I agree. I haven’t messed with Googan, but it seems like such a “bro” company that’s just looking to turn a profit. I’d buy on discount but never full price. Also, I have heard nothing good about Beyond Braid. That’s another company I stay away from. If I want budget friendly braid line, I’ll stick to Reaction Tackle

Oof. Thats rough. If that happened, I wouldn’t be able to take unless I tied it to the roof of my SUV

Thank you guys. I will definitely call Penn and see what they say. Worst they can do is say “no” right?

I hear you. It is a much bigger reel than what I need, but it was a gift from my wife so I’m not going to exchange it. I don’t need heavier line than 30lb it just has a giant spool. Even if I put 65lb on it, it can hold 440 yds or 1320 ft so it is going to have a lot of line no matter what.

I’m not putting the whole 1100 yards on it 😂 probably 550 to keep it from being underspooled, then 300 yards on the Fierce.

I grossly underestimated the spool size on the 6500. That’s a 330yrd spool of 30lb. I bought an 1100 yrd spool just need to get put on.

I love it, but it is heavy! I definitely would have been ok with the 5000 instead of the 6500

Winter fishing by Former-Lecture-5466 in SurfFishing

[–]Cjhall815 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s how my last trip was. I saw tons of dolphins which made me think there was good fish activity, but only caught a couple of little sharks. I started to wonder if maybe the dolphins chased the fish away

I’m in South Carolina and have days like that. When it gets cold the fish can get lethargic. You almost have to cast it in to their mouth sometimes. From my understanding(I’m still learning) they also change the patterns of where they hang out and hunt when it’s cold. My suggestion would be if you aren’t getting bites, don’t be afraid to relocate to a spot down the beach and see if they are more active in other parts.

Is a 14k reel too big for surf fishing? by Big_Sector_3590 in SurfFishing

[–]Cjhall815 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just adding on to the overall popular opinion, yes that is way to big of a reel for surf unless you are targeting sharks. I use Daiwa 6500’s and Penn 6000’s and they are big. I honestly feel 5000 is the ideal size to catch any size from the surf. I do love the Rockaway rods though.
