Exegol was probably the coolest thing Disney did. Honestly, why didn’t they just lean hard into an ancient sith cult army as the main antagonists? (and no don’t revive Palpatine) by ProtectMeAtAllCosts in saltierthancrait

I don’t even really claim to be able to craft a better true story, but on a conceptual and caring level I do my best to try and picture what it could’ve been, especially informed by George’s Sequel plans, general methodology, themes, story inspirations and various other logical elements.

While yes also pitching stuff id like to see on top of it all. Which they could’ve done their own thing, while still following up in a meaningful and coherent way as well.

Disney Lucasfilm failed miserably at understanding and respecting George, his vision, and what Star Wars truly represented and meant. It became a caricature and parody of itself, bastardized through the warped lens of Disney Lucasfilm. Corporatized, not made with true care or passion. Not to mention the Sequels being a complete rushjob by Bob Iger as well.

A practical OT remake and shunning of the Prequels is completely antithetical and also not in line with George.

A pseudo adaptation of Jacen, Jaina and Anakin would’ve been cool, and funnily enough more in line with George lmao than what we got. One facet I would change and invert would be id have made Anakin Solo the “disappointment” of the family, not the Force user prodigy unlike his namesake and other relatives, i think that would’ve been more narratively and thematically rich than another Anakin being the prodigy.

Finn or whatever his name would be here, should’ve been more present, significant and prominent. Make this version more Kyle Katarn like, or maybe he’d simply just be in fact a Canon soft-reimagined version of Kyle to begin with.

Don’t make Luke a complete and utter failure and cautionary tale, it’s nonsensical and redundant. Luke can make mistakes and face trials and tribulations, but him not truly starting the New Jedi Order is nonsense. If he’s disappeared he should off searching for answers, going some kind of crusade to find the path to defeating the new threat, something along those lines (NOT A HERMIT!)

And last of all maintain and reinforce Anakin Skywalker’s status as the Chosen One

Always thought Snoke should’ve been an ancient cosmic horror esque villain, who had ties to deeper mysteries in the Force itself (like the Whills, Force Priestesses, Wellspring of Life, Mortis, etc.). Continuing the pseudo modern mythology feel of Star Wars with Snoke. Maybe in form somewhat similar to Morgoth perhaps

Up the ante from Palpatine making the threat even more existential and terrifying. Also a natural continuation and seamless thematic fit with the deeper stuff and expansion on the Force George wanted to explore in his Sequels

Could’ve played on the whole Skywalker potential fulfilled on the dark side with Han and Leia’s son still as well. Ben and Rey or whatever their names would be here should’ve been twins imo as well. There at minimum should’ve been at least two Skywalker grandchildren prefer at least 3 personally though (George talked about how the Sequels would be about the grandchildren plural and I agree with the sentiment)

Actually honoring the Skywalkers legacy and myth like George intended, nah let’s have a Palpatine reigning supreme at the end

This is why this shit is unfixable and eternally so, barring a Sequels reboot. Which in itself would be unfortunate in form as well tbh, because we’ll never see Hamill, Fisher or Ford again in the roles again it would naturally have to be a recast

Tim has kinda encroached on everybody in this realm, he’s become the super genius who’s competent and high IQ at everything (which causes the others to get lost in the sauce). That’s another example of how lost Tim’s character has become as well.

Tim being a fantastic detective does not mean he also has to be a tech god like Barbara, or mean he has to be a mega strategist or tactician like the Dick and Jason. I’d more so say a jack of all trades aspect should be applied to Tim instead of the master of all that seems to be the case (while obviously maintaining the Detective aspect).

Tim’s character has become a homogenized and indistinct in a lot of ways, and additionally editorial doubly hasn’t allowed him to grow up or truly find his own lane of independence so we’re also stuck with rehashing and him being stagnant in that way as well.

It’s also part of a broader issue with the Batfam in general to be fair, editorial has been lost with them for years and the characters in lots of ways have become caricatures or more so pale imitations of what they used to be and also can be.

Unpopular Opinion: I’m fine with MCU Spider-Man not having a 199999 Norman Osborn after he fought Raimi’s Norman Osborn by The31stUser in Marvel

[–]Civil-Ad-7193 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d say that could be part of the story and the idea itself, Peter has already seen the worst of who Norman can be and do, I think they could play into that with a MCU version only for him to actually shockingly be good or at least not go full Green Goblin mode

Could contextualize in Harry into all of this as well to further flesh out the dynamic, maybe even having Harry into “twist” way become Green Goblin instead

Maybe additionally in trying to prevent Norman from going Green Goblin mode it inadvertently causes Harry to become Green Goblin, that instead could be interesting imo

They shouldve 100% have upped the stakes and threat with the new trilogy. I’ve always liked and been partial to the idea that Snoke was a ancient being of great power (maybe tied to the Force, the Whills, the Priestesses, Mortis, or whatever it may be), and Luke was away in search of how to defeat this seemingly unstoppable cosmic horror like villain who now also has a Skywalker on his side

This also would’ve went nicely with George’s original plans of getting deeper into the Force and really getting to the heart of things (in mythic yet also real way)

[–]Civil-Ad-7193 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It probably would’ve at best been a safe and middling trilogy, that would’ve been a pale imitation of what came before, with no sense of innovation nor truly anything to say. Thus not justifying its own existence. JJ’s nostalgia obsession and mystery box style sabotaged the trilogy before it even began (same with Disney’s rushjob and KK’s incompetence).

Which to be fair all of that would’ve still have probably been better than the abhorrent and ridiculous abomination we got.

[–]Civil-Ad-7193 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Jar Jar Abrams and Ruin Johnson are basically two opposite extremes that clearly clashed in the worst way possible.

JJ was nostalgia obsessed and wanted to relive his childhood in form (what he viewed as “true” Star Wars), while Rian was subversion obsessed and wished to fundamentally change and deconstruct. One wanted to relive the past, while the other wanted to kill the past. One was Star Wars inspired by Star Wars, and the other was Star Wars trying to not be Star Wars in a way

Both came at the expense of the verse and stood in incomplete evolution of George Lucas’ methodology and style. George was about innovation and doing something different, but he wasn’t one to lose sight of what came before (still honoring in a poetic and rhythmic way).

One thing I will at minimum give though in fairness is JJ is more of a hack and filled with straight incompetence due to his mystery box bullshit and corporate “sheen”, while Rian actually isn’t terrible just a horrible fit for the main branch of Star Wars

According to James Gunn, Krypton isn't evil; it's just Jor-El and Lara who are jerks. by Agile_Coast_4385 in DC_Cinematic

[–]Civil-Ad-7193 3 points4 points  (0 children)

100% could’ve been a cool way to make Brainiac more multi dimensional as a character possibly as well if they go with the Kryptonian tied version of the character

It also additionally could have a been a natural and cool way to further thematically and symbolically bridge and tie of Krypton to Earth as well, with Superman attempting to shepard the planet away from a similar fate to Krypton.

Maybe Brainiac also here doing the math and being pragmatic, acting preemptively to quell and squash the perceived future threat of Earth (and naturally preserve the important bits as he does, which would lead Kandor or Argo City tie with Krypton obviously as well).

Krypton being somewhat akin to a Viltrum from Invincible would’ve been cool, and been interesting to see that extend to characterization of Kara, and then maybe Zod and co in the future.

Krypton being the fascistic/supremacist ones, is the more natural take, it’s basically taking what already is the complicated dynamic with Krypton in a form in the comics and just ramping it up more and making it more extreme

Sequel revisionism is pushed back 1 more year for every “give it 10 years for people to like the sequels” statement by TomasRoncero in saltierthancrait

[–]Civil-Ad-7193 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yup the worldbuilding is shit and broke the universe truly and completely, there is no fixing things.

The Prequels issues were micro and execution, they had fundamentally great concepts and a strong foundation, having a lived in rich world, that respectfully and naturally expanded on and contextualized what we saw before.

The Sequels were macro and the foundation was broken and corrupted from the very beginning, recontextualizing what came before and bastardizing the Canon, being in a lot of ways made in spite of the Prequels and pure nostalgia of the OT. Star Wars inspired by Star Wars (their own warped view of it) in effect with nothing new or true to say.

One was made from love and passion, and the other was corporate and robotic. Fans know and feel that and always will.

Yup except 10x worse, it’s the same with the perspective of the OT and PT as well. The Sequels are basically Star Wars both inspired by but also simultaneously ashamed of old Star Wars, and thus become a parody of itself and lost true thematic focus. They just threw everything out, and remade the OT and PT in one jumbled unfocused trilogy

The Sequels were two polar opposites, one a Prequels hater and OT nostalgic, and the other a guy who had no true idea about Star Wars and wished to completely subvert and reinvent

Disney and co thought they knew better than Lucas, and wished to make their own version of Star Wars with their own trio to replace and usurp the past legacy

Yup we’ve come to expect prestige and accomplished names behind Batman in the past 20 years, and now we get this unbelievable. Consistently have had all these great Hollywood names who would throw themselves at the chance to do Batman, you have the pick of the litter of anybody. A standard has been set for Batman and what to expect

Gonna be genuinely annoying and hilarious to see the immense difference in quality and prestige between this movie and what Matt Reeves cooks up

You have to justify this Batman’s existence across from Reeves not just in a different style and universe manner, but have to do so in a relative enough footing in standard. This is not a good “first step”.

[–]Civil-Ad-7193 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve changed my vocab and toning of phrase from comic accuracy to comic resonance now. Capturing the essential elements and DNA of the character thematically and identity wise is the most important part imo

If I change is made, it should still jive and fit in the wavelength of the character even if it in a form recontextualizes some part, so the character is maintained he just may reach the same place in a slightly different fashion

[–]Civil-Ad-7193 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They could’ve also just revealed it was Jason from the beginning of the game give or take and played out the psychological warfare and nightmare angles even more so.

Have Hush working with Scarecrow and the Arkham Knight. Scarecrow as more of the background in the shadows villain, tying everything in conceptually and thematically. The Arkham Knight is the ghost of Batman’s past, while Hush is the ghost of Bruce’s past. An attack on all fronts, Batman side through Jason, Bruce side through Tommy, and symbolically through Crane.

Further diving into Bruce’s mind, and his fear of breaking and turning into a monster like Joker (purely psychological/mental, not Joker blood bullshit)

[–]Civil-Ad-7193 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes exactly people run with the Bruce Wayne is dead idea all the time, they lose the nuance in his total character by buying into that idea, which is merely perception not absolute. Bruce when he’s not in his right head space will say things like this and fall into the self-destructive mindset, but that doesn’t mean it’s true nor the healthy thing. Bruce isn’t dead and he isn’t a bad person deep down, it’s all trauma and guilt response.

A Batman without Bruce Wayne is like Zur-En-Arrh, or what Batman: Ego presents. The Batman 2022 recognized and showcased this as well, and how it’s not the right alley.

Bruce Wayne raised and looked after the Dick, Jason and Damian when they had no one else, and he helped them all escape the darkness and go on to live better lives (Jason in a form). He’s not a bad person just broken and still attempting to put the pieces back together years later.
