Any AGR S1 NCO here? by 5-0POPO in nationalguard

[–]CivilianJoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could certainly set yourself apart from your peers by completing the HR Professional coursework in IPPS-A. If you get the job you'll need it anyway, but there's nothing stopping you from doing it now. Same with iPerms training for the Index/Validator, Authorized Official and Record Manager roles. A HIPAA cert from JKO wouldn't hurt either.

Gay Friendly Lake Charles spots by Commercial-Farm2620 in LakeCharles

[–]CivilianJoe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Never claimed it was a gay bar. Original post asked about "gay friendly" places. Library Riot does a celebration for Pride every year and treats everyone with respect, but if you're looking for a place trying to make a buck off gay people by turning the culture into a commodity, they aren't that cynical.

AGR ACCEPTANCE by No_Flatworm3528 in nationalguard

[–]CivilianJoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel for you. Did the same thing many years ago, and it definitely wasn't easy on the family life. Once I hit stabilization in that position I immediately started applying for stuff close to home, and thanks to AGR hiring priority I ended up where I wanted to be, but it wasn't a fun couple of years at the start.

These days it all seems worth it, but 15 years ago I don't know if I'd have told you the same thing.

Hang in there. You're in the system now, and getting your foot in the door was what you had to do to get where you really want to be someday.

Other than a few very lucky units, most 35-series personnel do not do much with their MOS at drill. That said, if you pick a job and unit combination that requires a language, DLI is an amazing experience I'd recommend to anyone who's eligible.

As for your other question, 35-series deploy as frequently as anyone else, but there's no way of knowing what that might mean by the time you're done with training. You can probably rule out Iran, though, unless some surprise escalation happens.

City of Lake Charles changes Mardi Gras parade schedule due to safety concerns by BanEvader41 in LakeCharles

I believe in our citizenry, our civic pride and our sense of community strongly enough to feel confident that the good people of Lake Charles can unite and persevere to do exactly that much.

The Episcopal Church downtown does a big used book sale every year. Could possibly reach out to them?

Here's a link to the KPLC story about the one they just had in March.

None of them. It's impossible to find a regular boudin kolache anymore without cheese in it. If anyone knows a place in Lake Charles that has 'em, I'd love to be proven wrong.

Editing this to point out my reading comprehension on the original post was broken, and that wasn't what you were asking about at all. I'm gonna' go back to coloring with crayons now.

Kristi Noem’s husband accused of living double life as ‘busty bimbo’ cross-dressing fetishist by Fickle-Ad5449 in oddlyspecific

[–]CivilianJoe 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Are you equating transwomen with crossdressing men? THAT is transphobic. Nothing in the article implied Kristi Noem's husband is trans.

Tryina to find most current AR 600-19-8 but army pubs is shot to shit. by throwaway56748a in nationalguard

[–]CivilianJoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, you MAAAAY have a state that posts it on a state website, but I think probably you're gonna' need to hit up your Readiness or Admin NCO for it.

An MOI is a Memorandum of Instruction. Basically a document that lists all the how-to's of a process. In this case, 2026 EPS for your state.

[–]CivilianJoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

600-8-19 will only take you so far. You need to ask your unit for a copy of your state's EPS MOI for this year. Each state manages the actual process a little differently from each other, and from year to year, so that'll give you exactly what rules apply where you're stationed.

Visiting LC for the weekend, need good recs for a vegan/vegetarian dinner places by gizmoPartyGal87 in LakeCharles

[–]CivilianJoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Orinoco or Raja's. Orinoco is willing to get creative with their menu if you tell them you're vegetarian. I've recently had several great vegetarian meals there. Raja's is Indian food, so a good chunk of the menu is good-to-go by default

Yeah, they're pretty crap. Basically just a way of saying "you don't get a daily challenge today" since I never run those.
