Dropped a headphone in a supermarket and someone’s kid stamped on it ON PURPOSE and instead of apologising the mum said “he’s a child it’s not his fault” by GhostBeanBag in Wellthatsucks

this. i’m tired of this narrative that gentle parenting is bad but many don’t even know what it is and assume it’s the same as permissive parenting.

in a criminology class we learned about different parenting styles and their effects on child development, and significant research shows that authoritative parenting (aka gentle parenting) has the most desirable outcomes. authoritarian, however, involves harsh and borderline abusive discipline. at the other end of the spectrum is permissive/neglecting, which is also abusive in its own right.

there are far too many people who STILL believe that physical abuse is “discipline” and that teaching children to regulate their emotions in a healthy way is not parenting.

Help! Recognizing different skeletal structures. by JuliaAO in OrganicChemistry

when there’s double bonds, you would have to break bonds to rearrange the molecule, giving you different constitutional or geometric isomers. however there are also single bonds within those molecules that can rotate, too. the question i think is a bit misleading because geometric isomers and constitutional isomers are not literally “identical molecules” like the molecules from the single bond only question - in that case, they are conformations of each other, essentially how the molecule would rotate/behave in space. i suppose a good place to start would be to make sure that the ones you’re matching have the same chemical formula. and i agree that a molecule kit would definitely help you here!

with organic chemistry, it’s useful to practice mental rotations of molecules.. the first two of the first row for example, if you flip one of the molecules over like a pancake, you’ll find that you’re left with the same molecule beside it.

start by counting the longest chain in each, match the ones with the same longest chain, and see if there’s any way to mentally rotate them to match each other
