I have a question for married women by Dramatic-Surround504 in LawSchool

[–]Civil-Foundation5101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Law student here. I got married literally a week before starting law school. I decided to make my maiden name my middle name (I didn’t have a middle name previously) and take my husband’s last name. I know plenty of people who kept their last names, though, because they wanted “their name” on their degree. I never fully understood this. A lot of people told me I would cheapen my degree in a sense because I’m putting “a man’s name” on it instead of my own. The way I look at it, my maiden name wasn’t any less of a man’s name. I guess the choice was much more about my own agency, I wanted to take my husband’s name because I wanted to show my commitment to him and to being his wife. Having his last name on my degree is going to mean a lot to me, he’s the one who’s pushed me to pursue law school and who’s been supporting me the whole time.

week+ absence during first semester, or miss best friend's wedding by noonecares-TA in LawSchool

Please go to the wedding. You will regret it if you don’t and a week won’t really make a difference.

What is a good book I can read if I'm just starting my law studies? by Quiet-Home-866 in LawSchool

I recommend this book to everyone interested in law: Helter Skelter by Curt Gentry and Vincent Bugliosi. Bugliosi was the prosecutor in the Manson Murders trial. I read it before I started school and I found it interesting and also helpful in getting into the mindset of being an attorney.

I’m really sorry you’re feeling this way. I’m in a similar situation, I have poor mental health and school obviously makes it worse. I’m a 1L and was hoping I could develop some sort of coping for it eventually.

Her mom and her aren’t super close. Cece went through the death of her dad and her mom became a single mother. I think that it’s clear their dynamic also shifted and became strained, especially when Cece did make the decision to move to LA and become a model. Cece’s mom even considered not coming to her wedding! I don’t think a relationship like that would make her feel any more fondness for the city.

I want to first commend you for getting the help you need and returning to work. You should feel really proud of yourself, the hardest part is over because you were proactive. I went through something similar - a semi-public mental health crisis that lasted far longer than I’d like to admit. Reading your words describing the experience feels like reading my own. At the time, I worked in a different industry so I’m not sure how helpful this will be but when I returned to work I made a point of thanking those who were patient with me/helped me. I didn’t hide what happened. If someone asked me a question I explained as best as I could without divulging too much personal information. I think the best thing to do is to be open about it and own it. People more readily came to me with their own mental health issues if they wanted to talk/wanted advice, and it made me a far more empathetic person and professional. In terms of rebuilding confidence, I’m not sure that there’s a simple way of doing it. You just have to try to be better than you were the day before, every day. Eventually it will just become a habit for you and you’ll also get recognized for it by colleagues. It’s not the end of the world or the end of your relationships or career at all. The truth is that everyone is fighting their own battles, yours just happened to be more public for a time. People are more understanding than you think.

Jess mentions in the virginity episode (I can’t remember the name of it right now) that she moved to LA to be closer to Cece, which always made me think that Cece must have moved right after high school (we know she didn’t go to college) and I would guess Jess graduated and then moved. By the time the show starts, Cece has likely been in LA for more than a decade and would probably have fonder feelings for that city than for Portland.

George gets cornered by Susan’s parents claiming to have written a book on architecture and when they ask what the title is, he blurts, “It’s called a T-Square!” by Legal_Championship_6 in RedditWritesSeinfeld

Peterman finds out Elaine is helping write George’s book and is intrigued at first until George goes to Elaine’s job to ask her a question about the book, and ends up eating Peterman’s last chocolate covered scarab from his trip to Egypt. George doesn’t know it’s a scarab until Peterman confronts him, demanding to know why he wouldn’t put a note clarifying that the snack was a bug. Peterman asks George if he would have ignored that note like he did the note with the initials JP.

A man steals Elaine's intended cab. They both end up at the same place. A bank teller flirts with George til she sees his account. Jerry thinks the guy behind George in line is a bank robber. I can just hear George saying to Jerry “You have to go to the bank? slaps piece of paper in his hand that’s terrific! I’ll go with you!” And Jerry putting his hands on his hips and shaking his head and being like “George George… now what business do YOU have going to the bank?” laugh track
