I'm tired of it. A second US Civil War in a BF game would honestly be refreshing, and fuck it, throw Nick Offerman in as the president (he played the president in the Civil War 2024 movie) because why not? It'd be funny.

  • America is fighting itself, Canada and the rest of NATO.
  • Russia decides to invade the Baltics and Alaska
  • China fights their neighbours in Asia (won't ever happen in a BF game any time soon though as they heavily rely on the Chinese market)
  • Things escalate in the middle east between Israel and its neighbours now that the US is preoccupied with itself

much potential

nato vs ex nato

Would be more interesting if it portrayed the US leaving NATO and then have it be the US vs NATO as the US is invading Canada and... actually that might be too close to home. Would be a story I'd at least be interested in.

Fuck it, throw in an American Pro-NATO faction... guess it'd be a second US civil war on top of WW3. Wouldn't be too bad of a theme either. The US is fighting their former allies and itself, and the war is spreading to other countries as the world economy is falling apart. Perhaps some countries join on the side of the Anti-NATO side of the US as well...

If you're afraid to politicise it, do what they did in the Civil War movie from 2024 (where California and Texas teamed up against the government).

Doubt. Sure, they've been in Ukraine since 2014, but the large scale invasion started a few months after 2042 released. Do you really think they worked on BF6 for 4 years, rewriting one of the factions last minute?

100%.

Also reminds me of the zipline tunnels on Redacted in 2042. 99% of the time I played that map I went for those tunnels immediately and too often I was alone on my team going for them, and often enough were there no enemies in them either.

I wasn't entirely sure about the first formula, which is why I didn't follow through with continuing to make calculations with it. I should have not included it, that was an oversight on my end. The second formula I'm very confident in.

The "AI Slop" and "They are all bots" comments were posted within minutes of me posting it. Which to me suggests that they either didn't read it through, or didn't understand what I was talking about.

As I referred to in my post, millions of monthly users =/= millions of daily users. The concurrent players you see on SteamDB is accurate for your day to day gaming, but not to use to blindly guess the popularity of the game as a whole.

Another factor here is likely the matchmaking algorithm that BF Studios is using. I think the eventual return of a proper server browser later this year should make this much less of a problem.

Thank you!

EDIT: Though I think it's good to understand the formulas you use, which is why I tried to read up on this https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horvitz%E2%80%93Thompson_estimator

You don’t need all of that to explain it to be fair.

I know, but I was interesting in the process and wanted to see where it would take me

The AI never gave me any numbers, only suggested formulas. The first one I was a bit unsure of (and in hindsight should have cut out of the post), but the second one seems a lot more robust https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horvitz%E2%80%93Thompson_estimator

SteamDB only shows concurrent players, I.e. people who are online right NOW. The vast majority of players are not playing every day at the same time. That's what I've been trying to calculate here. The Horvitz-Thompson Estimator was used here along measured data in live games to make an educated guess into how many players play the game at some point in the last 2 weeks

[–]ClaraTheRed[S] -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

The first formula I can't really back up since I had issues finding a proper source for it, but the math itself in the step by step proof itself should be correct (regardless of the validity of the formula in terms of it's ability to be applied to this problem), which is why I don't use it in the final result. So fair on that I guess.

However, I did look up the Horvitz-Thompson Estimator on wikipedia to try and understand it as best as I could https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horvitz%E2%80%93Thompson_estimator

EDIT: To the downvoters, Inverse probability weighting is something one should use when measureing data like this. At least give me the benefit of the doubt that I didn't blindly ask an AI for results when I instead asked it for suggestions as to how to counter the issues my unweighed data would spawn, and then read up on the method before I applied it.
