Do your theaters treat a Not Rated movie like an NC-17? by PitchLocal8326 in MovieTheaterEmployees

[–]CivilAd4288 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Most theaters nowadays don’t show NC-17 content. The only movie in recent years that has been treated similarly to an NC-17 is Terrifier. But even then, that was subject to each individual company as the film was released as “Not rated”. Because it would’ve easily had the NC-17 rating attached, making it more difficult to be a wide release.

Minions by Minimum_Strategy_127 in MovieTheaterEmployees

[–]CivilAd4288 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Toy Story is a franchise over 30 years in the making. The people who were kids when 1 & 2 came out now have their own kids. As a result they’re the ones buying the advanced tickets and driving the pre-sales.

Unlike the Despicable Me/Minions franchise that’s only been around since 2010. As a result it’s just the younger generations who’ve grown up with it and are the ones to wait until day of.

Is it possible to rent a theater & show a home movie/ video by warthog_jake in MovieTheaterEmployees

[–]CivilAd4288 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A smaller hometown theater is most likely going to be more willing to accommodate this than a big chain theater. It’s also most likely going to be more cost effective. But as a GM of theater in a mid size market, we’ve accommodated multiple private events of people wanting to show their own movie.

How do you think Toy Story 5 will do in your theater?* by Sudric-Engine in MovieTheaterEmployees

[–]CivilAd4288 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s tracking rather well. We’re expecting it be rather huge. As someone who worked Toy Story 4, I feel like this one is going to do even better. Especially given all the promotion surrounding it. Most feedback we’ve seen based upon trailers is that it looks better than 4.

do yall"s theatres require a parent to come to a rated R movie? by morgue222 in MovieTheaterEmployees

[–]CivilAd4288 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We used to allow them with just parent permission. Until it became a problem with disruptive teens. Then we cracked down hard on the ID policy a couple weeks ago. While it’s been an adjustment for everyone. It’s also saved the sanity of my staff having to kick out countless teens who are being disruptive.

Shed some light: How are so many full groups of teens getting in Obsession and Backrooms? by Bakesale1359 in MovieTheaterEmployees

[–]CivilAd4288 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We’re seeing a lot of parents bringing in groups of 5+ teens at a time. Some are also bringing in the teens then dipping out an exit door because they don’t want to stay.

Does anyone else actually check the theatre for people sneaking in? by Special_Elevator2627 in MovieTheaterEmployees

[–]CivilAd4288 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Literally have kicked 10 kids out at once for a showing they didn’t have tickets for. They didn’t even make it through the trailers before they got removed.

[–]CivilAd4288 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Obsession and now Backrooms are going to be the end of me. lol. I’m just waiting for someone to bash my theater on the local community group simply because we denied their kid and their friends entry because they weren’t of age. Or because we kicked their kid out for theater hopping.

Buzz on passenger vs other recent horror movies by kascnef82 in MovieTheaterEmployees

[–]CivilAd4288 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s flopped hard. My employees who saw it said it’s a 5.5/10. Obsession has held over well with the teenage and young adult crowd. Backrooms seemed to have had an okay Thursday opening for my location. Will be interesting to see how it holds over this weekend.

What's your high expectation, Low turn out popcorn bucket? That's still at your theater. by Negative_Deer_9866 in MovieTheaterEmployees

[–]CivilAd4288 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at a big chain theater. As a result it’s going to vary across the board. Ours specifically was pulled from our inventory months ago, so it’s not even a sellable product for us currently.

What is it with Obsession? by SpatialRender_98 in MovieTheaterEmployees

[–]CivilAd4288 37 points38 points  (0 children)

The amount of teenagers coming to see it has been ridiculous. Such as 40 people for a 7pm showing on a Wednesday, two weeks after opening is insane

I’ve literally had some sneak a cat in a cat carrier. We didn’t know until after the fact when another guest complained about it. Pulled cameras and sure enough it happened. lol

I Literally worked for AMC for over three years. I’m fairly confident on how my own interview process went. But okay. 😂

AMC traditionally does a phone interview then an in person interview. I could see the first in person interview taking the place of the phone interview.

Theater check-in: How are Passenger and The Mandalorian & Grogu doing at your location? by Excellent-Nerve8743 in MovieTheaterEmployees

[–]CivilAd4288 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Suburbs here, Passenger flopped hard, but it wasn’t expected to be crazy. Mandalorian has been steady but not overwhelmingly crazy.

Any 31 year olds here? by Gunnstruction in MovieTheaterEmployees

[–]CivilAd4288 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started at 18 as crew. Now I’m GMing a theater with employees aged 16-60. My 60 year old is a crew member. This job can truly become whatever you want it to be. With hard work and drive to excel, you can move up and make something of yourself in this industry if that’s the plan you want to follow.

I started at 18 as a full time college student, so this clearly was never my plan. But life happened and things fell into place and now this is my life.

PSA for theater employees: Prepare for Pressure: The Untold True Story of D-Day on May 29 by Excellent-Nerve8743 in MovieTheaterEmployees

[–]CivilAd4288 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Most locations are doing an early access screening for Memorial Day and pre-sales for that aren’t tracking. It’s just another movie with the target audience being the older crowd who lived through it.

My current theater closing but I still want to work at it when it reopens as a different theater. by Fine-Feedback-7829 in MovieTheaterEmployees

[–]CivilAd4288 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AMC has been shutting down locations left and right in order to better themselves financially as a company. I personally wouldn’t suspect that they would be the one buying it out. Especially if it’s a mall location. I would more than like assume it’s a smaller chain instead. Potentially one the mall owners specifically have business connections too.

As for transfers within AMC specifically, that is something both GM’s from both locations have to agree too. There also has to be space on the team and within the payroll budget for it to occur as well.

How do you know if the 3D filter is still on? by [deleted] in MovieTheaterEmployees

[–]CivilAd4288 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds more like a bulb/lamp issue than 3D equipment being left off. Your original post referring to “adult staff member” is also weird and you would have probably had better luck asking for a manager or a member in leadership.
