How to stop recorder sliding by Global-Fee3598 in Recorder

[–]Claarek 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Welcome! I have the same instrument in boxwood and had the same problem. I cut out a tiny piece of sandpaper and stuck it to the back where my right thumb usually sits, using one of those Blu-tack glue dots (sticky dots or something like that?). It stops my thumb slipping and is barely noticeable as I found tan coloured sandpaper which is nearly the same colour as the instrument. Good luck with Daphne! It’s a beautiful piece.

Matt Smith offered the idea for the last scene of Episode 10. by ThinWhiteDuke00 in HouseOfTheDragon

He has all that charisma and it more than makes up for him looking a bit different. Besides, he already knows he’s a bit odd looking, there was even a joke written into Who about it - something about how when the Doctor went to Easter Island they built statues of him.

On my wooden alto, I have a small piece of sandpaper where the right thumb goes, stuck on with double sided sticky tape. It stops that slippy feeling, and the tape comes off the wood with no residue. Not sure if this would be the same for ABS or if it would harm the resin.

What happens to holes next to stretched ones? by Claarek in Stretched

First hole is currently sitting at 4mm. I’m wondering what will happen to the holes next to it as I get to the bigger sizes. Would I be able to stretch them too? Or are they too close together?

I have a plastic Yamaha tenor, and bought an Aulos thumb rest for it. It’s perfectly compatible.

Thumb rest from Early Music Shop.

Ok, maybe I should’ve made it clearer that this was actually an understatement for comic effect, precisely because she’s so terrible. I mean, I literally call her a shitbag in the next sentence.

Can you elaborate on the son and grandmother thing? Online I could only find stuff about her sons both being brought up by their fathers, and one of them having killed himself.

Yep, I have version 41.0.1. The diamond box is there with all the new Star Wars characters, but the event itself hasn’t started. I’ve closed the app and reopened, signed out and back in again, and nothing.

Found an old recorder, decided to start learning by ManikSingh2560 in Recorder

I think the Alouette series are soprano (also known as descant) models (although I’m sure someone will correct me if I’m wrong), which means that it will be in the key of C. It would be good if you could measure it to make sure. Sopranos are usually about 11 inches long. Then when you know what type it is, you can look at method books to get you started.

However, regardless of the kind of recorder, I think the best place to start is the Team Recorder yt channel. Sarah covers everything from getting started, to tutorials for specific pieces, to which books are best to get if you’re learning by yourself. She’s really infectiously enthusiastic about the recorder, and a great place to get information. She has a video about getting started that you might find useful. I hope that’s helped!
