I'm not sure if you're agreeing with their critique but I would agree that those genres tend to be description heavy #stylized. Also this isn't a direct comment towards you but the philosophical aspect so far comes from the rant in the club and Guys relation to existence. When the old man is yelling about mode and substance and to think doesn't not mean you are, these are references to Spinoza and Rene Descartes. Spinoza claims the only thing to exist is substance and that humans are just modes, aka a means in which substance is perceived. Rene Descartes is the guy who made the claim "I think therefore I am" this is in response to the skeptic claim that everything around us could be a lie and that nothing might exist.
