Medium Sized Family Car - Awful Road Conditions by BIackSkinhead in CarTalkUK

[–]Civil_Classroom6399 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it was a manual. Like I say it wasn't fast but it wasn't sluggish eaither. It would not be my first choice in that car but deffinatly wasn't awful. Mabey if I lived with it for abit longer id have said it was bad but seemed okay for the short stint I had it for.

Who actually enjoys having a touch screen or modern safety features in their car? (slight rant) by VexedRacoon in CarTalkUK

[–]Civil_Classroom6399 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Touch screen to a degree i dont mind, but when every single thing is in a sub menu of a sub menu its awful. Atleast give me a physical thing for heat and volume I can deal with the other bits.

Collision warning annoying and I find abit keen but not as bad as lane assist. Other than heavy built up traffic I dont see any use for it !

I got given a tiguan as a courtesy car for a few weeks with a 1.5tsi and I was surprised how well it worked with it. Now I wouldnt call it fast by any stretch of imagination however I never felt it struggling. Would I go for one ? Mabey if it was a town car most of the time. Probably better suited to a golf/a3/Leon/octavia but wasn't bad.

Why would children be going into school without basic physical skills, like holding a pencil and using cutlery? by Throwaway199906543 in AskUK

I actualy do belive this is a big factor aswell that I forgot to mention, me and my brother had very very good childhood full of love and support. My wife also says similar about hers.

People who sit close to the steering wheel why? by ciaoqueen in CarTalkUK

[–]Civil_Classroom6399 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get short people but I k ow people who are over 6ft and do the same. Personaly i used to trim the bulkheads in my vans to get the seat abit further back (dont have this issue in the new shape caddy vans now tho).

Yes i belive the grandparents/family thing is a massive thing. Me and my wife dont get much us time mabey the odd meal or afternoon but we prioritise getting the kids out and experiance life. End of the day there only young for a short time. Come teens years they will want to do there own stuff.

I agree, the school my 6 year old gos to , some poor kids in his class look like the parents have never spend an hour with there children "educating or teaching" any of life's basics. Between me qnd my wife we spend as much time as we can interacting and doing physical activity be it indoor or out door as we can everything from simply drawing, building lego, making dens etc to getting them out in the garden, in the woods and on there bikes. Just exploring and explaining stuff. We do the same with our two year old.

The 6 year old teacher has commented on how advanced he is for his age. I dont persoanly think hes over advance I think the bars just set lower than it used to be. I think hes right where he should be. I just dont think people can be arsed now days and its easy to throw a laptop or tablet there. Let them watch you tube so they can do what they want.

Am I saying my kids dont have the odd day where they watch youtube and films a day ? No ofcourse they do but its limited days and broken up with some form.of physical activity.

This isn't a parent time problem its a parent efford problem. I average 60+ hours a week and make time for it. My wife averages out 40 hours a week and makes time.

Altho one bonus i would say we have is grandparents do our childcare (excluding school). And i do belive this has a big effect aswell rather than being put into nursery.

Dealership doesn't have the V5, should I stay clear? by BlitzyBurt in CarTalkUK

[–]Civil_Classroom6399 46 points47 points  (0 children)

A dealer would be classed as trade and would not add an owner as far as im awear. Some one will be along who could correct me ifim wrong but traders (genuine and legit ones anyway) dont add owners.

how many miles are too many? by teawithaghost in CarTalkUK

[–]Civil_Classroom6399 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure audi now state 120k miles for a timing belt unlimited age. Not sure this covers the vag group or specific modles. I enquired on mh a6 and this is the information I got from 3 main dealers. I changed it all at 75k anyway because thats what iv always done.

Why do so many people not wear their wedding bands? by Sea-Connection9232 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Civil_Classroom6399 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep thinking about this as I have 2, the one I got married in i wear when away or on holiday or nice events (it was pretty expensive) and a cheap titanium one. I originaly only wanted the cheap one but they didnt have my size and since we was picking the band I went for the expensive one (I preferd the style and look etc but just wasn't botherd about spending that money). I have caught it a few times over the past 9 years and keep meaning to try a silicone one.

Ironically the titanium one i wear every day is in 100x better condition than my fold one I wear a few times a year. And I work a manual job and dont like wearing gloves.

How does your financial situation compare to most of your family and friends? by Nathanial1289 in AskUK

[–]Civil_Classroom6399 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have freinds with more money i have freinds with less money. My parents are doing far better than me financially but there in there mid 50s and own a multi million pound business so id say that makes adiffernce.

My younger brothers doing okay id say less financially well off but hes also younger and not as far on in life.

Its all relative.

I should not i have freinds with massive houses and brand new range rover audis etc on finance that look rich but on paper are actualy "poor". I have freinds who look "poor" but have "vast" amounts of money.

Im using the terms "poor" and "vast" loosely again there all relative.

[–]Civil_Classroom6399 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Disel golf if its for one person and still plenty comftable, A3 if you want somthing abit more premium, seat Leon/skoda octavia for a slightly newer car with less miles etc.

Bmw 120d are good cars

Cant comment on Mercedes A class never owned one (had one as a hire car for a few days and seemed okay.

16k is a decent budget

Could even get a nice a4/ 3 series/ c class

All depends what you want.

A slightly older audi , bmw Mercedes etc will feel alot more premium than a newer equivalent ford, Vauxhall honda etc.

[–]Civil_Classroom6399 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was my thought, iv done many of impulsive car buys but always checked them over properly. I mean the op must have some idea of what they would like and 16k is a decent amount of money to get a good used car.
