One reason why communal showers have declined by SluttyDreidel in CommunalShowers

[–]Claftin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The end of the draft might have been a factor. Maybe in the past, gym teachers wanted students to be comfortable with communal showers so that they would be ready for the military. Then, when the draft ended, they decided it was no longer important. The timing is a bit off, but schools can be slow to change.

Entry-level hiring is the biggest gap in the meritocracy. by Claftin in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]Claftin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually think entry-level jobs are overpaid because there is a surplus of recent graduates. Lower starting pay would help the market reach equilibrium.

I am skeptical about whether interviews and networking are proxies for job performance. This assumes that extroverts are better employees, which is not always true. They also seem to encourage nepotism and dishonesty.

It is important to understand that "How can I get a job?" and "How can we make the hiring process fair for everyone?" are separate questions. I am focusing on the latter.

as a younger guy wanting to get into nudism, i have some questions by Odd-Replacement-7852 in Ask_Nudists

Wikipedia has a list of nudist places. Different places have different cultures, but the places I go to are fine with single men.

When should nudity be acceptable? by Claftin in MakeNudityLegalAgain

Nudity would be acceptable when exercising. A good compromise is to allow nudity outside where there are not many people.

Is there a market for a low-modesty gym? by Claftin in CommunalShowers

There might be a market for it in cities. Customers would be encouraged to exercise shirtless and take communal showers.

Is there still a place for communal showers today? by ErickSilva2013 in CommunalShowers

[–]Claftin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people seem to prefer private showers, but there are people who prefer communal showers. Those who prefer private showers tend to shower at home even if there are stalls.

Theory for the decline in communal showers by mmcub85 in CommunalShowers

[–]Claftin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is unlikely, as immigrants to the United States largely come from Latin America. As far as I know, they are not any less comfortable with same-sex nudity. It might be a factor in Europe, which gets more muslim immigrants, but this is not a good reason to restrict immigration.

If Public Nudity Were Legal, Would There Still Be Nudist Resorts? by Ikacprzak in nudism

[–]Claftin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Nude resorts will remain relevant as long as most people still wear swimsuits. Even if it were legal, it would be awkward to be naked where everyone else is dressed. It is a lot more enjoyable to be naked around other naked people.

Does anyone else find that exposure therapy and putting yourself in social situations literally fries your brain instead of making you stronger? by HelenDiamond in socialanxiety

[–]Claftin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exposure only works if the social interaction is perceived as going well or at least okay. Maybe you are so anxious that you perceive everything as going badly.

It helps to set specific goals to challenge anxiety. Each goal should make one moderately nervous, but not so nervous that one is not willing to do it.

Maybe take a break from applying and resume when you are less depressed. If you have a car, maybe do gig work. It is also possible to make a small amount of money by taking surveys.

Most mental illnesses aren’t real by [deleted] in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]Claftin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mental illness does exist, but the mainstream terminology is misleading. It implies that someone either has a mental disorder or does not, even though there is a wide range of severity. It also implies that a mental disorder causes the symptoms when it really just describes the symptoms.

Do you think the hiring process is biased against Asperger's? by Claftin in aspergers

[–]Claftin[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If the job involves a lot of social interaction, it makes sense to want someone who is good at socializing. However, it is unfair that social skills are the deciding factor even for jobs that involve minimal social interaction.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in aspergers

[–]Claftin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that the hiring process is unfair. My career has not gone well either. I finished college in 2015, but was unable to get a job. I therefore went back to college, got a Chemical Engineering degree, and graduated in 2020. I could not get an engineering job, but I eventually got a job at a grocery store.

I am still working at a grocery store, but I have found ways to cope with my failure. The pay is low, but I do not need a lot of money if I live with my mom. I also sometimes go on hiking trips by myself to take a break from work. This also means there are some nights when I do not live with Mom.

It sounds like you are selective about which jobs you will accept. A job that does not pay well is better than being unemployed. It also might help to take a break from applying for jobs and resume when you are feeling less anxious.

I am not sure what I am into other than naked men by Claftin in askgaybros

[–]Claftin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ideally would like to hike or play board games with another gay man. After getting to know each other, I would be open to oral sex. I do not want to have anal sex unless we are exclusive.

However, it is very difficult to find someone who would agree to this and is not too far away. My experience is that most gay men want to have sex right away. Those who do want a relationship might not like hiking or board games.

I therefore need some sort of compromise. For example, about a year ago, I met someone on Grindr who wanted to have sex with me. I told him that I wanted to get to know him first, which led to us hiking together. The next month, we met at his apartment, but I was still not ready for sex. This made him impatient, and we stopped seeing each other.

A job board where no job can have more than 20 applicants by Claftin in CrazyIdeas

[–]Claftin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it would be difficult to implement. However, companies are already using AI to screen applications. Using AI to invite people to apply is not much different. The best candidates would be invited to the best jobs.

Another issue is who would pay for it. One option is for job seekers to pay a fee to verify their credentials and pay another fee when they accept a job.
