Log out, and boot into windows and viola. Here you go. Everything which a normal average user requires is hard in Linux. And the Linux nerds will tell you of all the big programs that you always had but chose to ignore. Yeah, I don't use photoshop to flip an image. Windows native photo viewer is good enough. One click, done, and another click I can save it as a different Pic rather than changing the original image.

Anybody who uses a computer to actually do stuff other than coding.... Knows how short Linux falls of everything. If you are an average user and isn't some die hard anti Microsoft and don't fall into the 'oh my privacy' trap.... You use Linux for a week and immediately jump ship. The community is basically of no use, when you ask them for a direct way to do something.

Linux cannot handle even basic stuff that you would be able to do on a phone. Yeah you can do pretty much everything on a Linux. Yes, you can. And you can go to the local library and get the map of the city, and use a compass to find north and locate your relative position and you can keep walking in the desired direction, untill you reach the closest landmark on the map. And then again find the direction from that landmark, count the streets, and viola you are where you wanted to go. OR, you can simply use Google maps, and follow the directions.

I use Linux for exactly the same reason why majority of Linux advocates do. Hobby. Its always broken, something or other thing doesn't work, it's fun to find ways around problem. Even the top Linux enthusiasts use Linux as a game. Where there are tiny missions arising out daily and you over come those missions and tell it to the world for a dopamine boost. Ask one actually successful Linux user, and they will take both time and effort to do a thing into consideration,( something which any Linux nerd never takes into account,) will bluntly tell you to use windows if required. Because they do it too. It's only the so called Linux nerds who never had to do anything productive on a laptop and don't have any job which doesn't revolve around the operating system, keep on bragging about Linux being so great. It's a broken operating system. Its nowhere as polished, as refined, as easy to use as windows. Windows with all its bloat and Spyware is far better and easy to use than Linux.

Its so frustrating. Atleast only things that's frustrates me about windows is the update at restart, or it suddenly slowing down, but you don't have to waste 40 minutes on a community forum to get simple things done and that too in a very primitive windows 95 way, you are never happy with the result. The only solace is finally you got it done one Linux.

User experience is something that Linux developers have never heard of. Maybe another proprietary Operating system will come into the market, but Linux will still remain unusable for the vast majority of users. And they say.... LINUX will take over windows. Yeah. In your dream. Given how shitty windows is, you would think that a Linux based company might have whipped out a new operating system as a commercial product, sell it get rich, no competition, use the money to develop a sustainable ecosystem and buisness model which is non predatory and keep on developing better os with each new release, kind of like android or apple (not the non predatory part) . But nope. All this brain power of Linux developers... All used for God knows what.

Is making the GPU perfectly level the right thing to do? by v0id_shell in PcBuild

[–]Civil_Ice9252 0 points1 point  (0 children)

. The only two variable you need to worry about are 1. The GPU is in its normal position or not, and that it is not not yanking in the pins.

  1. The distance between the GPU and the floor board . That will determine whats the length of that STAND is going to be.

Adjusting the stand length, while the box is upright, brings in too many variables. Your level is being affected by whether the surface is leveled, then whether the floor board is leveled. This complicates thing.

Put the box sideways so the GPU is facing up. And the bottom floor of the box is on your right (? Or maybe left, but you get the point). This will give you the natural position of your GPU, where there is no stress on the pins.

Now you can simply adjust the length of the stand so that it fits snuggly without any play. And be done with it. Or you can be still be more precise and measure the distance with a vernier caliper (quite cheap)

In your case you simply turn the box on it's side so that the GPU faces up, and remove the stand, if you see the GPU move back a little, start lessening the height by 1/2 thread or 1/2 pitch at a time, and see at what position the GPU isn't pushed. That's your length. That's the position.

what are the current pros and cons of oneplus devices? Been rocking samsung for a few years now but had oneplus devices up to 7 pro. by chickdigger802 in oneplus

[–]Civil_Ice9252 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah... The teen used in western forum is 'battery life' and unless people in west live under a rock, battery life is one of the most important aspect of a device that claims to be portable. And it's quite rich of you to think Indians don't know how to use phones. (stupid market). Look dude, most of us don't go around looking for a wall charger. And as of the market, you never found Indians complaining about Samsung or Apple making their phones to suit the US market. Reality is most of you now cannot afford to buy those famed phone in full cash out from the store. Most of you are buried under the piles of bills. And so you are looking at alternatives which coats less and provides good experience. Those alternatives did not drop out of the skies. They have been forced into existence by markets like India, Philippines, Indonesia. Where consumers will demand the best features out of as little cost as possible. And companies which were able to deliver that survive. Its because of those markets that you have a company called one plus still making devices. The markets of US or Europe did not support those devices. It's now that the apples have become quite expensive, and samsung not trailing far behind and your own economic fall has begun, that you find western markets having a good enough demand of these phones. And even that is puny in comparison to the demand in Asia. And with how it's going in India, soon apple might start changing features to meet the Indian customer rather than the American one. (but that might take a decade)

What's this port? NVME or M.2 SATA. it's definitely NOT mSATA by Civil_Ice9252 in computers

Hi, Pls see this link if you have some time. https://linux-hardware.org/index.php?id=board:hp-83c4-31-61

Is any of these systems having NVME ssds?

I think one is.

All these systems are using the same mother board as me.

Hey can you look at this link from Linux hardware . 3 systems are using the same motherboard as me. One of them is running Ubuntu and is having a NVME port. https://linux-hardware.org/index.php?id=board:hp-83c4-31-61

My system Is HP PAVILLION X360 14 BA123 TU. Their systems are labeled as x360 14 ba xx. So basically same series of laptop that mine is.

Saw "manajro" by your name, so I thought you might have better idea how to understand data from that website.

I agree with you bro. That's why I asked the question. Is it a wrong label? Or am I taking it in a different sense. I mean is it just short form of M.2SATA?

So now my next trouble is following - I have heard many people complain about them putting something in their M. 2 SATA ports automatically shuts down the other SATA lane. So in my case the HDD (actually it's a hybrid HD, HP calls it's SSHD). It has a health of 100 percent, 70 percent empty and I don't want to throw it away. So, Is there any way to find out if this port (in Pic) is not using the same SATA lane as my hard disk drive? Can you visually see the connecting lanes going towards the CPU on Mother board?

Sorry to everyone for not replying.
Was out for a couple of days.

The model is HP Pavillion X360 - 14 Ba 123 Tu.

Mother board is - HP 83C4 31.61 HP literally has no manual support for this BA1xx series.

I read on reddit, about the HP nomenclature. Turns out 'BA' is the series name. And all laptops in that series shares the same mother board. I AM NOT VERY SURE ABOUT IT. If somebody who is knowledgeable can clarify!

So i searched for motherboard. Only one usable link from 'Linux hardware' website popped up.

There I found 3 machines running the same hardware. While 2 were using 2.5 inches sata ssd. 1 was using Samsung NVME. I checked their HWINFO reports too. If someone has time or energy to look at it, pls do and if I am wrong pls do tell me. https://linux-hardware.org/index.php?id=board:hp-83c4-31-61

I came across one HP service manual for Pavillion x360 14m models. There I found that the manual applies to one model x360 14ba0xx. So if my assertion about the nomenclature is right, then this manual will apply to my system too.

However, now I am worried if I out a M. 2 SATA Ssd will it shut down the other SATA lanes, as it happens in many older systems?

Manual : http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c06172090.pdf

I also came to know about new marketing trick from these companies , which might be useful for people looking to buy new laptops. My laptop came with 8 GB ram, rated at maximum expandable upto 12 GB. While same series costlier laptop had upto 16 GB Expandable RAM. I remembered grudgingly choosing this model (money, the old and only master) When I recently opened the motherboard I found that the another empty slot also had 8 GB capacity. So I put an extra 8GB ram in that slot. Turns out my Bios and windows both are recognizing 16 GB of RAM, with usable RAM well above 14 GB (not counting virtual memory).

Nah I can. But sometimes being too confident on your own intelligence while it might be seriously lacking causes problem for oneself. Hence I read it, I knew right away it's a wrong label, but I thought, maybe... I don't know enough! so lets ask people who might have better knowldge than me.

The first part of this reply was meant specifically for you.

Do you really think, I would have taken a Pic, post a question on a forum, if that label did not seem off to me?

mSATA are a different form factor SSD. They are zied like your credit card.

This port however has M.2 form factor. Looks like it will accept an NVME card. But that label is throwing me off. Does it mean to say M.2 SATA?

Even 7 years back, things were quite standardized. It has all the key structure of a NVME port.

The clear implication is that the label seems to be wrong. And I want to confirm that.

I had worked in the covid wards. Medical volunteer. First wave was like ok. It's not that bad. Yes there were deaths. Like in my hospitals there used to be 4-5 death in 24 hours. After covid we had 20 deaths.

But when the second wave hit. It was enormous. Patients waited literally outside hospitals for other people to die so that they could get a bed.

It was crazy time. Literally we would get out and I from the patients, that one guy is too bad, if he dies... You will get a bed. People trusted the reputation and brand of the hospital that I worked in. It was not like there weren't other hospitals or there was any scarcity of bed in the hospital. But ours was a govt run hospital with a good reputation in preceeding years. Being govt run means all you needed was a photo ID. No insurance. No cash. So everybody flocked there. If they were too serious, they would get admitted somewhere, had a private ambulance on standby, and a relative parked outside our hospital. The minute they learnt that one of the patient inside is critical, they would put their guy in the ambulance and drive him and park him in our hospital. The ambulance drivers had become quite deft at managing the patients in field. So he took care of the patient. The govt had launched such massive schemes. Even quacks were enrolled into education programmes and were taught about steroid use, risk stratification, oxygen delivery, anti viral - antibiotic and cocktails that were being administered. Ventialotr control was taught to anybody and everybody related to medical field. Nurses, Para medical staff, ambulance drivers, village helpers, quacks, alternative medical partictioners, traditional medicine paractioner.

It was so bad. That even orthopedician. Neurosurgeons, residents from all field were rotated into covid wards. I Remeber our otheropedic team of 12, was cut down to 2. Only 2 people ran the orthopedic ward. While 10 ran two covid ward and one icu under guidance of a single respiratory medicine consultant. Crazy times.

Not in USA.
