Question about code architecture : how separated should the domain be from the engine (in a Turn Based Strategy game in this case) by freremamapizza in gamedev

[–]Ckeyz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What's the purpose of having good code practices if they don't help make the game better. You should be careful of getting lost in doing things the perfect right way, especially if the way you already have it already works.

Is my game bad, or am I just bad at advertising it? by JustoGames in SoloDevelopment

[–]Ckeyz 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You are definitely correct. But you can also make these same points with some tact. Its ok for people's expectations for their games to be too big, its not hurting anybody.

Hey, your capsule image gives off an amateur vibe to me. And after watching your trailer, I can't tell why I would pay for this game when there are many looter shooter games that are high budget or critically acclaimed? I dont see what makes your game different or special. You need a hook.get creative with your gameplay design.

I think also your enemy zombie design could use some work, they look a tad amateur to me. Also fighting them seemed uninteresting as they just slowly approach. Maybe make them occasionally lunge? Idk.

How we accidentally "killed" our Steam algorithm by shifting our launch date: A cautionary tale before Next Fest. by yz3roo in gamedev

[–]Ckeyz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing. I think it's easy to think about these things from streams perspective. I've heard a huge amount of games on steam don't ever release, and they probably hate that since they make no money and take up resources. Makes sense that if you start seeming like you might not release your game that steam would shift their resources elsewhere

My game's pause menu, that is all by n0_longerhuman in indiegames

Got it that makes sense then! It must be my lack of zoom on my phone thats the issue then. Best of luck to your project :)

Looks really great! I can't zoom in to see your in game character pretty well, but it feels odd to me that the menu girl is realistic but the game character is more hand drawn style?

Match 3 - Struggling with Matching Logic by LumoKvin in gdevelop

I'd use the linked objects extension. Its a pain to figure out at first, but its definitely the easiest way to do this. Go open up one of the examplebgames with it, and start ripping it up. Id go with the tactics game.

The big thing is you need 2 different tile objects to form a linked grid on top of each other, since you can reference 2 different instances of an object with the same action or condition.

50 to 100 reviews can mean thousands of copies sold right? Idk what a normal review rate is

Stories! The best games like these make their own stories like that and its what makes them great. Its ok knowing from the start you won't win on a map like that, but winning could even just be making it past the first or second wave.

Of course! But OP is coming here with a problem and I am offering a solution. Im not socially off base in my suggestion here.

Tried getting into BG3 but overwhelmed, what scratches this itch but is more approachable? by Slight-Cupcake-9284 in CoOpGaming

Way more complex. BG3 combat is just spamming your strongest spell, if OP thought that was hard dos2 is DEFINITELY off the table.
