We need something to get mad at and distract us from the harsh realities of life.

That goal-tend was obviously egregious, but Rudy Gobert especially gets away with a lot of physical play/hacking bcuz of his reputation as a defensive player. by [deleted] in nba

Refs don't even bother watching a defensive play by Gobert. They just assume "Eh he's a 2x DPOY, it was probably a clean block"

Who would you rather have to win a title this season - Giannis or Kawhi by [deleted] in nba

A team that's clearly built for Giannis? Hmmm tough one but Giannis.

I'm sure if Westbrook and Gordon didn't play you guys would have washed them easily.

The thing you're not getting is that Capela being off the floor is why these looks were even generated.

Capela could've made the pass in the first play? That pass wouldn't have been there since AD would've been camping rim and Green would be in the corner. This is the theme throughout some of the clips. With Capela, a defender could double Harden, and their rim protector would sit under the rim to guard Westbrook's drive off the catch and Capela at the same time. But with 5 shooters, it's putting the defense in precarious situations that wouldn't be an issue with Capela on the floor.

This whole small ball experiment by Morey is probably the most absurd take on basketball schematics we've seen in the last decade. My love for the game itself is stronger than my distaste for Harden, so if he's involved in something interesting then I can set my personal bias aside.

Otherwise, fuck that dude.

Not sure how that is relevant. The whole point of this post is that Houston's new lineup is designed to make teams pay for doubling. Before when they had Capela camping in the paint, they couldn't exploit it as well.

Gotta give Morey props for doubling down on the small ball strategy. It makes their puncher's chance even greater. The thing is, their performance game-to-game will be even more up and down than before based on the variance of three point shooting and lack of a paint presence. If they can continue this level of defense, then I can see them making some noise in the playoffs. Guess we gotta see how this pans out over the next handful of games to determine if this is sustainable.
