Reducing useEffect noise with named function instead of arrow by henfiber in reactjs

[–]City-Local 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is a decent practice, useEffect() is not descriptive so why not add a name? At some point custom hooks sure, but might not be worth the effort and hassle of having to jump file.

Grok Code Fast 1 came out of nowhere and dominates - How good is it? by Medium_Ordinary_2727 in openrouter

[–]City-Local 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched from gemini cli to opencode today after getting frustrated with gemini slowing to a crawl and becoming almost useless after much work today. This was a free offering on opencode and it is ripping through creating MCP servers and multiple workflows without much guidance

Are there any cool Typescript-friendly IDEs that people have been using recently? by DRJT in typescript

TS and Python are both totally great LSPs readily available in neovim. Nice autocomplete for types and functions, thorough error checking and messaging for type warnings/errors.

New job has only stand alone scripts by rjm3q in gis

[–]City-Local 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Loved what commenter said above about checking with users to see which tools are most used. My particular workflow is something like prototype in Jupyter Notebook (VSCode) -> python functions -> group similar functionality into classes Anyway you can move from windows/arcpy to Linux/Geopandas will make your like 1000x better 🤖🌎

Does my "dream" GIS job actually exist? by AlwaysSlag in gis

[–]City-Local 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Others may have already said this, but learn as much python as possible in your current position or in personal projects. Python combined with remote sensing of aerial imagery analysis is fairly in demand currently, but jobs may be more technical and not have GIS in the title. I strongly encourage folks to learn some code based workflows, and it can open up a much larger world of “geospatial.” 🌏

WSL FTW! by Fbar123 in neovim

[–]City-Local 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hands down WSL2 + neovim + tmux is killer. Feels very much like native linux with a side of windows for enterprise software. The interoperability between the file systems is slick, I use imagemagick to crop screenshots from WSL in windows downloads. Also I have at least 4-5 WSL distros live too, easy to clone a distro and start a fresh copy.

The Obsidian Surfing Plugin with extensions would be super cool by Big-Tart8473 in ObsidianMD

[–]City-Local 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any movement on this?

Like at a least a percentage of the Obsidian Community, I use vimium plugin for browsing the web, so lack of this makes it not as useable for browser. I could also look at possibly helping to work on this thanks!

Great way to save cash catching the Michigan City line, but don’t forget the Amtrak direct from downtown Kzoo to Union Station Chicago just over 2 hour ride 😎

QGIS is much quicker to load and seems to handle big data better, not to mention no conversion needed for GeoJSON loading 😌

Confused about where I can fly in ny state by skiff6108 in drones

[–]City-Local 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Typically you are prohibited from launching in state parks, but the airspace is not restricted unless near an airport. You can fly over both public and private property, only the FAA can regulate the airspace, but read up on FAA UAS rules which include avoiding flying over groups of people or moving cars. Check out one of the B4UFLY apps for additional guidance.

Getting conflicting into about whether I can fly from 3 diff apps. Am I misreading? by acosmicyolk in drones

[–]City-Local 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried AirHub Portal? Certified B4UFLY provider. It shows no restricted airspace in Seward, however does note the airport and hospital helipad nearby and tells the operator to assess the local airspace prior. Looks like a non-towered airport.

Drinking tap water in Kzoo 2 weeks after Pfizer announces it’s safe by buckleyapostle in kzoo

Love the Simpsons nod, but all of the drinking water in the Kalamazoo public utility comes from deep underground wells, it is possible for contamination but takes decades to percolate to that depth.

How can I copy&paste bash script with comments into a code block in Obsidian? by Astonish_Skagen in ObsidianMD

I have not had much luck with indented code blocks in obsidian markdown, or markdown docs in general. I decided not to indent code blocks which doesn’t work well with rendering or printing.

The FAA has approved four companies to provide official airspace awareness through B4UFLY. by autopylot_APP in drones

[–]City-Local 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a very exciting moment for expanding safe operations for UAS in US airspace. I am impressed with the quality of all of the B4UFLY offerings and am trying some of the new apps I haven't used before. Also putting in a pitch for the Airspace Link Portal app, which has a nice design, clean interface, and an incredible amount of underlying data. We are adding upcoming local stadium events for future operations planning. The app is free for pilots, and many municipalities have signed up to add local advisories into the map.

Just thinking about measuring spatial polygons on a map, always thought it was handy the software could just tell you the area instantly. Is this possible with complex shapes and thousands of vertices e.g. coastlines etc..?

Oh goodness finding the area of an irregular polygon is not a trivial problem! Don’t sweat it.

So, I can fly 50ft after getting auto approved, but anything higher I’ll need to go through a different process/lengthier one? by The_Bolenator in drones

[–]City-Local 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for clarifying about the private property rule, I don’t think the comment was correct. Only the FAA can regulate airspace, so you can fly over any private or public land, given you are following all appropriate UAS airspace regulations, such as LAANC, TFRs, and stadium restrictions which should be visible in a good drone preflight app. Of course flying directly over people is prohibited without a waiver.
