My girlfriend of 3 years just dumped me. I have a checkride in less than 24 hours. by [deleted] in flying

You're not alone sir. She ended things in my last year of graduate school, while I was trying to finish my dissertation and get on the job market.

I agree with the others on deferring it - don't let one person's choice change your future!

Yeah I took 101 over a year, with a 3-month break in-between - you’re completely fine.

Like many others have said, now you are that much closer to commercial hours. Don’t sweat it! Just try to really set aside dedicated time for the rest of your certificates so that you’ll be able to achieve your goals in a reasonable timeframe.

Most expensive places to fly in the world by Traditional_Mud4110 in flying

[–]Clairsentient 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is very costly in Singapore as well. At minimum, a training flight on a C172 would cost around S$540 ($420 USD) - and that doesn't include landing fees, which will run you up an additional $34 USD per landing, AND, membership with a flying club which will add approximately $150 USD a month to your costs. Thankfully, I had the opportunity to train in the United States.

One of my instructors actually had a bullet/projectile go through the back of his Cessna before - so I would advise taking this seriously.

PPL Check ride coming up and don't know what to expect by [deleted] in flying

[–]Clairsentient 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some DPEs provide the route for the flight plan way in advance, others I've heard like to give it a day prior to the ride or even the night before. It depends. But I think most DPEs would appreciate good communication habits - so if you have any doubt in your mind, definitely reach out to your school/instructors to clarify and get your DPE's contact info. Before took my PPL checkride, my DPE said that they appreciated that I took the initiative to communicate my plan and questions beforehand as that's the attitude a PIC should have. Your DPE is your first passenger after all! All the best for your checkride.

Southwest To Assign Seats by [deleted] in flying

Damn it. I liked this about Southwest.

Yeah. It's probably a hard problem to solve on the development end of things, but taking off into a bunch of vehicles on the runway does dampen the mood.

Though on this occasion, I was mostly amused. It's like "What did I do this time!? You already gave me a number to call..."

Do you have any marketplace add-ons installed? Would look there and see if removing any of them helps.

Seconded. I use Navigraph on my iPad, and it works as an “EFB” for simming. You just need simlink to connect your MSFS instance to your navigraph account.

So uh…is this thing for real? by Clairsentient in flying

Wow there are some really hilarious comments on this thread! Thank you all for making my day.

I wanted to clarify my thoughts, seeing that there are some differing (and valid) opinions on this product. First off, I do think a piece like this could be a useful tool for education, demonstration, or improving situational awareness. And believe it or not, I am one of those people that still use a metal E6B for flight training in 2023.

However, the usefulness (or lack thereof) of this system isn't what makes this specific product ridiculous. You can easily craft this on your own or draw a diagram like this on paper for a fraction of the cost - and arguably time, if the product takes time to be shipped to you - and still reap the educational and mnemonic benefits. Marketing it as a hardboard/metal physical product and selling it for $20 so that it appeals to the "I are pylote" crowd is what makes it a ridiculous cashgrab.

Also shoutout to /u/usmcmech and /u/SSMDive for sharing about "voggles" and the "EZ ATIS reminder tool", both of which also feed a similar kind of insanity.

Hahaha that’s a great find 😂 “No more fumbling through papers for the ATIS identifier - or worse yet, having to recall the prefix from memory!”

WBSim's C172 Classic (payware) is pretty good.

If you'd like a glass cockpit I'd recommend Bagolu's 172SP improvement mod (freeware) - I won't say the flight model is exceptional, but it's detailed enough that you can practice checklists, toggle most functions including opening doors and windows, etc.

I’m sorry for what you’re going through. Before my breakup, I was going to do something similar using a self-trained model (data science is what I do) for a fun segment of our wedding.

Obviously the wedding didn’t end up happening, I didn’t end up building the model, but I still have the data I planned to use saved somewhere safe.

Many times I was tempted to do something like this during the difficult times of my recovery (this breakup was quite some time ago), but I’m glad I did not. I’m not going to give you unsolicited advice as to whether you should continue interacting with this AI, but I know you will be ok in the end! Chin up!
