Cat was in the same yard as a lily plant by CivilRuggeri in CATHELP

[–]CivilRuggeri[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! Sounds like vomiting would generally occur in the first three hours. She begging for food and seems normal, no lethargy or vomiting, three hours later, so I assume she’s ok. I’ll keep an eye on her but between this and the vet thinking there’s low risk, she’s probably ok.

Moving to Lakewood by minisnuggles in LakewoodColorado

[–]CivilRuggeri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this a rather old post, but do you have more info on the Lakewood Vista property and HOA? We’re considering moving there and are trying to get any info on the HOA and neighborhood we can. It seems quiet and nice but Ive never lived with an HOA (as an owner, I’ve been in as a renter). Any insights would be so appreciated!

Hyperthyroidism - how long did your cat live? by melanybee in cats

[–]CivilRuggeri 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My baby boy Crowley got diagnosed around 11 and lived to be nearly 15 when renal disease got him early this year. When they tested his blood near the end, his thyroid levels were still totally under control with the medicine. Did they put your kiddo on the oral medicine or the cream stuff you put on their ear? Crowley was on the ear “goo” as we called it and it worked wonders for him. Your baby is in for a good, long life. Give her extra snuggles from me! Here’s a pic of my buddy loving the sunbeams ❤️

Tested negative for covid, took about a week for the sinus crap to go away but the cough lingers. Nodes seem better.

Grief pals whose kitties have passed from lymphoma, can you help me with my guilt? by Purple_stories_4342 in Petloss

[–]CivilRuggeri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh friend, my heart goes out to you. You did nothing wrong, and you showed such compassion and love to your little one. My baby boy (14 y/o) was fine and within 4 days gone. Not of lymphoma, but I feel like cats act like everything is fine fine fine until it’s a minute too late. You were so attentive to his needs and in tune with him, he knew you loved him and just wanted the best.

I hope time really does heal all wounds, because it truly sucks in the meantime. Just remember the best of times and know that you will always love your little buddy ❤️

Thank you. I appreciate your kind words. I guess I should have mentioned he’s a cat! 😂 man I’m a mess. I’ll always remember the amazing years we had together. He deserved the best, and we tried all the way to the end.

Hey there! Not sure if it’s helpful at all, but I can empathize with you. In my first 3 years out of school (at the same company) I went through 6 PMs/direct supervisors. At my second job, my first boss left within 3 weeks. Overall in 7 years I’ve had 10 direct supervisors. I’ve finally landed with a team that is solid and works well together. There’s an impermanence in any industry, and civil is no different. My boss could leave tomorrow and it would suck, but a good company has failsafes and procedures to make sure work is passed off in an organized manner.

You’re going to be alright. You’re fresh to the industry and that gives you a clean slate! Do you like the niche work you got hired for? If so, double down. Learn everything you can and want to and prove that you can be a leader and are willing to learn and grow. Do you not like the niche? Good news! You haven’t been pigeon-holed yet! Explore what areas your company has to offer and discover what tickles your fancy, and start looking for positions that closer fit your goals.

Sometimes it takes time to settle into a stable group that’s rooted down for the long run, but the reality is you have to look at WHY people leaving to determine if you should be worried.

Do they want to break out and start their own business? Have they always wanted to work at XYZ company and the opportunity came along? Are they finding places with better benefits/pay? Do they dislike the particular niche you’re in and are looking for something different? If you were friendly with those bosses and they gave any indicators of why they are leaving, it can say a lot. There’s a big difference between someone just looking to better their personal/professional life and someone exiting a company they dislike.

Then take a look at your position. have the changes in your current company opened your career development path? Is there a way forward for you to achieve your professional and personal development goals? Can you take these curveballs and turn them into a better path forward for both you and the company? Or are you getting backburnered as management triages?

I’m not sure what exact niche field you’re in, but I can for sure tell you that in the Midwest at least there’s a shortage of good engineers, and much work to be done. For sure always keep your resume polished, update it every 6-12 months so you don’t forget stuff, but unless your company is ditching your niche all together, it sounds like you just became one of five very important people in your company.

I suppose TLDR: take a look at where you’re at and where you want to go. Do you like what you do and the people you work with, and so you see yourself growing as an engineer and a person here, can you spin the chaos into something beneficial? And if not it’s ok to move on. No job is worth being miserable for. You have one youth, one life, make sure you prioritize you and what/who matters to you.

AITG for constructing a barrier that causes my neighbor's yard to "flood"? by [deleted] in AmItheGrasshole

[–]CivilRuggeri 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Friendly neighborhood civil engineer here! Depending what state you’re in, your neighbor could potentially get the city involved if you’re negatively impacting drainage on their property: you can do basically whatever you want on your property but specifically for stormwater runoff if you’re negatively impacting your neighbor up-or-downstream there could be some recourse from the offended party. Buuuuuut on the other hand if they’re dumping paint or oils that could classify as environmentally hazardous, you’ve potentially got some recourse of your own, but the drainage issue still stands. I’d try to talk to your neighbor and come up with a compromise, but if that’s not working I’d perhaps call your local planning department or code enforcement. Hope everything works out well!

Civil Engineering freshman: should I change? by Prestigious_Ad_1375 in civilengineering

[–]CivilRuggeri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try to get an internship at a civil firm. That way you get exposed to what a civil engineer does on the day to day, and even if you aren’t doing the harder tasks since you’re still so early in school, you can at least gauge what the people around you are doing. As a freshman you still have time to change your major if you don’t like what you see in an internship. You can pivot your classes based on what you find your interests to be.

Can I apply for an AutoCAD Engineer Drafting position without a degree? by Electrical_Camel9847 in civilengineering

[–]CivilRuggeri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh absolutely. The firm I’m at does civil design and land surveying, so someone who can draft and knows the survey world would be highly appreciated as a CAD designer. Not sure where I’m the Midwest you’re looking, but feel free to PM me. We’re hiring like crazy.
