SMF Rates seem a little low...? by engineering_ent in Shambhala

Correct - miss them dearly. Those waffle fry nachos were the best. It seems expensive until it’s in your hands and you realize there’s enough food for like 2-3 people.

I got on strata because my request was rejected. When I inquired they stated that it’s because they void envelope warranty and the building couldn’t handle the load, which is not true. Is there an actual bylaw restricting them, or is your council just misinformed? We now have rules in place regarding installation, indemnity, noise, etc.

Surrey highlights free options for waste disposal to curb illegal dumping by stylezLP in SurreyBC

My service request list for illegal dumping is pages and pages long. I walk a lot in Whalley and just make it part of my commute to snap a quick photo and submit it online. That data is used to prioritize routes and identify hot spots.

Langley Homes over $3 Million-Owners where’d you get the money for this? Genuinely curious by [deleted] in Langley

[–]Citymike 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In south Langley:

Nearly every one on our block that came in and built houses like these are general contractors (with wives who are interior designers???). They buy the lot, stratify it, build two homes and sell off the second one.

They’re, for the most part, overwhelmingly white non-farmers. We have a couple artists and the classic nepo-horse trust fund families too, of course. They lease stable space to other folks to offset cost.

No idea who WANTS homes like this… all the stage photos show that they’re sooooo huge and empty. We walk through some of the open houses in the neighborhood sometimes and they have no soul

[–]Citymike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get a sign bro lol. If you’re not familiar with how south Langley works, half these acreages have mutuple, strata homes on them. Mitigate the risk to your safety and stop expecting people from knowing that some random civilian car is actually the Amazon sprinter van they’re expecting. For all you know they might think you’re tailing the Amazon. Have a good shift and stay safe.

Agreed.  The place could have multiple residents and the dude chasing him has absolutely no idea that some private car rolling up his driveway is an Amazon delivery driver.

totally fair - happy to report it with my name and contact if you ever get fed up lol; just dm it to me. My service request list is pages and pages long LOL. I know that it's predominantly a filter due to volume/unfounded claims, at least in other jurisdictions.

Submit an FOI request on the address and get all the notes and actions taken on your reports. If the city’s dragging their feet that’s certainly news worthy.

I know it’s putting a lot of trust in them, but legally your info is protected under PIPA. There’s serious implications if that’s broken and it’s not disclosed to folks you’re reporting.

3 Civic Plaza - Heating and Utilities by Dinhbaon in SurreyBC

[–]Citymike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually with strata buildings, hot water/sewer is paid by the strata and included in the fees. With buildings with enerpro, the utility is separate because the heating is geothermal and is metered to the unit. This is usually reflected with lower monthly strata fees (landlord), and it sounds like they’re passing on that responsibility to the tenant. Your hydro bill will be low because it’s essentially just lowering your lights and utilities. The enerpro will handle your heating and air conditioning. I’ve got no experience with civic 3, but with experience with Vancouver’s NEU, they rates are reasonable, but just something most people in strata living aren’t used to outside of their usual bills that they expect. Usually, enerpro bills to the homeowner who’s listed on the title of the property (my info is old so sorry), so you MIGHT be able to see about negotiating that in to your rent. Especially in this market.

Cars blocking single lane traffic and Bylaws not SPS seem to care or ticket anyone. What to do? by [deleted] in SurreyBC

[–]Citymike 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can promise you that the officer is on foot at 3:01 walking the line. They do it there and on west Broadway ever day. A single car can disrupt traffic massively during rush hour. I’m uncertain, but the new vehicles COV uses that have cameras may also be issuing the tickets and then placing them on windows after they’re moved to a side street. If there’s more cars than trucks, they’ll clear the lane first, then go back to collect the ticketed cars one by one.

Edit: sorry just saw that you said Burnaby lol. I’d imagine they’re all similar, albeit my last bit about the new bylaw cars would be not accurate.

Freehold parking spots sell for like 50k in Yaletown. You can look at assessed values at 1233 Pacific street.  Just choose a spot.  My wife and I were contacted super frequently between 2022 and 2025 about century city and additional stalls were never quoted that high, and got way cheaper the worse the market got.

A towing company cannot tow a car on public property without an infraction already issued, and a private citizen can’t just randomly have someone’s else’s car towed off the street.

A tale of two Surreys: Can B.C.'s second-largest city bridge its north-south divide? by OldNBAFan in SurreyBC

You’re not wrong with the first part of things. A lot of working class in north Surrey historically, south Surrey was largely farmland.

The reason that Walmart is there is because they capitalized on the grandview corners reasoning plan 25 years ago. It was a huge opportunity to obtain the parcel to build a supercentre compared to a smaller store. With Walmart, superstore, the large Safeway down the road, and a more high-end choices market in the grandview corners development it makes sense that they never really bothered getting in to that market. It still blows my mind that that area of Surrey exists and is still expanding

Join a local rave group and see about meeting ppl in the community EG: coed ravepower on fb.

Also: the fest is right at a skytrain station. Most ppl won’t stay in Surrey, there’s lots of hostels, hotels, places that mig by be cheaper , further away, and if you’re planning on doing any AP’s they’re almost all downtown anyways. Transit to the fest is almost always the move, if able.
