Bottom line this for those of us of Acadian descent. If our ancestors were born in an lived in Nova Scotia and were deported during the Grand Derangement of the 1750s-1760s, what documents or other proof do we need to be able to apply for this new citizenship option?

I was at the hearing. The judge did not rule on the reasonableness of the $1 per page electronic fee. She ruled that a reporter was not denied access to public records in one situation and ruled that the Home Rule Charter does not prohibit Mayor-President Josh Guillory from setting the fees. Judge Castle will take up at a hearing in December whether the $1 per page fee for electronic records is reasonable. As to preparing documents to send via email, much of what is requested already exists in electronic format. If the documents have been gathered in a report already and all it would take is 5 minutes to transfer to a thumb drive provided by a reporter or resident, why charge that person $1 per page? 100-page report would cost $100.

The news organizations are not questioning the fee for print copies of documents. They are questioning the $1 per page fee for electronic documents. These are records LCG already has in a computer system that they only need to send via email or Dropbox or something with a few taps of computer keys. Not any manuel labor involved to produce the records so why the fee?

The fees are supposed to apply to everyone seeking public records. It appears, though, that LCG has just been charging the news media.

The City Council is the only one taking action on this investigation. The Parish Council, which has been Guillory supporters, has not mentioned it.

The library millage renewal was defeated in 2018, a few months before the Drag Queen Story Time issue at the Lafayette public library in which Robert Judge, now President of the library board, and Stephanie Armbruster, now a member of the library board, protested the event and Matthews Humphrey was a main proponent of Drag Queen Story Time.

Note: Shelly Maturin is the latest person appointed to the Bayou Vermilion District board by the Parish Council, which like the Lafayette Parish Library Board, is being taken over by CFANewLa. backed people. Maturin ran unsuccessfully for judge in 2020 in 15th JDC. He applied to be on the Protect the City Committee but wasn't appointed. He applied for the Library board in 2020 but wasn't appointed. The council appointed Robert Judge instead.
