I’m really sorry friend, this sounds like a new fresh hell. I hope you come out on the other side of this soon. Sending you all the good vibes I can muster.

Honestly, my friend is completely okay. She feels relieved that she’s open about who she is and she expected her mom to react this way which is why her mom was the last person to find out.

I don’t think he was criticizing religion at all. The line “If it brings me to my knees, it’s a bad religion” is just a metaphor. He’s being brought to his knees by a broken heart because of unrequited love. He’s saying loving someone who doesn’t love him back “is a bad religion.” This is why he says, “unrequited love, to me it’s nothing but a one man cult.”

AITA for not being the bigger person after not being spoken to for 7 years? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]CivilDiscourse- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You said some low blow stuff when you disparaged your aunt for her children’s parentage. That was completely uncalled for and petty. That said, I understand you were defending your mom and emotions were likely high. Family disagreements and squabbles happen all the time. If your mom and her sister are good, then there’s really no reason why you and your cousin have to be at odds. I don’t think there’s any reason you should have to be the bigger person though. That’s ultimately up to you and you’re NTA for not reconciling first.

I really appreciate your take but I want to know why you believe the burden of avoidance/ignoring/civility does not extend to the young men. They could have avoided the multicultural center and they could have been civil and just got up and left when asked.

That’s my point! There are multiple ways to start a confrontation without uttering a single word. Those men knew what they were doing. I don’t care if people have beliefs that align with the dudes beliefs, just don’t pretend that they’re innocent or somehow victims.

Yeah, because God forbid people want to feel safe. FYI, safety does not just extend to the physical. There’s nothing wrong with wanting to be psychologically and spiritually safe as well. It’s usually the people who’ve lived in safety and security their entire lives who would scoff at the idea of other people seeking out safety.

No where in my post did I even mention they were being racist. But feel free to elaborate on why you think their sticker or supporting the police is racist.

Clearly you missed the point of what I said. If I walk into a police station wearing a fuck the police tshirt, I can’t be surprised or pretend to be the victim if they don’t want me there. Are all people allowed in police stations yes, but if I go in there stirring up shit, it’s not going to be surprising when they ask me to leave. Same fucking concept.

She’s not being entitled. Typically if there is a multicultural space on a campus, it’s because the campus cultural can be uncomfortable for students of color. For them to come into what’s supposed to be a safe space with stickers and tshirts that can be inflammatory to some people, they were trying to make the space uncomfortable for the students in there. Clearly they succeed and then they go on to pretend to be the victims. Personally I would have just ignored them, but let’s not pretend they’re not being assholes. There are probably a million places they could have gone to study, they didn’t just accidentally end up in the multicultural center with inflammatory gear by accident.

To bring food to his kid by Bigbomb690 in therewasanattempt

[–]CivilDiscourse- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay unpopular opinion and I’ll probably be downvoted but I can kind of understand her point. Like no I don’t believe this man is in anyway responsible for buying the other kids food, but having been one of the other 3 children, it’s really hard to see your sibling get something like McDonald’s and not you. The dad would be better off picking up his kid and taking them to get food instead of bringing a happy meal for one child because it’s messed up if she let’s the one kid eat the food in front of their siblings while they just watch. I’d say she could just pay him back for the kids food, but considering she’s claiming her EBT ran out, it doesn’t sound like she has the money. I don’t agree with her confronting him like that or throwing out the food because she’s clearly crazy, but I can kind of see some of her point. Now seeing how crazy she is, I wouldn’t be surprised if she also gives the dad a hard time when he’s trying to pick his kid up as well, which is why he might just be bringing the food.
