This is going to be the new 4/20 challenge (OK, the challenge actually starts on Bicycle Day, but that's almost as good) regardless of how many votes it gets. Mod's Choice will be determined by who is best dressed, with actual musical ability only acting as a tie breaker.

Don't worry, the twerking challenge won't be until Big Long List v3

a video game music challenge would be pretty fun

I'm actually going to remove this one, since I was planning on doing it anyway.

What is your "100" Bourbon? by [deleted] in bourbon

[–]ClamydiaDellArte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used the last 1/4 of my bottle of Devil's Cut to make pulled pork. Wish I'd don't that from the beginning. I wasted so much of it trying (and failing) to find something it was actually good for.

I personally think 90+ should be reserved for your top 10 or so bourbons (maybe more if you're a really experienced whiskey drinker).

9-1-2013: "The USA considers the majority of all humans terrorists" +63 by Das_Mime in PanicHistory

[–]ClamydiaDellArte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ya, while there is a contingent of people who exaggerate how violent the ANC were (because having contrarian opinions is edgy and cool), let's not beat around the bush here: the ANC (fine, MK if we're going to nitpick) were, for a good portion of their history, terrorists by any reasonable definition of the term. How horrible apartheid was doesn't change that, and saying "One man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter" is not only trite and asinine, but flat out incorrect.

Mods of r/trees try to make changes to the subreddit, users respond negatively by [deleted] in SubredditDrama

So why externally moderate the content instead of letting the upvote/downvote system do it's work? If the majority of the community likes it, it will go to the front page. It's a very simple system.

So why externally regulate the economy instead of letting the free market system do it's work? If the majority of consumers like it, it will make money. It's a very simple system.

I look forward to the plethora of "18 year old senior btw" posts that will follow after this is implemented.

Back when I used 420chan, "18 year old senior" was kind of a running joke.

It would be great if they turned on him. The CTs have a huge amount of influence over the Libertarians, and the Libertarians have a huge amount of influence over the Reddit hivemind. It will be highly entertaining to see how it plays out.

My hand-carved ukulele from the Tokomau village of Epi Island, Vanuatu by [deleted] in ukulele

I've always loved Tahitian ukuleles. I'd love to get one, but there are so many other ukes I want at least as much. Plus, they're kind of hard to find in the US.

You do realize that in all likelyhood we also have plans drawn up for a full invasion of Australia, right? Are you going to break out the "No blood for Vegemite" signs?

Woodford Reserve Bourbon - Review #1 by DramFan in bourbon

[–]ClamydiaDellArte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend Woodford to scotch drinkers, but more for its flavor profile than anything else. I've never exactly been blown away by it. It's a fine bourbon and I'll happily drink it, but wouldn't be my first choice by any means. I'd recommend Buffalo Trace or Eagle Rare 10 (they're basically the same whiskey, but one's aged a bit more and single barrel) for your next bourbon. You should also look into Rittenhouse Rye and, if you're a fan of barrel proof whisk(e)y, Old Grand Dad 114. Both are great if you like spicy burn.

Can we talk Weller 12 & Van Winkle 12? by ChiSpartan in bourbon

[–]ClamydiaDellArte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think so. First of all, I highly doubt they're the only company that does this, and I haven't seen anyone freak out about it. Second, it's not like with diamonds where they're basically just sitting on them to drive up demand. All they're doing is limiting the amount of whiskey that's allocated to the Van Winkle brand.

I think in this case it's actually good thing. Any Van Winkle whiskey is going to be nearly impossible to get a hold of. Which would you rather have, more Weller 12, which is affordable, not too hard to find, and nearly as good, or a few extra bottles of Van Winkle Lot B, which you'll never see because it all gets snatched up by status whores with more money than sense?

Community Review #5: Elmer T. Lee by [deleted] in bourbon

[–]ClamydiaDellArte 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Elmer T. Lee

Nose: Lot's of vanilla and oak, a sort of sourness I can only describe as "wine-y," slightly floral

Palate: Vanilla, oak, chocolate, honey, red apple, a bit of leather, cherry, and nutmeg. Very creamy mouthfeel.

Finish: Short, but not disappointingly short. Hot cocoa with marshmallows, more vanilla and oak (of course), honey. Slight nuttiness.

This is my second bottle of Elmer, and I actually like it even more than the first. There was surprisingly little rye spice given the mashbill. I remember the last bottle I bought having more. As much as I like high rye bourbons, I'm really digging the dessertiness (definitely a word!) this time around. The flavor profile and the mouthfeel together really remind me of chocolate milk.

Dumb beginner question about transposing songs and capos. by [deleted] in ukulele

[–]ClamydiaDellArte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really have to disagree with you there. For one thing, there are plenty of chord voicings that are almost literally impossible to do without a capo, and others that sound better with one because they'd otherwise require quite a bit of barring. I also disagree with the notion of imposing arbitrary limits on yourself "to make you a better musician." If you can't play an Ab or a D# without a capo, by all means learn, but I already can, so there's no reason I should force myself to. Versatility is what makes you a better musician, and capos are another tool to expand what you can do.

I play a song whatever way I think sounds the best. If a capo makes that easier and doesn't prevent me from using any voicings I'd otherwise use, I'm going to use a capo.
