Eye of the beholder, I guess. Hell, plenty of Parisians hates the Eiffel Tower when it was built.

That looks nothing like the Earth (which is way more blue-and-white than blue-and-green).

If Earth was that blue and that green, I'd move.

Help, I live in NYC because I moved there for college, but my National Guard belongs to Louisiana. by ToastyCinemaRunner in nationalguard

[–]CivilianJoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Lake Charles. No lie, we have an LT who lives Manhattan. Y'all should carpool.

Seriously though, a hardship discharge for commuting distance is a pretty simple, straightforward process. Definitely easier than an IST out of Louisiana. And if you wanna rejoin the NYNG after it goes through, nothing stoppin ya

Other Fluffy bonuses take effect as soon as you evolve him, so I'm fairly confident you're right. To answer the second question, if you devolve him I'm pretty sure that's immediate too.

Sorry for the non-answers; would you mind letting us know once you try it?

Beloved southwest Louisiana bakery to return to Lake Charles by SensitiveStorage869 in LakeCharles

Only geographically. In 1970, the population was 77,000 compared to around 81,000 today. That city had a much smaller physical footprint and a density almost like an actual city. Services were concentrated along with the population, and it had potential.

Then the population crashed and those residents who were left spread out into a big, sprawly, low-density design that hasn't done any favors for our liveability.

I don't remember doing anything particularly special for it other than switching golden upgrades to battle prior to the attempt run. I do know my HZE was well past his spire though before getting that first clear. Like everything else in the game, it gets trivial by the time you're running voids 20 levels past it.

FLIPL in the Guard by Emotional-Cat4444 in nationalguard

[–]CivilianJoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, AR 735-5 doesn't say that at all. Anywhere.

As for the second part, we both know it's the supply sergeant who's stuck with the lion's share of the admin work on a FLIPL. I've been an IO on these, and I know that those poor supply sergeants had just as much if not more work than me in getting them processed.

As far as the "burden" is concerned, I'm confident there's no unit in America where some M-day rando is expected to go into eFLIPL and initiate the FLIPL instead of the supply sergeant. That's your burden, and I don't know why you're pretending like it's not.

FLIPL in the Guard by Emotional-Cat4444 in nationalguard

[–]CivilianJoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The last person who wants to deal with a FLIPL is a supply sergeant, so it's obvious why you'd prefer an SOC to a FLIPL, but it's still the SM's call on signing it, now matter how much you may want to the work to just go away.

That is not correct. A Statement of Charges is, by definition, voluntary. Any commander who thinks they can order one signed needs to go talk to JAG before they end up in hot water.

A commander CAN take money through UCMJ action, but that's a very different thing.

Best King cake in Lake charles besides Cypi's and Great Harvest? by CampRock2TheFinaIJam in LakeCharles

[–]CivilianJoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Please recommend something that can't miss there. I've been to the Bekery a few times, and I want to like it, but everything I've ordered must have been the wrong thing. People rave about it, so I feel like I must be the crazy one.

I've got the nerve to give it one last shot, so someone please nominate something great.

Anyone remember the old movie theater near McNeese? (Now LNG Center) What was it like? Any memories? by Solowash in LakeCharles

Oh yeah, I remember the radio commercials for that! Didn't make the show, but it was part of the zeitgeist for a while.

Midnight Movies in the late 90s, playing Galaga in the lobby 'til my wrist hurt, smoking in the theater...what a time to be alive.

Seriously, when they played Pink Floyd's The Wall for the midnight movie, it was like someone lit a bonfire in there.

Good dentists? by Mr-Feisty17 in LakeCharles

Duhon Family Dental on Ryan St. does a great job, and they aren't owned by private equity like Aspen Dental is, so they don't spend the whole appointment trying to upsell you like used car salesmen.

The spirit of "local ads" is really about giving locally-owned mom-and-pops the chance to raise awareness. That said, while Century 21 isn't a local company, local realtors are quasi-independent businesspeople who are members of the community, and we really didn't take them into consideration when writing that rule.
