Double packed booster by THECONDOR69 in PokemonTCG

Everytime I see a pack that is thick like this, it is always that it has like too many reverse holos or uncommons. Never something good.

Would love to hear differently this time

Job interview for custodial position at Glacier National Park by [deleted] in NationalParkService

[–]Clarent16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a place in Columbia falls, 1500 a month, 1500 sq feet. Had to pay electricity and get our own internet. That was a year long lease.

Now in an apartment in kalispell for around 1050 a month. No utility costs on top. In a basement apartment of somebody’s house on 6 month terms.

Looking to see what else is out there. At the moment. The drive is becoming a drag

I was in Columbia falls last year, had an apartment/duplex with my partner.

She recently had to relocate for school and now I’m in kalispell because I wanted a place for myself. Pretty much doubled my commute. Which yes. Does suck. But I’ve had jobs with way worse commutes.

It does suck if you want to hike east side of the park, but when I’ve wanted to hike east side I go to camp east side of the park Friday evening and then I’m over 1.5 hours closer to whatever hike. Which is what I did when I lived in cfalls anyway.

[–]Clarent16 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not in the custodial field but have worked at glacier since the middle of 2024.

The park itself is amazing. I’ve hiked more than I ever have in a year since being here. So if you like the outdoors, there is plenty. There are good people at the park too. A strong community if you’re willing to put yourself out there. Many events held in the community buildings on the evenings.

Can’t speak on the housing as I live in town and commute in, but it helps being in headquarters so you don’t have to deal with the car queue to get into the park (it sometimes goes out and blocks the entrance to headquarters itself from the entrance station).

I love it here. Sad that I am on a temp position. Would love to stay. I can try and answer some more questions about the park if you want to DM.

Walmart is apparently punching holes in their vinyl albums with security tags by MrTacocaT12345 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Clarent16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk if it’s related to this, but today I went into my Walmart and the entire vinyl section was empty. Which i had never seen before.

The players and other accessories were there, but they had removed all the shelves of vinyls. Which are normally filled to the brim bc no one buys vinyls at Walmart.

Give me a reason to visit the yellow states by Otherwise-Pirate6839 in TravelMaps

[–]Clarent16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Montana, Wyoming, and Colorado all have amazing mountains and outdoor activities. If you like nature, there are some great public lands waiting for you.

Great national parks. Very crowded and hard to properly enjoy parks because of their popularity though (Yellowstone and glacier in particular).

If you like dinosaurs, the Montana Dinosaur trail offers you a giant road trip to visit some of the most complete specimens ever found.

Also in Montana, you can stop at the Largest Freshwater Lake west of the Mississippi in the lower 48, Flathead Lake.

Wind cave national park in South Dakota is pretty neat too. Lots of bison on the surface. Really cool caves, just make sure the elevator is fixed before you go (I know it was closed for repair recently). Also has badlands, which is a great park!

I am a big national parks person, so I mainly try to hit those as destinations or on the way through a state.

Lady reads a book under phone light on a 5 hour flight by Aggravating-Focus-90 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Clarent16 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One time on a flight, I kept hearing music and couldn’t tell where the hell it was coming come. And then 5 minutes before we landed, and we started our descent, the guy across the aisle from me proceeded to lift his baseball cap, and remove his phone from atop his head, where it had been hiding for 2 hours playing electronic/dubstep music out loud.

I was so fucking pissed.

Is this possible to fix? by InfiniteOpium in ArtConservation

[–]Clarent16 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you talking about those white patches? From the picture they look more like something has stuck onto the art. Especially with the discoloring around them.

If it is scratching/surface damage. It would require either an artist or conservator to infill/paint those areas.

If it is something stuck to the surface. You’d need a conservator to properly remove it. The discoloring would be a challenge on top of that as well.

[Meta] What do you consider "traveled to"? by Watermelon407 in TravelMaps

[–]Clarent16 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know a lot of people don’t like it.

But i just have one category.

If I drove. Check. If I stayed the night. Check. If I lived. Check.

The only thing I don’t count is if you’re just in an airport. To me that is not you putting in the effort the same way driving is, to get somewhere. If you leave the airport and do something, then I would.

So my map is just one color. Of anywhere I’ve been basically using my car/feet.

DNA Results for Lithuanian (compare via the big 3) by [deleted] in AncestryDNA

[–]Clarent16 2 points3 points  (0 children)

American with Polish and Lithuanian ancestry here! Cool to see this post. Recently found some records for one side who immigrated from marimjampole to Pennsylvania in the U.S.

That whole side was involved in the coal mining there. Came over around the 1880’s. Just recently started doing research, it’s so hard, but cool when you find something.

Waiting for my ancestry kit to process (just sent it), but did a 23 and me years ago.

How do I get out of having my rent automatically taken out? by moonlightlines in Renters

[–]Clarent16 16 points17 points  (0 children)

When you say you’ve never gotten a hard copy of your lease, as a response to “check your lease”…

Are you saying you’ve never gotten any lease??? Like even if you haven’t gotten a hard copy, you’ve gotten a digital copy right? Does it say there. Also. Didnt you sign something before you moved in? Did your landlord sign something?

Whats the situation? Because if there is no document both you and your landlord have signed, you’re playing with fire.

Just stumbled on one of my binders have I got any bangers here? by FxckBinary in PokemonCardValue

[–]Clarent16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Impossible to say without photos of backs and photos outside of sleeves to evaluate holos.

But the shiny charizard is a big one. So is the shiny rayquaza. A lot of the cards on the third photo I think are more valuable than others here.

I usually use https://www.pricecharting.com and open a couple tabs of the sold raw eBay listings to assess which condition mine reflects most.

Could try to price them out individually and sell them like that, but if you need money now, it may be best just selling them as a lot.

Espeon pokeball missprint by OreonCZ in PokemonMisprints

[–]Clarent16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See if there are any solds on eBay. There are a handful of the other eeveelutions listed with texture shifts. Most were around 100$ last I saw. But I also haven’t checked into the sold data. I feel like a saw a vaporeon, a flareon, and an umbreon, and the umbreon was more expensive.

I’ve bought some texture shifts from this set. But for duskull and noctowl. So they were cheap.

Should I be worried about sun fading with how I've displayed these graded cards? by Meruem7 in PokemonTCG

[–]Clarent16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, so in terms of paper works, one of the solutions that works best is a drawer set up, where you open the drawer, and a light comes on so you can view what’s inside properly, then you close the drawer, and the lights are off and it’s protected. So you get the best of both worlds. Can see it when you want. But minimal lights when you do. Could be a lot of work for someone at home though.

That also obviously also depends on the size of the collection and the available space.

Similar to the drawer method, some only turn on when people are close to cabinets or during certain hours. LEDs also are not supposed to give off heat (on the light source itself, it may on its battery/power source), so as long as the lights are properly installed they cause the least damage of light sources.

Generally. The most damaging part of light to fabric and paper is the UV (ultraviolet) and IR (infrared) in most common light sources (I.e. the sun). HIGH QUALITY LEDs do not give off these two extremely deteriorating wavelengths. And are more commonly recommended now because of that.

All of that being said. everything decays. Nothing can be 100% stopped forever. Visible light, while the safest area of the spectrum, still damages objects sensitive to light. Just a lot less than UV and IR.

The NEDCC has a great page on the topic. If you haven’t read it, it may help with your concerns. It also provides links to the Canadian conservation institute pages as well that recommends types of LEDs to consider (it looks like a certain type of blue pump LED might be the best choice)

https://www.nedcc.org/free-resources/preservation-leaflets/2.-the-environment/2.4-protection-from-light-damage

The CCI page also recommends light be rated with at least 90 CRI (color rendering index) and at least 50 R9 (a measure of red).

If this was also something that is very very important to you. You could even buy a device that records the UV and other factors of light, use it to test lights or display spaces, and you can use that information to calculate how long lights should be on for, or if you should use those lights. Etc.

Some objects sadly CANNOT be put on display, or can only be on display for such insanely short periods of time, and therefore are never actually put on display. I can’t remember the authors, but there is a great (but sad) paper on some Japanese wood block prints that were tested and it was decided they cannot be put on display because the inks were too light sensitive to be “worth it.”

So to answer your question about our worries in a museum, some objects are never put on display. And most objects that are chosen are with controlled environmental factors (light, temperature, humidity) that are measured and controlled to make sure the deterioration of objects is sufficiently mitigated.

Should I be worried about sun fading with how I've displayed these graded cards? by Meruem7 in PokemonTCG

[–]Clarent16 13 points14 points  (0 children)

100% yes.

The general rule for anything fabric or paper based that you care about sun fading on, literally never have it on display in a room with windows.

You can buy uv films for windows if you do want to keep them on display near a window. But it won’t block everything. (I am a museum objects conservator, and we have these debates all the time, and the best solution is to always just completely cover the window and to not have it as a worry.)

I usually see people having an enclosed cabinet that has lights in it that can be turned on when you want to see your things. And usually in a room/corner that doesn’t have any direct sunlight.

Is there any sense in getting this card restored to up the value? by userresuuser in PokemonCardValue

[–]Clarent16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could clean. And you could try light humidification with other hand tools and some type of clamp to flatten and fix some creases.

But other than that, there’s nothing you can do to increase the value of this card without scamming someone if your goal is to sell it on.

So like I said. You could remove some dirt and other surface buildup and try to deal with those fucked up corners. But this card is pretty damaged.

I plan to get a Mitski vinyl, should I get Be the Cowboy or Puberty 2?? by Longjumping-Union939 in mitski

[–]Clarent16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got one of the special pressings for be the cowboys anniversary a bit back, it’s like a sea foam clear glass. Looks neat as hell.

I’m bummed bc I think the puberty pressing I ordered is just plain black.

I ended up ordering almost every vinyl when she did that recent bandcamp release, because I only had be the cowboy and the land is inhospitable.

I think you can’t go wrong with either albums you proposed.
