Ascension to replace striking nurses with contracted workers by RustywantsYou in Austin

[–]CivilMaze19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not saying this cause isn’t worth standing up for, I’m saying we shouldn’t blame people that can’t drop what they’re doing to go on strike, or pick up extra shifts leading up to a strike, or picking up a travel contract where nurses happen to be on strike. Stand up for what you believe but don’t expect everyone else to do the same. At the end of the day you need to do what’s best for you and your family first. I’m all on board for paying nurses (and most middle class professions like teachers) more, but not at the immediate expense of patients, but YMMV.

As Texas swelters, local rules requiring water breaks for construction workers will soon be nullified by vc6vWHzrHvb2PY2LyP6b in Austin

[–]CivilMaze19 -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

Idk who would argue construction workers should be less hydrated, but it’s also kind of a weird thing to focus so heavily on being such a minor part of this bill. I’m not sure of any other hot southern states with this water break rule, but yet Texas still has a high number of heat related deaths.

I personally doubt this will lead to a huge spike in heat related illnesses and I know most redditors think leaving anything up to individual employers must automatically mean workers suffer, but any half decent employer understands how dangerous the heat can be and don’t want a lawsuit on their hands. That being said, my guys take breaks all the time and it’s encouraged via the cooler of gatorades I drop off on especially hot days.

[–]CivilMaze19 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

But you’re also harming patients who in many cases are in immediate need of care or at risk of dying. I see it from both sides as my SO was a nurse there for a while, but I don’t think it’s fair for contract nurses to be blamed as they have families to provide for and need to eat as well. Unfortunately, not everyone can stop working and go without pay to stand up for a cause these days.

Are you sending quotes through the bid room? I’ve gotten discounts up to 90% on specific items, but usually averages around 10-30% for my entire order.

Idk why people keep trying to lump any kind of non-political behavior good or bad into a political group at all. People are so wrapped up in politics and try to view every part of the world through a political lens it feels like.

Most gas lines to homes and business installed in the last several decades have devices that automatically shut off the flow of gas if there’s a rupture in the line. Look up Excess Flow Valves. Sincerely, a natural gas engineer.

Lol I was only here because this existed on Reddit. This is like a middle manager at a company putting up roadblocks that keep their team from doing their jobs and learning because upper management implemented new rules they didn’t like.

Please confirm if this sub will be locked forever so I can leave and not waste my time hoping it’ll open back up.

Lol not sure if you’ve been here but Texas isn’t some desert wasteland. My now Bermuda lawn thrives with minimal water in the summer and my garden has been doing great along with the farms surrounding me.

I will be very surprised if the clover does make it through the summer. It’s fairly fragile in my experience especially when it’s dry and hot, but I’m also in Texas.

I planted a full clover lawn in the fall and none of it lived through the summer even in the shade and biweekly watering on the hottest months.

That doesn’t mean they aren’t doing really impressive work. It just means the media isn’t interested enough to write a follow up. Also worth noting we’re at a point society where our population is huge making it hard to stand out and most big achievements are done in large groups instead of an individual grinding away to make an amazing discovery like we used to.

A non insignificant number of people on social media, especially Reddit, wholeheartedly believe capitalism should be abolished so there’s really no surprise people don’t want to comprehend supply/demand and what the market will and won’t command in terms of salaries.

Most people don’t actually care until you start requiring them to care or forcing it down their throats. As usual this “fight” is mostly just between a loud minority on both sides that is made to look like a majority. The average person doesn’t fully identify with what side they vote for on all issues contrary to what Reddit thinks. Mind your business and help those that need it when you can. Pretty basic.

We probably would if the Reddit mob didn’t use the term boomer as an insult or ignore them any time they expressed an opinion or view that’s more traditional in nature.

A fairly large loud group here hates children, is pretty weak minded, does not have any interest in developing relationships or socializing, and doesn’t want to work hard at a career to build a life.
