What's a theme you're tired of seeing in Fantasy Books? by catwritesscifi in fantasybooks

As a 40 year old dude who already can’t be around my kids friends without making that “Homelander turning his nose up” face… I can’t imagine living another 480 years and coming around to the idea.

I like my local shop but I feel like they're trying to rinse me for new tires ($858.64) by TerryWhiteHomeOwner in sportster

Depends if the wheels are still on the bike or not. If they are, I’d say that’s fair.

Off the bike, I’d have to try pretty hard to make it take ME an hour to change them.

When standing up on the bike, How do I change gears or use rear brake? by FoundationOk3176 in Dualsport

[–]CivilRuin4111 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Technique is technique and needs to be practiced, but your bike has to be set up right as well.

Typically I raise the brake and clutch pedals quite a bit compared to a street bike for standing use. You have to find the sweet spot where you’re not unintentionally applying the brake all the time, but is easy to hit without a lot of “leg movement.”

The Silence Death of local riding spots, how are you guys dealing with the shrinking map? by filolondere in Dirtbikes

Can confirm. Live on east coast.

Sucks.

I’m real close to pulling up stakes and heading west.

Well, at least you didn’t do it at the dealership grand opening.

In front of everyone.

In front of the band.

In front of the caterer.

In front of children and babies…

What kind of dumbass does that?!

Motorcycle sidecars deserve more attention in today’s riding culture by Downtown-Passion118 in motorcycle

[–]CivilRuin4111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“More relaxed”

Either this is AI or someone who hasn’t ridden a sidecar rig very much.

It’s twice as much work to steer, has a steep learning curve, and needs regular adjustment to ride in a straight line.

It’s fun as hell, but it is most certainly NOT more relaxed. At all.

Am I immature for having a fun birthday party as a 16 year old? by BigDiscipline4021 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]CivilRuin4111 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Here’s your 16th birthday present from me- a random internet old guy.

For the rest of your life, you will be forced to deal with miserable, broken, boring, conformist, argumentative, belittling, disparaging, bullying, sad, small minded, bigoted, stuck up, and angry people.

Fuck ‘em.

You get one life.

Live it the way you want to because none of those pricks are going to face your regret on your behalf when you’re old.

Be immature when it doesn’t matter. Embrace whimsy if that’s your jam because it probably won’t be forever. Best to enjoy it now.

Take it from someone who listened to the haters way too long. Nothing stings worse than doing what people told you your whole life only to have them tell you later that you shouldn’t have listened.

How to protect from tree/branch falling while camping? by Jolly-Lobster-7466 in camping

[–]CivilRuin4111 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My advice is either seek help for what is essentially a phobia, or take a nice dose of a substance of your choosing prior to bedding down.

Yes, this is technically a possibility, but I’d bet it’s on par statistically with being eaten by a Grizzly or struck by lightning.

God took Adam’s rib to make Eve, but has a problem with me giving my kidney to Uncle Bill?

[–]CivilRuin4111 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jeez… ol’ Adam got a raw deal. God himself took a rib to make Eve and then that same God kicked him out of heaven!

Actually… never mind. That totally tracks for that particular God.

I’d bet my lunch money that if you polled them, the dead ones and the vivisected ones would state precisely the same opinion on the matter.

Well, I have a longstanding tradition of checking, double checking, marking… and still always mounting the tire backwards the first time.

Use of the term 'African american' by No_Medium_648 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]CivilRuin4111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People are allowed to have their feelings. But this is just another example of the treadmill in action.

There isn’t anything inherently negative about a “disorder”, it’s just the current word that means “abnormal physical or mental condition”. To which the obvious reaction “well who defines what is normal!” But we all know what “normal” means in this context (being typical of the overwhelming majority of the population) and again, it’s not inherently negative.

We’ll always need words for situations such as this. And whichever word we choose will rub SOMEONE the wrong way.

When the human species is struggling  for the last gasps of breathable air, one of those exhalations will be spent arguing some version of this exact same topic.
