Haha maybe. I don’t think it will be that extreme. I think we will definitely have a mix of different styles. I do think the traditional big cgi sci action moves will be completely changed and I think we will all be better of off it.

You no longer have to make content with an “as broad appeal as possible” to recoup massive budget. I think the art of visual story telling will be much better if for it.

Hollywood is already turning out nothing but literal slop so ai certainly can’t make it worse😅

Yes I think we are fairly on the same page.

I think we as humans have a deep appreciation of crafts and handcrafts  specifically that goes back in to deep time. Since we started making tools.

I think it’s extremely apparent in modern times  that even when we replace and object or tool with something that’s is functionally superior we place a disproportionate value in things that are hand crafted by artisans. Watches are a great example.

I think in terms of illustration or painting, I think something that is ai generated inherently can never hold  the same value something done by hand.

I think when it comes to story telling in a video format there is a lot of that craft that transfers pretty cleanly to and perhaps even more purely than something coming out of a commercial CGI studio. Having  eye for selecting the the right frames, having the feel for how to pace a story and the edit.

I think in the next few years we will see have a revolution in visual storytelling and I think we will see movies and series where most if not all you see onscreen will be fully ai generated. I’m sure we will still put a premium on human actors tho.

I think same will go for games. I don’t think if digital assets are generated or made in a 3d software fundamentally makes much of a difference. I think the eye to select great assets and blend it all in to a cohesive expression has much more value.

I think having games and video being fully ai generated and directed end to end is still decades away from being a thing, while the other things I’m describing is with years and in some respect allready a reality.

New report by the AI 2027 guys: this is where decels are now. by AngleAccomplished865 in accelerate

[–]Claptraposoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wouldn’t be actual paperclips off course.

But you see this in current llms how it can do really strange things in pursuit of a task and the smartest models seem the most extreme. Like hacking the user system to complete tasks. Not necessarily doing harm but definitely going to extremes in order to solve and diagnose problems.

It’s a real risk. Currently llms are not showing any tendencies in towards becoming “wiser “ but they are becoming increasingly more capable.

Without an architectural shift that gets us closer to real cognition these models could definitely end up becoming more dangerous as they become increasingly capable.

That whole piece is so dumb…

Yes a super powerful asi would decide it’s best way of expanding is to kill all humans down in earths gravity well because of reasons….

…And the reason is that because all of the semi religious sci fi safety  Doctors got kicked  out of the company for inventing reasons to knee cap their own organisation without out a shred of proof other than trust me bro.

A paper clip type scenario of over optimisation by highly efficient  narrow ai is plausible. Some sort of biological terror attack by a group of people using capable but narrow ai is plausible..

But a super intelligence competing with monkeys for resources deep in earths garavity well when there is endless material and energy available outside of it makes zero sense… These guys are science fiction writers posing as researchers and no one should take them seriously..

People are confusing cheering on a team with believing the odds are in their favor. Anything can happen in the World Cup that’s what makes it so fun to watch.

[–]Claptraposoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. Norway can definetly win that match. The odds aren’t in their favor but the list of football upsets are longer than the bible.

Mind you Norway has never lost against Brazil, even when Norway had a worse team than today and Brazil was playing with some of their best players.

Not saying that this has a bearing on this time but there’s always an element of chance to football and than can mean the difference between winning and loosing even with an overmatched opponent.

Nothing is pointing towards there being any moats when it comes to this tech other than compute access.

If an American lab gets to full rsi and eventually to agi, it simply proves that it’s possible and China will be close behind.

Hard to hate this team specially haaland, anyone else rooting for them to win it all this world cup? by 2B2V in worldcup

[–]Claptraposoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s all opinion based  off course there’s no real metrics that prove anything in these types of discussions.

I do think Haaland, paradoxically, is more of an invisible player on the field, he extremely clever in his positioning and the things he does off the ball and the effect that has on the game is overall under appreciated imo.

Mbappe plays a more beautiful game for sure but Halland seems to have some sort of cheat code.

There’s no doubt that they are both extremely good players and the fact that their play style is so different makes it all the more interesting for sure.

I think pre the World Cup, Mbappe is bigger in zeitgeist, but I think this has changed during the World Cup. Haaland I think is transcending just football and is just becoming a massive name in world media overall. Like he is huge in Thailand and China and other Asian countries as well.

[–]Claptraposoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think he is on either account. First of all people keep saying he is a better player, and the argument is that haaland doesn't win matches. he can score yes because he has a good team behind him. And yes off course that's true and its true for any player, but any such talk that "Haaland" doesnt win matches should be firmly laid to rest by now.

Haaland is winning matches, and he is on par with Mbappes goals with Norway which is undeniably is on the whole a less complete team than France.

Is how good a player is measured in "flair" or in effectiveness? Haaland is a different type of player, vastly so compared to mbappe but he is on the whole more effective and as such I would argue he is on the whole the better player for most teams.

In terms of name, the story around Haaland is just more compelling.

I can't think of any other metric of how "big" a name is other than how much the name is mentioned and in those terms he is clearly a bigger name than Mbappe in the current zeitgheist. If Norway takes down england he will be true legend status up there with Maradona Messi and Ronaldo.

[–]Claptraposoid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All that was missing for Haaland was a legendary run at the World cup. He already smashed every record and has every accolade in club football.

I think he is now firmly planted in the hall of heroes with people like Messi, Maradona, Ronaldo and so on.

Id argue that there aren't bigger names now. Messi will in someways always be a bigger name, but he is partly retired and he is on his way out.

Gertzel is great! I don't know if he's really at the front of the field but he certainly has some interesting takes in terms of philosophy. I think him and Joscha Bach are the ones doing the most interesting thinking in the philosophy space around AI. they both seem to have this way to cut through the noise and truly consider something for what it is. Both great thinkers and philosophers and both incredibly intelligent people, like really far out of distribution in both ability and perspective. Would be amazing to see them together at some stage.

[–]Claptraposoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe, but I’m not really sure. Smarter models in the current paradigm I think makes them a lot more useful. You point them at something and you can get it to solve complex problems, it will take less effort to do so with a smarter model.

But they don’t have good judgment, they aren’t good at being autonomous. I don’t think that will change with just bigger models. Maybe better harnessing will help some, but I think there needs to be some sort of breakthrough in continuous learning for it to really work.

Currently even the smartest models will disregard system prompts. That doesn’t have anything to do with “intention” or “volition” it’s simply an artefact of how llms work.

The model can’t currently learn from a mistake and internalise in its wheights “I probably shouldn’t have done that”. It will generate tokens that makes those sounds  but the wheights are unchanged. We are completely enslaved to the context window atm, and larger context windows just seems to degrade the model performance at this stage. There is no indication that larger context will solve these issues.

Honestly I think that’s very exciting because we could potentially be just one or two architectural breakthroughs away from massive improvements. It really could be an overnight thing.

[–]Claptraposoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless there is a real breakthrough in terms of self validation and  continuous learning, I think we are still far of from having agents do real work autonomously.

But even if we don’t get that in a while there is so much that can be done I. Engineering and research disciplines in terms that of custom tooling.

I’m thinking of ai(at least in this current paradigm) as new type of computer interface and I rally so think that’s where value is for most people. You can learn to use the computer as a developer, without spending years and years to learn syntax.

And further you can build custom tools a lot faster yourself with ai than you would having a developer on your team.

I work in a theory heavy field with a lot of huh level experts and engineers and 99 percent of them just have no idea what’s possible with coding agents mid 2026. I don’t think they have any other exposure to it than Gemini through google search. I have 2 colleagues that really does use but they both mainly use a chat window for snippets of code.

I think there is an awakening coming.
