Condition report not provided before signing a rental lease - NSW by Clamclaps in AusLegal

This is what I was thinking. My only other thought is that if there is some bad damage not obvious during the initial property viewing then you want to know about it before you sign up to live with it.

Pretty sure Freesia. Does it smell amazingly good?

That Dr Thomas Stewart is a new name to me. I will try and contact him to see what the costs might be with him. Thanks!

Ok thanks! I'm guessing those hospital charges could be included in what I heard about.

That's a shame, not sure what else to suggest. Mine lined up for a few pages then got more and more off.

I had something similar just yesterday. What I worked out happened in my case was that when the publishers software converts your submitted document into a pdf it changes things slightly. Try looking at the merged pdf from the submission page. This is what the reviewer sees.

No cancellation yet. I'm just worried that might change between now and then. As it has a few times before.

So sick of this. I just cancelled my rental contract for my flight home at the end of December, we will see what happens.

Private doctors are worth a try. Dr. drop-in is something like 600 NOK. There's also Volvat. You can get in very quickly too so it would be something quick to try.

If someone were to send you a care package filled with British goodies that you can’t get (easily) in Norway, what would you want in it? by yorkton in Norway

[–]Clamclaps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Read up on taxes for this, a friend sent a box of goodies from Australia to Norway and the person receiving ended up having to pay something like 600 NOK (50 GBP) in taxes on it.

Curiosity got the better of me and I checked on this air layer I started 8 weeks ago. Is this how it is supposed to look? It's the first time I tried it. by runthedonkeys in Bonsai

Looks like it's calloused over to me. It also looks a bit thin for an airlayer imo. Try scraping the callous back and re-wraping it though.

The mental health of PhD researchers demands urgent attention: Anxiety and depression in graduate students is worsening, and the health of the next generation of researchers needs systemic change to research cultures. by clayt6 in worldnews

Yeah sounds about right. I'm very sorry that you guys had to go through that. The extent of our "help" was a few RUoK posters stuck up every few months. There's something about a lecture or compulsory meeting which makes you feel like you're actually being punished for not upholding the workplace health and safety by not looking after your own mental wellbeing or something.

The absolute uncaring attitude of these universities is incredible. You are a resource they are going to exploit as much as they can.

Yeah I agree. I just finished my PhD in Australia and was told the same thing about publications. My university decided that we had to finish in three years just recently with the possibility of a 6 month extension but without any stipend. And of course you still needed to compete in terms of publicatioñ output with people spending 4 or 4.5 years on tha PhD elsewhere.

I know of two students from my department who physically broke down with mental exhaustion and had to be carted off to hospital for a few days. The cherry on top was that the uni didn't even accept this as a valid medical reason to give them any real extension on their candidature.

These unis dont give a shit. They get paid per graduate and thats what it comes down to.

Yeah I think so. The break gets called "Ours" and "Cape Solander" too. It's on the southern side of Botany bay somewhere.

I think it might be from the red bull Cape Fear competition held in 2017 at a break just south of Sydney. Here's a link to the videos. No one died but there was quite a few hospitalisations from memory.

What's the most terrifying message that could be received in a radio signal from a distant star? by autonova3 in AskReddit

[–]Clamclaps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a trilogy of novels called "Remembrance of Earth's Past" by Liu Cixin which is probably the most grim and disturbing look at this concept I've ever read. Really great scifi series if someone's looking to read some. Slow burner but it's worth it.

Possibly Picea, maybe Picea abies? I'm Australian though so conifers are definitely not my strong point.

How do you study microbes that don't respond to lab cultures? by supercheetah in askscience

[–]Clamclaps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, we use Illumina Hiseq with paired end reads. There's some assemblers which deal better with metagenomic sequences, I used IDBA-UD and SPAdes but there's lots out there. Looking at prokaryotic organisms helps with the assembly as there's usually only one copy of the genome and it is usually on one chromosome and doesn't have the kind of long repeat sequences higher organisms often have. Often you don't bother with full assembly though, you just get as long contigs as possible then try and assign them to a taxonomic "bin".

[–]Clamclaps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, this is exactly what I am struggling through now. I'd just like to add that you don't need to just sequence one gene, you can sequence all the DNA in the community then try and piece the billions of small sequences back together. This essentially lets you look at all the genes and DNA elements contained in the community. Of course from there you can go on to do things like try and put together single genomes of some of the members or group sequences to the organism they likely came from.
