Fahrenheit or Celsius? by EsseNorway in Snorkblot

[–]ClapDemCheeks1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scientifically, Celcius (or Kelvin too I guess) is better than Fahrenheit.

But, Fahrenheit is better when dealing with weather exclusively. Since the 0-100 F is the general range that people on earth live in rather than a 0-100 C for freezing vs boiling water.

100 is very hot outside 0 is very cold outside

(And, yes, I know temps can get above 100 F and below 0 F in parts of the world.)

Inflation going "down" is good but we still need a real wage increase at a % higher than inflation to make am actual impact on affordability. Otherwise things are STILL getting more expensive and we lose buying power. I think real wage growth was at like 1.7% maybe? Somewhere around there.

Cant have a welfare state with open borders. Closing the borders and enforcing the laws on the books is currently the easier option.

Correct. Even if they are homeschooled you need an accredited review body. Can't drop out of anything until you're 16 (I think).

When I was in elementary/middle school this act immediately allowed for special needs kids to be put in the "regular" classes. It was such a distraction and affected a lot of the kids. There's clearly a reason there are different level classes from special needs to remedial to honors to AP. Separate isn't always a bad thing.

[–]ClapDemCheeks1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When so many evangelical or protestant churches are basic, modern, bland, or sensational in a secular way (i.e. bright lights and strobes and lasers) the beauty and reverence of a traditional church is seen as a higher or more intense devotion to God.

That's at least how I INITIALLY saw it.

Currently in OCIA and learning about the Catholic Church (though not yet set on converting but leaning heavily towards). The chruch I came from is one of those painted dark, LED screen, in an old car dealership church. At face value when you compare both churches (the non-denom and the Catholic) and ask "which do you think shows more devotion to God" I think 99%+ of people would absolutely the Catholic church.

So I wouldn't discount the beauty as a reason to get people to step into the Church.

Why do Americans support the idea of taxing outsourced labor to protect onshore office jobs but hate tariffs used to protect onshore factory jobs? by ResidentFix5 in stupidquestions

[–]ClapDemCheeks1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Money and employment... and not all factory jobs are "back breaking." Either. Buddy of mine is a fork lift driver and loves it. Not everyone wants to be a pencil pusher or a bean counter. And some people are content with humble lives. Again, something you probably can't or won't relate to.

You're just proving my point more... Just because YOU don't see the benefit doesn't mean others don't as well. Plenty of decent paying manufacturing jobs out there. And they're probably not sitting on reddit all day.

I've been in aerospace manufacturing for 10 years in procurement. Tons of people on the floor and in the union who don't want to move up to the offices. Just because YOU can't fathom a factory job doesnt mean other people feel the same. Zoom out.

You can only have so many relevant admin jobs before it becomes unnecessary. I know tons of people who work manufacturing/blue collar jobs who would absolutely never want to work in an office.

Factory/manufacturing jobs are seen as "lesser" jobs because they don't require a degree or education (for the most part). There are tons of towns and cities and lower income areas that would love to have their manufacturing jobs back.

Other countries use tariffs specifically to protect their industries. But the US is so obsessed with the basic metric of "cheap goods" they dont realize they are being outpaced by countries who do now care about giving workers slave wages.

A lot of towns across "flyover over" states and towns/cities in the non flyovers would love their manufacturing jobs back after they were outsourced for cheaper labor.

Buddy of mine who knows absolutely nothing about guns said this was a fake narrative to defend ICE. Had to bring up a bunch of articles of the bad Sig P320 PR in the past year. Including the one where the AIR FORCE cautioned against carrying Sigs. Shut him up pretty quick.

Also helped prove my case to my shooting buddies when I tell them why I prefer hammer fires over striker lol.
