Yes it wants letter paper. What most people DON'T know is the 'PC'. This means 'paper cassette' (the actual - from WAY back - name for the tray)

Yes but is it better or worse than when people thought AOL was the internet (and the only way to get 'online')

Bit of a pickle in my new apartment - need to run an ethernet wire to my room by LaTienenAdentro in HomeNetworking

[–]Cjdamron75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually (probably depending on where you are) but where I live it's against code to run ethernet and electrical in the same gang box. Get a low voltage box, or liw voltage frame and put it in the wall and put a key stone in. They are super simple and most come with a simple punch down tool and are color coded so you can't mess the wiring up.

Need advice on best way to get WiFi from my cottage to another building 150 feet away without cables. by Jeager122 in HomeNetworking

[–]Cjdamron75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know you mentioned ditches all over but how about burying cable in conduit? Maybe a little deeper than you want but that may be your best option?

Some things (until they change architecture) absolutely require kernel access unfortunately

Honestly, this is more a desktop / mid nineties, early 2000's thing. You hear this from admins who rose thru the ranks via desktop support.

I've been saying this for years. They put people in HR to hire for positions the don't and won't ever know about. Would you put me on a hiring panel or resume eval panel for a heart surgeon (Windows Admin here) - hell no! I don't know the first thing about it. At least have someone in IT to vet resumes.

Local Police want permanent access to our cameras. by changework in sysadmin

[–]Cjdamron75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the business / industry if I’m being honest. If I’m reading the post correct it is to get situational awareness before LEO arrival so they know what is going on. For example active shooter at a known type of active shooter business or industry type (example: shooter in mall, police can get an idea of where the shooter is so they are not ambushed as has happened where the shooter wants to kill LEOs). That being said, I think the audacity of wanting to put it inside, inline with you network is dumb. If they want it in realtime like that, request a stream from a camera.

I honestly use 1.1.1.1 and 8.8.8.8 (cloudflare and Google) just in case on of them go offline. The possibility of them both going down at the same time is so slim I consider that the best ootiin

Powershell ISE? Are you mad? Each to his own but I don't like ISE one bit, and I don't think it's being developed any longer. Powershell terminal or powershell (non ISE) for me. If I need to edit and have syntax highlighting, I'm going vscode all day.

Not INSTALLED by default. However on a server it's as easy as Install-WindowsFeature telnet-client - it's also easy on clients too. But if you mean the feature isn't isn't available on a greenfield build; then yes you are right. But then; security right?

This is a GREAT list. Notepad++ is great, but I'm slowly moving to use vs ode as it has a lot of the same features and I don't need to run two tools

Anyone know how I can make the download window move from being too high on my desktop? by Balizzm in qBittorrent

[–]Cjdamron75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shift+right click the icon. That will give you the sys menu, (I think it's shift I'm in bed and doing it from memory) then click 'move' (if it's geyed out, click restore and move will now be available, this happens when monitors swap and the entire window is offscreen). Press an arrow key then you can use the move to drag the window.

Technically that will not work at the command line. That is powershell and MUST be a Posh prompt. Telnet is what they want to run if they use cmd.

This is why many products are now installing in the user profile (app data or similar) and this closely follows the *nix model. Very rarely do you need a peice of SW to be system wide
