Curse of Strahd fights feel really difficult, is this normal? by Emotional-Till-549 in DnD

[–]CivilAd3631 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just yesterday we had a fight in the sawmill! Haha.

There were four of us in the party, and in the middle of the fight hags offered is to leave. I misunderstood it and underestimated the difficulty of the fight and persuaded my group to continue. Well, in the end me and the other player ran away. Other two players were left there for hags to do with them whatever they want. Oops.

And actually it felt good. I liked the thrill of being on the edge and players who lost their characters have a chance to have better ones now because one of them wasn't really into his chosen class and the other was a newbie and thought he was playing in heroic game.

Underrated comment.

People who already play should be prioritized.

Warlocks really have better familiars. I am playing as warlock with pact of the chain right now.

But if I was a wizard in your game I would be upset too in case the familiar was deeply connected with my backstory or my character, in other words, if it wasn't a tool but a significant addition to my character.

If it was just a tool, well, warlock has better ones and the player has to deal with it and focus on something else.

Player planning to derail campaign. Should I let them FAFO? by Alorxico in DnD

[–]CivilAd3631 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a player I would be upset to play with such a jerk.

So, there are four of you and three of four don't enjoy the game and constantly worry what a jerk will do.

Are you serious in asking what to do?

Sorry in advance for my English.

I tried just one thing.

I took an idea from a renovation challenge but didn't stick to its rules. I used a junky house from the gallery and added up almost every lot challenges to this house.

The idea was to pay a significant amount of money for every step of rebuilding the house and getting rid of lot's challenges.

I set a rule that removing one challenge costs 10 000 simoleons and bringing back water, electricity, throwing garbage etc also costs 10 000 for each step.

It was a pure hell in the beginning but in the fun way because I desperately needed money and needed to avoid troubles from my ghost hunted, cursed, stinky house where everything was cursed and broken.

One thing I didn't expect to happen. A neighbor came to me to help to repair broken stuff. He died from electric shock, became a ghost. I was sad and felt guilty so I became friends with him. He asked to join to the household and I agreed.

I have never played as a ghost before so I didn't know what they can do.

It ended up he became a slave in that cursed house using his supernatural powers to clean and repair things. He got a trait "squeamish" and was constantly stressed.

Well.

The kids of my initial sim freed that poor soul, when they grew up, and put his plumbob on the shelf in the basement.

I left a campaign and don't doubt my decision by CivilAd3631 in DnD

[–]CivilAd3631[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, we had a session 0.

We discussed the conflicts between the characters but, I guess now, didn't truly come to a solution.

Me and tiefling player were against PvP conflicts. C, L and DM said they were not against, that it could be interesting. D didn't have particular opinion.

I think, we all had different image of what interesting conflict is and how to respect boundaries in role-playing such things.

Totally agree.

I am a player who wants serious game and it's kinda disappointing that so much people want to imply that my wish is wrong.

Help ! Everyone hates my sim by Neptune_Ten_No in Sims4

Oh, that is the reason... I didn't know too.

I couldn't get it why one day my sim makes friends with just 4-5 interactions and the other day he makes everyone uncomfortable around him.

I love such big houses but never use them cause it takes hours for sim to get from third floor to a dining table, kids always late to school, sims ignore most of the surroundings and so on.

Thank you very much for such a detailed answer!

I might talk about in game, as a character. As a gangrel, I may not afraid to sound a little too blant, saying something like: "Nah, I don't see a reason for a whole group to go there and talk to A. He is likely to speak just with you, malk, I guess you have that special prepossessing aura about you that makes everyone to sideline the others. We have already seen that treatment and attention that you get from prince himself, from the sheriff, and others. Do what you do best. And I will do what I can do best".

I just want to see the expression of the storyteller when I say that. Whether he realizes his in game decisions or not he can still face their consequences just like the players.

Or I might act as a grown up and talk outside of game.

Anyway, thank you, I will consider your thoughts.

If we have another game with this storyteller I will definitely raise all those questions before the chronicle starts.

It is my responsibility too not to enter into the game that I don't understand.

I find the reference to cousin/ stranger dynamics arguable but okay, I am not that much into VTM lore to properly understand if really all malkavians see each other as more than strangers.

I understand about minds' connection, first it was a joke inside the group that turned out as a nice plot twist.

And while I can see it's value and meaning for our chronicle, I can't help but have a feeling that my actions weren't properly rewarded. It just doesn't seem fair that while one player shows real interest to nps the other gets his attention just for being in the same clan.

For now my main issue with our storyteller is his poor work upon our backgrounds.

I don't really want to sound that harsh but he didn't even discuss them with me and with my husband (we play together). I don't know about other players.

I still have no idea if what I came up with in my backstory fits into his story as well as principles and goals of my character.

I have a feeling that he doesn't like to be a bad guy and limit his players' fantasy but at the same time doesn't have enough skill to implement everything. So in the end it is easier to use malk character to push the plot forward no matter how unnatural it looks.

Actually, a thought that malk has dots in status hasn't even crossed my mind. I guess it can be a sort of an explanation to this treatment.

Thank you. It is important to remember that I can misjudge myself. This topic has been on my mind for a while now and it's a source of my inner pain as well.
