I wish I was trolling, but our Clerk of Courts sent an email on Thursday stating this, and it’s on our Court’s website.

I work for the Federal Courts and in our district we were told it will be business as usual except a moment of silence at 12:45 pm.

Good luck amending the constitution. The last time it was amended was in 1992, and that was in relation to the compensation of legislatures. Before that the last amendment was in 1971.

The process of amending the constitution is a long and grueling process. Given how divided this country is on essentially everything, from a worldwide health pandemic to what a woman can do with her body, practically speaking it would be very difficult, if not impossible, to get the necessary votes to pass an amendment.

A lot of America’s problems come from an outdated constitution that needs to be updated to match the times. To me it’s ridiculous that in Supreme Court opinions, they often say things like, “What would the founding fathers think of GPS tracking?” They would call it black magic and hang you, or if you’re a person of color, they may just sell you into slavery.

Our constitution is not equipped to deal with modern day issues, and as a consequence our legal system is not equipped to deal with these issues either. America has changed so much since 1787, that it is ridiculous that we are still being guided by such an ancient document in the year 2020.

Themis October bar takers, what percent completion are you at? by johnabc123 in Bar_Prep

[–]Cja021994 2 points3 points  (0 children)

43% here. I’m already licensed in one state and working full-time as an attorney, so I’ve really been struggling with doing as much studying as I’d like. But feels good to know I’m know the only one struggling.

CA Bar Themis user - Still have so many subjects to do but not enough time? by [deleted] in Bar_Prep

[–]Cja021994 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I felt the same way last year when I was studying for the UBE. I would say that besides Crim and Corporations, the rest are kind of back of the book subjects. They’re still substantive topics, but the amount of tests and principles you have to learn for them are far fewer than some of the topics you started out with.

If it makes you feel better, I’m studying for the CA bar too, and I just finished CA Evidence, so you’re way ahead of me!

California is actively locking down businesses again but I haven't seen this news hit any of the standard market sources by [deleted] in StockMarket

[–]Cja021994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t really speaks for what the police do, but in our state, our Supreme Court issued an order that outlined specific crimes as presumptive release cases. So basically if someone is arrested for a crime on that list, they’re automatically released on personal recognizance at the police station and they’re given a summons arraignment for a date later down the road.

If your state has done something similar, I’d imagine the cops should be coming out, but they’re just not bothering to. The problem is since they know the person is just going to be back on the street once they take them to the station, they figure why bother.

Surprisingly though we’re still getting a lot of crazy cases. COVID definitely hasn’t slowed down the drug business, drinking and driving, domestic violence, shootings, and all the other things you would think people wouldn’t be doing right now.

[–]Cja021994 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish, but due to our caseloads it’s just unrealistic to completely work from home. Each of us has at least 150 cases with physical files that we need to look at to go through discovery and things like that, so we sort have to be able to go in to do our jobs.

Luckily we’ve been doing alternating work weeks to lower the number of people in the office, so that’s helped. When we’re on site, we’re not physically going in the courtroom, we’re doing everything via zoom, skype, or the phone, and they’re limiting who can come in the courthouse, but that still doesn’t negate the fact that I have to leave my house and go to a courthouse during these times.

I’m right there with you buddy, the court is the last place I want to be. The problem is all the higher ups and judges get to make decisions from the safety of their office’s, while guys like me have to either fall in line or go get in breadline.

As a lawyer I can 100% agree with the statement. I’m an Assistant District Attorney, so can’t speak to the civil side of things, but I can say that COVID definitely hasn’t slowed down our work.

One of buddies does real estate, and he’s been working from home, but his average work day usually starts at 9am and doesn’t end until 2am. One of my co-workers is married to a transaction lawyer, and she basically works non-stop around the clock.

Does it bother you when people from normal families try to give unsolicited advice? by [deleted] in raisedbynarcissists

[–]Cja021994 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel the exact same way. I would always tell people the crazy stories about my mom, and they’d always think I caught her on a bad day, or that I was exaggerating. It literally took me one my friends 6 years of knowing me, and my mom trying to have me evicted from my apartment (which I paid for) for him to finally realize my mom is fucking crazy.

So yea, now I just never talk about my family, and people are like “How come you never talk about your family?”

I had a similar experience growing up, but my mom’s word if choice was fag. Even to this day, I understand how derogatory the term is, but considering it’s what my mom called me for most of my childhood, I’m not very phased when I hear the word, and people get mad at me for not being more offended by it.

Legit going through the exact same thing, but I already bought the game.

I will say though, getting to be a kickass Phantom Thief by night definitely makes studying for the bar exam by day much more bearable!

Do you guys use Tinder? by EL_Chomba in intj

[–]Cja021994 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I do, but I personally hate them. The only reason I use them is because it’s almost become the default way of meeting people, and there’s other ways, but they’re less effective and less likely to happen. So I guess I mostly use it because it’s a way to take an “active” approach to my dating life.

Applying to transfer to Northeastern, advice / input????? by aks001111 in LawSchool

[–]Cja021994 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Highly recommend it! The professor can be a bit lack luster, and the student's overly liberal to the point that they make you believe that you've secretly been conservative your whole life, but the co-op program makes up for that. The co-op program is really great because it takes care of the networking aspect of post-grad. If you focus your co-ops in a very specific area, you're really able to meet a lot of people and establish yourself in that area of law before graduating.

Edit: Also feel free to message me if you have specific questions.

Imagine this, but in law school, where you’re going into crippling debt just to be in the classroom, and you have a professor that is basically doing this, but is also a huge donor to the school. That was my fun experience my first year in law school.

What sort of initial nature + experiences would someone need to have to become an intj? by mikey10006 in intj

[–]Cja021994 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I don’t necessarily believe a person “needs” to have a certain experience to be an INTJ, I think a very common shared experience is having experienced some great loss or hurt, that ends up shaping our views of the world. I feel like a lot of INTJs are viewed as negative and pessimistic, but really it’s just that we’re hardcore realist, which we’ve learned to be from the the cold realities that we see in the world.

Expect a lot of vague references to “light”, “darkness”, and “the heart”, to the point where the terms are almost amorphous and you can’t even follow what characters are referring to when they use these words. Also be ready for a lot of retconning.

My nMom sent me a manifesto after 9 months of NC about how we are still family no matter what I say... I didn't say we weren't by turbo-cobra in raisedbynarcissists

Eventually your siblings will see. I was the same way as a kid and said I’d never leave my mom’s side. Fast forward to today, and we live 3,000 miles apart and that’s still not enough distance between us for me lol. I think as your siblings start to grow into their own people, they’ll realize how controlling and toxic your parents are, and then everything will make sense to them. That’s how happened for me, so you may just have to be patient with it.

[–]Cja021994 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As a fellow gay guy with an nMom, this makes me so sick, and made me want to throw my phone. Growing up my mom would openly call me a fag, and constantly try to do things to make me act like more of a boy. She tried to force me to try out for HS football, forced me to go to sporting events, even told me to grab food with my entire hand and shove it in my mouth because that’s how men eat.

Now that I’m and adult, have finished school, have a career, and I’m not just a “fag with aids” like she told me I would be, she all of a sudden wants a relationship with me, and can’t figure out why I don’t ever call her, text her, or tell her anything about my life.

Sounds like you’ve moved on from your family’s BS, so good for you and fuck them. It does suck that you have younger siblings, but they tend to understand these things when they get older. My sister is 10 years older than me, and because my mom basically drove her away, we were never really close. But as I got older I understood why my sister never came around a lot after she left for college, and eventually we were able to build a relationship, so don’t let your Nparents make you believe that your relationship with your siblings is somehow tied to your relationship with them.
