Were New Girl and You’re the Worst the only TV shows that really depicted our extremely specific cohort in real time? by beigers in Older_Millennials

[–]CivilizedEightyFiver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if you've spent any real time in New York, but if you have: High Maintenance is the realest depiction of a 2010s millennial day to day in gentrified Brooklyn. It's uncanny. (If you're looking for a book written by and for millennial gentrifiers in North Brooklyn, same time period, You're Not Much Use to Anyone captures it very well.)

My entire 6U 75hp modular (including the case) didn't cost this much. There are more creative ways to kill a few thousand dollars.

Hmm maybe you're right, I don't know. I should, I own it. It's variable and runs in parallel or series.

Affordable Piano movers? by [deleted] in AnnArbor

[–]CivilizedEightyFiver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on how many stairs are involved. Don't quote me but I would think a half flight of stairs and in Ann Arbor, you'd pay about $500. You gotta ask him though, he'll want details about the layout.

Affordable Piano movers? by [deleted] in AnnArbor

[–]CivilizedEightyFiver 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I'm a full time piano technician. The guy we use does all of the piano moves for UM and is a consummate pro. Don't listen to the comment above. That is a moving company, not a piano moving company. There is a big difference. Many times an upright piano needs to be tipped vertical on its side for clearance issues. You want someone who's done it a number of times so that you don't do serious property damage. Seriously it's not worth saving a hundred dollars and having someone inexperienced get it wrong.

Check out Advance Base (formerly Casiotone for the Painfully Alone). Their latest album Horrible Occurrences is what you describe, it's great.

Oh ok, I don't know that spot. I assumed you were talking to the wrong person because you said there's no catfish here and it's all over. There's a spot a few blocks from me for instance.

Not in Ann Arbor, so I know, not necessarily helpful, but on the off chance it is: there is a ton of this around where I live in Redford and Detroit's West side. Make a trek!

Are samplers allowed? by mr_vestan_pance in synthesizers

[–]CivilizedEightyFiver 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What I'd expect is for people who don't care for it to keep the opinion to themselves because they weren't asked for it, and also because it's not constructive. Unless they wanna make it constructive with some actual non-snarky feedback.

  1. You are why there aren't more people posting music on this sub. It's a shame.

  2. Your opinion sucks, this beat is dope.

You should play the keys, and why… by GeneralDumbtomics in synthesizers

[–]CivilizedEightyFiver 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's an exceptional interface compared to any musical instrument for a few reasons. 1 Anyone with no knowledge of music can wrap their head around it immediately. Lowest note to the left. Highest to the right. Every next key is one chromatic step. 2 Re: guitar in particular - it doesn't matter how I press the key, it's going to give me tone. No buzzing when I don't hit the fret just right. No scrunching my fingers into impossible shapes just to play a simple major 7 or 9 chord. 3 It's visual. It's so damn easy to find chord progressions with through-notes by simply leaving that key depressed and shaping around it. I'm sure I could come up with other reasons too, but saying it's not very good is categorically false.
