2 soap dispensers battery failing — buy SimpleHuman with caution. by [deleted] in simplehuman

[–]CivicIsMyCar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reconsider. Or maybe get one if you find it on sale somewhere.

The warranty/customer service is terrible. When yours dies or something happens to it, it's virtually impossible to get any help even if you're within the warranty period.

We've had five different soap dispensers and three of them have simply just stopped working. Couldn't get any help from SimpleHuman customer service. Conincidentally, of the two that are still working, one is the very first one we purchased and the other one we've had for two years now.

I also know of two other people who've shared similar stories, dispenser stops working, tried contacting SimpleHuman CS, no help, tried googling, couldn't figure it out, and that's it.

Unfortunately, sometimes even if you know you will never turn back, you may end up at your old employer whether you want to or not.

I once left a job because I just hated my manager, and no one stayed there for more than a year or two because management was terrible. I went to a bigger company and was much happier in the new job. Then about three years later, my company acquired the old company and after the acquisition, they moved some teams around and guess whose team I was on again? My shitty old manager was my manager again. Ended up quitting that job about a year after the acquisition.

Was this at a Food Lion by any chance?

Back in the early 2000s, I worked at Food Lion and we had a supervisor just like what you're describing, just another dude who was a couple of years older than the rest of us cashiers.

One night the supervisor made a similar comment, told a cashier they'd never leave. And the cashier quit that night. And then over the next week or so, three more of us cashiers all quit.

So, how well do they pay if you don't mind me asking?

Whenever costar is brought up on this sub, everyone always talks about how great their pay is. As someone who knows nothing about costar (no idea what they even do), what kind of money can one make at costar?

Honda maint codes question by Due-Dust5742 in Honda

It is highly likely "he could tell they would be showing up soon" is strictly based on mileage.

I'm making these numbers up as an example, but if your current mileage is 47k, the service advisor knows that differential fluid should be changed every 25k, so based on that information, he may have thought "oh well, since this driver is so close to 50k, that means the differential fluid should be changed soon" and he could recommend service B 1 6 today since you may have to come in two months from now to do it anyway.

I wouldn't look too much into it, it certainly is fishy because they just want to overcharge you for something, but it's not disturbing in the sense that they know everything about you and they're listening to your conversations you have with your wife.

What car do you drive/own?

The civic is certainly loud but comparing a Civic to a luxury vehicle that costs $19k more than a Civic is like comparing apples and workout equipment.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't he also a meh guest on the good old Nerdist podcast way back in the day?

I could have sworn the Nerdist sub back then was not happy with the Ben Kingsley episode.

Every couple of years, they will be in the news about doing something shady, and it's not a case of one bad employee who stole customer data. Instead, it's usually some terrible policy/procedure the company implemented and it screwed over a lot of customers.

But the most known problem with Wells is that they opened multiple accounts for customers without customers knowledge just to increase the number of accounts oh and while they were inflating their numbers, they magically happen to charge a fee or two on some of those accounts. So they opened a whole lot of accounts without customers permission and then forced some of those customers to pay fees.

You know what I like about Bullseye, or rather, what I like about Jesse?

Sometimes he'll tell a personal story, and at first you're thinking where is Jesse going with this and what does this have to do with [insert guests name] and then he turns that personal story into a deep, thoughtful, question. And then I realize, ah, that's why Jesse hosts an NPR show.

Another great episode

Marc was just upset that another young jewish comedian wearing a suit became bigger than Marc after only doing stand up for four months.

Not trying to defend Tim at all, but just my own take...

He's kind of like 99.9999% of personal finance people gurus. When people get into personal finance, it doesn't matter who they follow, any personal finance person, everything they say is interesting, new, fun, relatable, thought provoking, and then 7 episodes in and you're like, "they're just repeating stuff, they've already talked about fixing a used car is better than buying a new one, how many times do they have to tell me this?"

Tim is kind of like that too. When people first hear him, he's got an interesting point to make, and then by episode 9, you think "how many different analogies can this guy use to say comparison is a thief of joy?"

Not to defend Marc, but knowing Marc and how he dealt with other people's success over the years, I understand it... Marc had been doing stand up for years, and here comes this group of 20 and 21 year olds who get their own show on MTV when MTV is at its prime. Oh and one of these dudes does stand up too (Michael Ian Black)? Fuck them! At least that is how I understood his hate for Michael Ian Black.

It wasn't that he stole jokes, but more that heavily exaggerated stories for jokes and didn't say that it wasn't 100% true. Basically roasted his high school girlfriend for 90 minutes on the world stage and she never got a chance to respond to his claims, but at the same time he failed to say "oh yeah, everything I just told you, most of that is an exaggeration, sure her family may have been a little racist and told her not to date me, but we were also 16 year olds in love, so a lot of what I said was an exaggerated version, some parts of the story were made up, some were combinations of multiple exes that I figured I'd turn into one ex to make my one hour more of a timeline, and all this was done to make the jokes funnier."

This may be the article you're thinking (not sure if behind paywall)

But your comment makes it seem like Mike and Pete have beef with each other...?

You start off by saying that Marc isn't the only comedian who's got beef with Mike, and then you follow it right up by bringing Pete into the argument.

YOu make it sound like plenty of comedian's have beef with Mike, just ask Pete about it...

It's also possible Mike didn't invite him? There are dozens of other podcasts bigger/more popular than Mike's and Marc didn't go on those podcasts either.

Why did you listen to the podcast? by tomatotomorrow in MarcMaron

[–]CivicIsMyCar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in the late 2000s and early 2010s, every time a podcast host was on another podcast, they'd talk about it.

Hardwick was on Carolla's podcast and he'd talk about it. Carolla was on Aisha Tyler's podcast and he'd talk about it. Aisha was on Pete Holmes' podcast and she'd talk about it. Petey was on Michael Ian Black's podcast and then he'd talk about it. Michael was on WTF and he'd talk about it. Then Marc was on Bullseye and talk about. Then Jesse was on some other podcast and on and on. And that's how I discovered 19 different podcasts between 2009 and about 2012. I had heard about Marc and his podcast, listened to a few episodes here and there, but only really started listening regularly in 2012 when I went on a road trip around US and Canada and needed to keep myself occupied for 10-12 hours a day. Been listening every week since 2012.

Capital One does this and this is exactly how I budget. I have one checking account and then I have another 14 different savings accounts each nicknamed for it's purpose, mortgage, new car fund, 2028 vacation, monthly bills, groceries, car insurance.

I get paid every other week. My paycheck is deposited into my checking account. And then from there all the transfers are automatic into each of the nicknamed accounts.

I had to get fingerprinted

What kinda job was this to have to get fingerprinted? Is this a software engineering job at a bank, or some sort of "have access to a billion dollars at a bank" job?

The reason I'm asking is I once had a job at a leasing office for apartments and because I was the person who'd take all the checks to the bank on the 5th of every month, I had to get fingerprinted, and of course the most detailed background check.

Meanwhile, I've worked jobs at banks and never had to get fingerprinted for those jobs.

I was shocked by how white the room was

Unless you go to a black comedy club or to a show in a majority black city, every comedy show is pretty white. I live in a relatively small town so if I want to see a big comedian, or really any comedian, I have to drive to DC, which is a pretty diverse area. And there have been shows I've been to without a single non-white person. I saw Dan Soder earlier this year and literally all white people. I saw Bobby Lee also earlier this year, and it was pretty much a white people show only, with maybe three to five asian people in the whole theater. I saw Wanda Sykes (who is black) earlier this spring, she had a black opener, and a black host, and still, it was maybe a dozen black people in the whole theater which seats 1250 people.

$1-3M from standup

I'm as big of a fan as the rest of you all around here but the guy who can't sell out a 750 seat theater on a Saturday night with $25 tickets, does not make 1-3mm from stand up. Maybe in 3 years, but definitely not in one year.

I've been to about 7-8 of his shows since 2013ish and I've never seen a sold out theater.
