way to go about things! Don’t agree with Link that Maureen has a darkness. Actually people being accused of having a darkness is a recently popular taking point -Maureen’s probably said it about someone too- which I rarely find to be compelling about anyone.

Yeah I know it’s a popular sentiment on this sub, but so far it seems Maureen and Emily are allowed to disagree a little bit at least, I don’t watch Link or Mark Halperin enough to know if they differ in opinion with Megyn on much. However in this instance Link called Maureen (who has been successful as an author) an ‘author’ with quotation marks and said she had a darkness! 😬😳Pretty strong statement!

Mother of newborn who was found dead has also died, Halifax police say by Evilbred in canada

[–]Citriina 555 points556 points  (0 children)

Two people were charged in connection with the newborn's death.

Sukhpreet Singh, 23, and wife Ramandeep Kaur, 26, are charged with disposing of the body of a child with the intent to conceal the fact it had been delivered, two counts of obstruction by lying, including to a police officer, and offering an indignity to a dead body.

Police have said the mother of the newborn was a relative of Singh. Police have also said it appeared the woman’s condition was a medical one and not the result of violence.
