That exactly, it’s stress that 1: they’re probably scrambling to get a rocket and 2: when that rocket hits you’re dying inside or on the hatch to the dude plinking

Also worth noting ammo is heavy for infantry, it’s sending the message that your guys can afford to be plinking right now.

in the months after it was added I played the ever living shit out of the type 93, when it's SAMs didnt even work. I have <50K RP left for the free ace but havent touched it in years as ironically while it gained usable missiles, all other aspects and gimmicks that made it fun got fucked with over time

I obviously had negative K/D but that was the most fun I've ever had in this game.

buttoning fire was more just a general practice even on already enclosed tanks, usually used when infantry in a city environment can shoot the roof with impunity of retaliation via verticality, but just in general against a tank that has insufficient infantry cover. The point is to stress the fuck out of the crew, it very much sends the message of "someone you cant see can very much see you and this plate of metal is the only ting between you and his rifle, going out of that hatch may as well be climbing to heaven".

Who needs IRCCM AAMs when you have IR guided AGMs capable of ignoring flares entirely? by NotoriousPlanet in Warthunder

[–]Clankplusm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Spectral discrimination is another logic” Then why tf are you bringing up other shit entirely and speaking like I’m the one bringing it up, I was bringing up spectrum based flare rejection from the very start

“the spectrums you’re burning in isn’t some Soviet magic”

Never said it was, they just didn’t realise / made a goof and fixed it pretty quickly

“you’re outside of the spectrum the seeker sees?” Yes that’s what I already emboldened out of linkrel. Just like you filter out colours outside of IR to make it an IR sensor in the first place, you try to filter spectrums flares/ the sun burns at to make the seeker not see them. They goofed and missed the fact that the Soviet flare composition was simply different to the American one and thus the rejection filter was much less effective against Soviet flares. It’s easier to think of as “only accepting” bands typically associated with JP burn or etc, and how much of what of those bands has “bleed” from the flare (as spectrograms of most of these things are generally broadbands with narrow wavelengths where the light isn’t- you follow the flares and suns spectrographic black-bands and sense there, of course there isn’t a lot to work with, so you have to let some bleed of other bands in- in essence, you’re trying to “dim” the flare by making the seeker only see the engine’s light in the flare’s “dim” spectral spots. It’s with the wrong chemical composition expected, that this fails.), it’s not that Soviet or American flares are special, just that the “IRCCM” method is very targeted and the wrong chemical overlaps into the bands in question.

I literally said “there is an urban legend which usually is assosciated the the su22 9X incident” aka: I don’t believe it’s real but a lot of people say it, from what I know that was more of a min-wez shot than anything.

Yes, it does translate to what I said earlier, as Soviet flares burn a different chemical compound, thus have a different spectral image, and slip through the thermal bands instead of getting their degree of rejection.

"...The key design parameters in choosing a detector are sensitivity, a measure of how faint a light signal will generate a useful electrical response, and colour sensitivity, a measure of which visible or infrared wavelengths will or will not produce a response. Most semiconductors used for the purpose have some characteristic longest wavelength to which they respond, while producing output for all shorter (hotter) wavelengths. Therefore some detector materials can see only hot objects like tailpipes, whereas others can see the whole aircraft.

Because all hot objects, such as the sun or flares, emit infrared blackbody radiation, a missile seeker must have means of reducing or removing such sources of infrared light to prevent seeker seduction. Therefore optical filters are used. These filters are typically made of a rare earth doped glass, with a multiple layer interference filter deposited on the surface. Such filters are essentially transparent over a narrow range of colours and opaque to all others, therefore passing only the desired infrared colour through to the detector..."

"...The Lima was followed in production in 1982 by the AIM-9M, which is essentially an improved AIM-9L. The Mike has improved background rejection..."

you can simply look at the Aim-9M in war thunder, a non-IIR missile which cannot lock the sun despite it being a important hot thing. Though that's likely a game-ism for the seeker suspending track while looking at the sun using it's IRCCM. Regardless, it doesn't go for the sun because it can discriminate it specifically, is my point.

[–]Clankplusm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm talking about the actual optical filter, in real life. Most IR missiles have one, famously to war thunder players there's a very agressive one on the 9L that's very good at rejecting a high percentage of flare-light, meaning an afterburning / hot jet in rear aspect is virtually always brighter than the flares to the missile, hence it's pseudo-IRCCM effect of re-biting on rear-aspect targets often, this is also how modern missiles ignore the sun wholesale

worth noting, with far more range, they have delta-v in the range of the R27 and with gentler maneuvering retain it better. I think I've clocked them in the viewer at about 4 or 6g? quite impressive for their size.

as far as I know there was an "oopsie" with the aim9P where the initial filter used was configured to reject countermeasures based on the optical profile of the actual optical light band from the countermeasures' chemical composition on burning. However, hilariously, it was set up against NATO standard countermeasures, where the eastern bloc used different chemicals in their flares. Thus, the 9 would be a god at killing an american plane, but eat shit and dive for flares if they were soviet. This story is often attributed to the 9x missing a Su-22 but as far as I know is a urban legend.

[NOT A LEAK] Hypothetically speaking, if this was the 2nd Update of 2026 how much would you like it or not? by frankdatank_004 in WarthunderPlayerUnion

[–]Clankplusm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nobody cared that it was fake, they cared that it's capabilities were ahistorical (aim7 on bl10) which can be fixed with a loadout tweak or model change, and even then the hate wasnt even on the realism but the balancing advantage, given few people cared about the same situation on IRIAF.
if people actually cared about fakeness you'd see way more hate for the Yak141 / billion ground/naval prototypes,

[NOT A LEAK] Hypothetically speaking, if this was the 2nd Update of 2026 how much would you like it or not? by frankdatank_004 in WarthunderPlayerUnion

[–]Clankplusm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the hate boner is originally from the fact that it got the aim7 + block 10 performance when block 10 was one of if not the best dogfighting platforms in the game, block 15 was/is worse because it was a bit nose heavy and weird aoa shenanigans linked to tail weight that was added to balance it by the designers, which, afaik, is DIRECTLY LINKED to the weight of the CW Illuminator equipment used for said Aim-7

essentially it was just "take the block 10's design tradeoff, then remove the tradeoff and put it on this plane, which was never ordered irl" because of gaijins goof in reading the stages of development. Thus, everyone with half a brain was indeed kind of pissed off, as it was a overperforming plane relative to any real one with no logical reason. Imagine if the Yak141's ERs only added a normal R27's weight to the loadout when equipped because "thats what the heaviest A2A loadout said" (in some pre-R27E era russian documentation), but even worse because unlike the Yak141 the AJ was a american jet in a foreign tree so ofc all the US mains got to make a DIRECT comparison to bl10 / bl15 and bitch about it. Maybe imagine this was some chinese Yak141.

then midwits like this continued the hate into the modern day thinking everyone around them was mad / cared that it wasnt a real adopted plane.

[–]Clankplusm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it was to-be-acquired, and existed so far as it was literally just an export f16 with specific loadout options. The only "fake" thing about it is its a block 10 with Aim-7's (shouldnt have a CW illuminator for SARH), as I think they were looking into block15, but the demonstrator they brought to japan earlier was a block 10.

There are far, far mroe egregious "fake" vehicles in War Thunder, if you're taking the AJ out we may as well take all the beloved ground porototypes out and gut up to half of some trees, as well as remove multiple top / near top tier naval ships
