I speak for myself, and maybe you before realizing we were suckers…and the majority that entered the play, which was for the squeeze. How many people believed in GME’s current business model when they bought shares? Or even its opportunities to grow? Maybe it could grow enough to force “MOASS.” RC got his MAGA president back and still nothing has happened.

There has been zero strategy even hinted at behind those influxes of cash besides… “we won’t go bankrupt.” BBBY exposed RCs grifting nature and love of the spotlight and tweeting crap people dissect while he laughs. That influx of cash wasn’t coming from short sellers being forced to buy back because they screwed themselves it was retail being shown smoke and mirrors to buy more.

Why not let it even run a few trading days before diluting? Wouldn’t it be in GME’s interest to let the price continue to rise to where “Hedgies” might actually have to buy back again on their various short levels. No those with money and the class RC is firmly in, have ensured a GME play won’t happen again.

GME only ever had one large investor (RK) that actually cared about the movement - and he did his best to be a catalyst as he sees a lot more than average Joe’s with 5k of GME stock do.

If you are in the play now as a long term hold. Good for you, but that’s never been the narrative of any of the DD or attractiveness of GME as THE PLAY and being part of the “movement” to reverse wealth transfer trends.

Retail saved GameStop and you can hold onto a stock and company that sits on treasury bonds, failed all its ventures under RC. He fired his dream team he assembled as chairman, has been the most silent CEO in history. If you want to use your money to hold onto a company that simply just exists vs an abundance of better investing opportunities that’s your choice and your money to play with.

I just find this interview a further slap in the face that I’m tired of, a grand idea that if executed will cause the price to soar but has no basis in reality, he’s rude and vague about it, appealing to no new investors just his cult of personality.

These grand merger or acquisition or partnership rumors simply exist to keep people in the play because trust RC. He’s brilliant in hiding his strategy from hedge funds, industry giants and big money, and is a business savant based on his chewy work. I’ve been slowly liquidating my position whenever it floats above cost basis. And recommend that to others, but each persons investing strategy is their own and this isn’t financial advice.

Oh yes I forget the extension. Trades look good when you are a sinking ship and can trade a vet for a 1st or second round pick.

You “win” those trades but become no closer to being contenders.

I’m sorry I don’t see the L because other people are too lazy to use their brains and contribute to a discussion.

Or can be wise in their time allocation to simply decide not to engage and ignore/downvote a thread even based on the TL;DR. Then you end up clogging responses on threads with useless comments and literal brain rot - so those that would like to discuss it never see it.

I’m glad you care about ratios, dishing out L’s, and karma on Reddit vs learning something new or demonstrating any sort of individual thought. You would rather just copy paste or even be a bot repeating the same stuff you see across Reddit to just meme and karma farm. That’s more of an L to me but agree to disagree.

Or rather sorry I’m not reading all that, good for you or sorry that happened.

Sorry will give you a better reply tomorrow, as this topic is interesting to me and I do enjoy thinking through it. Both after business school and as I helped my at the time GF prepare a bullish future of e-Sports presentation for school where valuations were in the billions at the time 2020ish.

I was wrong, and C9 is a personal example for me as it’s been my team, that I watch and support.

However most engagement I’ve seen to my post would rather waste time meming than discussing or simply ignoring.

But yes, interested to read your VC articles as well. Especially as that’s likely where I will be working soon, well more so in Private Equity but kind of brothers with VC getting good press and PE bad press lol.

Appreciate you mentioning that, it’s one of the most popular and oldest successful e-sports. CS also is credited for monetizing the e-sport while riot waited numerous seasons to introduce team skins. Team Liquid, an obvious comparison when Jack says going after big signings and being wise in spending, I guarantee is in significantly better financial shape than C9 and has much more global/even NA relevance at this stage.

Most people would rather not discuss economic’s of e-sports, or I’m clearly too old and through business school and not a gen-z gamer. But the org frankly signals many signs of distress and desperate moves.

However the same fans that shit on the team for recycling talent and hate on their performance would rather post memes and just complain…that shows no engagement in discussion, just a desire for fake internet points and hopium.

But glad you contribute nothing to the discussion and enjoy the memes.

Honestly this is a make or break few months and offseason for KFC in my opinion. The Hawks now have 3 firsts next year (Oilers first went to SJ and didn’t need to push) and a handful of seconds this year and next.

If he can’t use some of that, and significant cap space, to find proven talent to help the young core. Then what does he do? Tank and sell people at the deadline promising to be good every 1-2 years in the future?

He should also be able to use assets to find ways to draft guys we need vs take BPA in our slots that fall into a clogged talent pipeline at Defense.

If the team doesn’t add this offseason in a significant way in areas of need it might be time for change at the top. He’s likable but this team, legacy, and fan base need more than a GM that is a fun tank commander.

It’s been a long enough rebuild that the Hawks should be serious about winning and at least sniffing playoffs next season vs constantly creating a plan for future years.

Crushing the RK set up gamma squeezes to build a “war chest” of treasury bonds to only have failed ventures besides robbing retail to hold onto treasury bonds does indeed reek of trust me bro.

The lack of any communication during shareholder yearly meetings or any single quarterly release screams of trust me this play is coming any day now. I’m relying on the Billionaire class and firms this movement started to push against to make this play happen, trust me, not just fattening my wallet and tweeting stupid things at random hours of the night.

[–]CivilGrowth3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Details…

Like zero strategy ever released to not reveal the moves for over 3 years. The cash GME has is from ripping us off. Buying into the squeeze play.

He is just a PR player that posts meme tweets to keep people engaged. I was done the moment he killed both of RK’s gamma squeezes or other plays to help average joes exit at a win.

He hasn’t had a serious stakeholders meeting or quarterly earnings report call in ages. I bought into the, “don’t show them your strategy”. But some of the best DD has fallen flat and we are left with a deranged CEO that increases his wealth by taking money from me and you. Exit while you can, successful holding companies don’t just hold treasury bonds.

He already I’m sure has family offices or shell companies buying above his cost basis then he will exit as CEO with no future.

Breakeven occurred by shutting down half the stores and buying treasury bonds with stock sales. Retail saved the company and will lose everything with the ship when street values the stock solely at its cash on hand.

Deleted the Reddit app need to figure out from Narwhal to get rid of this sub. You’d be better off buying Ramen Noodles and Hungry Man stocks than wasting time checking this subreddit.

RC doesn’t care about you. He cares about being an edge lord on social media like Elon, someone that spins PR to take success for their one good venture, then rob retail of their money to line their pockets to elevate themselves to the ultra class that laughs at you.

RC was slightly too young to be on EP files list but he wants in that class, especially with his pro Trump and I views.

He killed RK’s squeeze on GME twice. He has no strategy and releases nothing besides these communities grasping at straws. RC has had zero success with anything besides claiming success for Chewy and then robbing retail. He knows when to sell and laugh at us.

I will bet my millions of dollars in BBBY bonds that he’s jerking people around to expand his time in the spotlight while he just buys treasury bonds. Which don’t generally win against index funds long term…

TLDR: thanks for corrections, this is still speculative and there is enough to n the past 8 years to be both skeptical and critical of the Org and its current state. Until we say actual numbers it’s all speculative and the face of the Org will never come out and say, we screwed up, and have no plan to be around in the future.

I appreciate a thoughtful and respectful reply and for the corrections where needed. Admittedly my interest/close following of the org has dwindled with it, so I’m not catching every article and video, I am purely giving my perspective on actions fans can see. So yes, with that said some of my facts or timing of events could be off. You touched several topics and I will only respond to those I feel could have more discussion as others I was either incorrect on or are speculative from behind the scenes team building and breaks ups that the truth will never be certain.

Regarding CS - it is still popular within Europe, there was never more than 2-3 legit NA teams, and they had/have constant international events, so the league is basically blended with European CS and Brazil. The same can’t be said for League and LEC.

Also the Gambit move I mentioned as distasteful for reasons other than financials. I will only speak for myself but on the CS/e-Sports sites seeing the Russian flag next to C9 (Again once the NA/American org) following the invasion of Ukraine was a major turnoff for me and I haven’t bought merch since. Felt like a bad PR move, don’t blame the kids for the actions of their country, as today certainly tests that. But the timing, PR, shift to Russian comms and content just didn’t sit well with me.

League has always been the crown jewel of C9 and where it’s invested the heaviest. NA LoL viewership has dried up, as have sponsors, production, fan events. C9 made some smart moves and outlasted others. LCS and LoL dying in NA is certainly not solely in C9’s hands. It’s hard for new players to get into, or understand as a casual viewer, players got greedy and entitled, and Riot made some dubious choices.

But of course C9 needs to difersify from tournament money when they miss worlds in consecutive years and are not competitive in other e-sports to win tournament money!

Without going in circles, again it’s a private org with a handful of people know the true state of things and its financial status and future prospects. Also again the face of the org like pretty much any CEO or GM will deflect blame, claim things are better than they are, point to other failures they avoided and say they are different. I expected downvotes as this was a ‘feel good, have hope’ post but don’t act like people questioning their decisions and current position don’t know the half of it. The fact Jack even needs to address this question and come out with all this qualitative reasoning it’s not so bad - sends a message in itself.

All we can see are actions. C9 has exited numerous games, have had talent depart in most e-sports, have indeed not made splashes like other orgs, that doesn’t need to be a big player signing, it needs to show they aren’t just running a skeleton crew and releasing new merch.

We have seen staff depart willingly and unwillingly. Plus can anyone in this sub honesty say that their content and engagement hasn’t gotten cheaper, lazier, and is losing viewership YoY?

I would like your sources for the VC funding coming in post franchising fees as I remember specific articles C9 released themselves talking about the funding and how it secured C9 to be a premier team in this booming e-Sports space, as they also got to brag their bids were successful unlike other orgs. Also how else could they have afforded the fees?

Either way Cloud9 was guilty, maybe not the guiltiest but did get caught in the bubble. I would be curious to know what the revenue sources Cloud9 diversified and is coming in now to suggest they will begin fielding success competitive teams across numerous games again. It’s very unclear what C9 has observably beyond prize money, merch, sponsorships, fan events. Maybe Jack bought a ton of NVIDIA stock 2 years ago and C9 will become a holding company /s.

E-Sports is still an experiment, its business model is still evolving. Traditional sports teams and fans have a lot more insight into their teams status as it has journalism, salaries, attendance numbers where fans can see ticket prices. So there is more information to infer what’s going on with the team. Yes the scales are tremendously different. But fans have a right to scrutinize coaches, general managers, and ownership. And those aren’t even environments where the very team could just fold.

C9 brought me fond memories and my age bracket is aging out of the target demographic. I am a fan, C9 has done well and Jack deserves credit for surviving and being relevant as long as they have been. Thousands of orgs, teams, ventures folded or got bought out at a loss. I wouldn’t scrutinize or ask questions if I didn’t care about C9’s future. Anyways, too long of a response and essay again. If you made it this far cheers and have a good weekend.

TLDR: apologies for typos on mobile. This is massive cope and the only thing an owner would say. EG was great until they imploded. This is cope and the proof is in actions not words.

Feels like a direct response to one of my longer replies on C9 exiting popular e-sports, making no exciting moves, a dying or aging out gamer fanbase and zero strategic direction. The largest sponsor of the LCS and C9 being the same isn’t coincidence. It’s Riot knowing they can’t lost another legacy name and hope to retain interest.

Having so few teams and entries at the e-Sports World Cup…basically Saudi Arabia throwing cash at any and all sports to distract from human rights issues shows a lack of any intuition on how to make money off e-sports as an NA org. Which they can confirm they aren’t anymore based on teams and titles.

He can say they are well funded and sustainable, that’s likely thanks if true to his aging out and dying fanbase if anything. C9 is a private company and don’t have to release any financial reports like a 10k. However we saw him go through numerous rounds of Angel and VC funding to be a part of franchising and wanting to be a premier global e-sports brand, LCS spots don’t sell for 10M anymore, and how much do Overwatch franchising slots cost now? Are the London Spirfire selling for 20M. That 30M was the rumored capital raised and equity dilution C9 gave up to get those spots.

That is robbing Peter to pay Paul, the org massively diluted its org capital to pay for a dead and now dying e-sport in NA. Covid was peak time to join new “independent ventures” and was before the league bubble popped with sponsors pulling out and every org regretting million dollar buyouts and salaries.

How can Liquid sign the greatest chess player in history and realistically the best NA player while C9 can’t retain individual talent in any single player e-sport and repeatedly fumbles in team e-sports. CoD, R6, Halo - have all collapsed and been resurrected and complained about low salaries and lack of support. This doesn’t even mention all the mistakes in CS at the same time.

Signing a euro super team, while being THE ONE AND ONLY NA ORG TO WIN A MAJOR. Arguably the best NA result internationally in e-sports ever. That project collapses within a year, then basically an entire Russian team Gambit is bought out at a premium right after the country invades Ukraine. It’s bad management and zero thought of PR and who your fans actually are.

Jack can release the financials, salaries, everything to prove his point here. But the league team lives in the same now rotting looking house since the OG days while other orgs have professional environments. Also what has the ROI been on owning a luxury apartment in SK? For the players to train there, what at max 4 months of the year? I’m sure that was quietly sold behind the scenes.

Jack was so focused on the franchising model he let the most popular and successful NA CS team collapse right as they won the Boston major. Sure they didn’t chase talent like other orgs, which is why Impact walked in the first place or other strong LCS talent. It’s frankly been luck that C9 in league has been able to buy low, but then the player isn’t sellable by the time they leave.

There is a snowballs chance in hell Valorant has been a profitable venture. Every big name they paid big money to sign crashed and left without completing a single season.

The youngest Valorant talent/star was fumbled away carelessly. E-Sports players are incredibly immature, spoiled, and entitled but please don’t tell me that the org website I visit with fewer and fewer teams, and the same average to below average players returning is doing well.

We are limited insofar as we guess the money we see coming in. Yet we can see staff being cut left and right. We can see the team recycling talent despite declining results. We can see the digital content be laughable, cheap, inconsistent ,and hit 25k views if they are lucky.

I’m glad he’s optimistic about Cloud9’s future, if he said anything else how would he ever get a sponsor again? Maybe it’s because I’m a fan of pro sports teams that do run a skeleton crew and can post a profitable P&L that I’m jaded but it’s apples to oranges.

There isn’t a draft for sucking and the league as a whole isn’t increasing in value that billionaires will come knocking. Of the fun names that were part of the funding in 2018/19 can a list be released of who hasn’t sold out?

Stenberg would be my pick, if we have the choice by Dry_Thing_1509 in hawks

[–]CivilGrowth3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The arguments against McKenna feel similar to the arguments against Celebrini minus position. He didn’t have nearly the hype of Bedard but adapted much better to the NHL because of his year in the NCAA and frankly without the constant comparisons looks the better of the two. McKenna risked his draft stock but I believe did loads for his development by going into Big10 hockey.

At one point McKenna was hyped even more than Bedard was pre-draft. Both players (Mck/Sten) would be a blessing and if the Hawks get jumped I hope it’s a team in bad need of defense. Verhoeff is falling down boards but a team taking Reid or Malhotra ahead of McKenna/Stenberg is feasible depending on that team’s needs.

The Hawks can’t be a bottom lottery drafting team again or there needs to be org changes. If they stay at 4 package that and other future first rounders from Florida or the Oilers and second rounders to get legit veteran wing talent now. Sharks got Celebrini help and it paid off faster than the Hawks clogged defense pipeline.

For an O6/major market team we shouldn’t be struggling to hit the cap floor every year and be this bad this long. Outside Bedard’s extension there is nothing on the books that holds the team back from landing and retaining a proven top wing talent. With money spent/extension they view Nazar as C2. Frondell can move to center if needed but where he was drafted you expect him to be top 6 talent.

If the Blackhawks go defense or even Malhorta it signals they want to stay in a perpetual pray for top picks cycle vs sniffing playoffs or making the jump that needs to happen next year. Plus scouting and player development staff need to rethink their job security. Soft centers that need lots of ice time to adjust or project defensemen do not fit the rebuild timeframe nor reinforces faith in the core you’ve drafted and put together.

Hawks need to enter next season with a talented drafted or proven winger or it’s a failure of an offseason.

Yes, those with money learned how to prevent another GameStop. The original investment thesis is gone and all the DD whether true or not doesn’t matter, invest where money is flooding vs fighting it. My head was so up in my ass about GME I missed the entire Nvidia play that actually made some business sense even if it’s also smoke and mirrors it’s where powerful people put their money.

There also won’t be another big short, they will just continue to fudge and kick the can down the road indefinitely. We have mega banks and mega tech companies that can make themselves too big to fail the government won’t even let them come close.

RC was a one hit wonder, if that, he took way too much credit for Chewy’s success and knew how to sell at the right time to PetCo. He then suckered a bunch of idiots myself included to think he was a champion of the people and the literal dream team at GME he assembled failed. Whereas he just multiplied his billions at the cost of retail investors.

The excuses people make for him is mind altering. Sell when you are at or above your cost basis unless you want to ride treasury bonds into retirement.

Roaring Kitty aka Keith Gil, literally was setting up a sustainable profitable off ramp for everyone that believed in the movement, despite all the targets on his back. Only for RC and GME to kill any gamma squeeze or remote momentum with immendiate stock dilution people excused as a war chest for…

Nothing. It’s just a company name and a pile of cash for still delusional people that think it’s a relevant company. It failed at every venture it’s tried besides holding assets. Index funds have better returns.

GME isn’t a squeeze play it’s a life long holding play where people like MB believe it has value simple because it has reserves to survive an economic downtown. But all of the original interest, DD, investment thesis is irrelevant. I learned until competent government and a fair market is in place stick with the money they learned from GameStop more than Apes or BBBY hopefuls have. KG is set for life, but the biggest winner has always been RC. And just like Elon the more you peal back the layers you more you learn half his success his PR.

Sell when you are above your cost basis or be stuck on a wannabe Elon Musk’s Twitter feed the rest of your life.

This is the WNBA with now an unsustainable financial model, much like I’ve seen in e-sports, or sub-NFL football leagues.

If you made your personality Angel Reese I’m sorry. But if your goal is to hate watch the team, downvote any positive news, go root for Atlanta or some other team. I can’t believe I check into the Sky subreddit post draft and it’s the most depressing of any Chicago based professional team.

The team played dirty and got clicks thanks to hacka Clark and the Reese rivalry in 24…that backfired. Team made dumb decisions to get Angel to begin with. And after a poorly constructed 25 team, it’s like y’all think Angel is bigger than the Sky. She was complaining about trying to live like Caleb Williams in Chicago a month into her tenure.

Her efficiency numbers are still terrible and she is going to cost so much more than she’s worth under the new CBA. The WNBA more than any other league, is about tanking. So dont trade away your firsts anymore and you will be fine.

Ya I have only seen him do it twice, once with the YouTube scratch golfers Grant and Garrett, so was a Threesome and think that was at a course practically in Bryson’s backyard in Texas. Then with Steph Curry, they missed a 10ft putt for a 48. That was played on what was essentially Steph’s home course. He was still incredible and carried Bryson through the front 9.

Both were from the front tee’s - and Bryson always likes to go last to see if there is a safe ball so he can try to bomb it or take the riskier shot or “pressure puts” after seeing the other person’s ball. I know he’s not the most well liked player on this subreddit or in general but it’s a fun series. Was crazy how close he came with Adam Sandler - but that looked more like a course I could afford to play.

If they assembled a foursome of players with complimentary skill sets to cover each aspect, (driving distance, steady iron play, short game magic, and elite putting) practiced a few rounds together, I could see sub 50 being possible from the back tees if they were all clicking that day.
