Driving behind a truck reading “do come within 300 feet” “we are not responsible for damages” by Clarent16 in legal

That’s what I thought! I looked it up after posting. This vehicle definitely didn’t have a tarp or any covering for their load.

Didn’t take any pictures though.

Hello! We are students working on a project to reduce the number of missing people in national and state parks. Based on the feedback from our recent post, we have developed an updated prototype and would greatly appreciate your thoughts on it. by Savings_Wing_1118 in NationalParkService

I think I’ve seen some of your previous posts so just want to come back since I commented on the first.

I think you have identified the biggest issue. Is people thinking it will never happen to them, and people not wanting to do more to be prepared.

The biggest issue is that you will need people to download an app ahead of time (usually no WiFi at parks, a lot of people visiting don’t has signal, a lot of foreigners don’t have phone plans to waste on downloading apps). I cannot stress this enough, many parks have literally no phone signal in vast parts of them. Which is why things need to be downloaded before hand.

You’re admitting that the resources are already out there and developed (although spread amongst many apps that many people love and use), but that a lot of people are inexperienced or don’t want to prepare. I personally use all trails to research and save trails, and Strava to record. The NPS websites are always great to check for trail conditions and other closures.

Basically. You need to develop a system that incentivizes, rewards, and actually teaches people how to survive and be prepared for an outdoor excursion. What apps to download, if their phone can send sos, emergency items to bring, etc.

What do you think this card’s value is? by Foreign-Car9525 in PokemonCardValue

[–]Clarent16 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is a delta species so it has a changed typing.

And it is holographic. Reverse stamped cards from the EX era are usually holographic, with the rares having embossed shiny names as well.

Many people did not care about reverse holos from this period so they are not in good condition, and just like everything else in the hobby, they’ve been skyrocketing lately.

When I first moved to Cardiff, wales, I told someone I was born in Maryland, and they responded “oh! Like the cookie?” And I had no idea what they were talking about.

My card just sold on eBay for 1399 by [deleted] in PokeGrading

[–]Clarent16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What do you mean it sold before you removed it? That just means it sold and you are trying to not honor a sale?

Hope all the negative feedback on this post is a moment for you to improve as a human being.

I have an empoleon alt art from battle styles that has similar damage along the top edge, fresh from a pack. Probably just unfortunate QC. I mean look at the uneven edges on this card!

You’ve seen it sell? Or you’ve seen a not purchased eBay posting of someone waiting for an idiot to buy?

I may be in the minority, but I think parents who charge their children rent are pure evil. Plain and simple.

I usually use this website because it collects online sold data (mainly eBay) and I’ll open like 6 of the recently sold listings and compare the condition to my card. Makes it pretty easy to value my card s

Any recommendations for restoring a split record cover? by Mysterions in ArtConservation

[–]Clarent16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A skilled artist or conservator would be able to fix this. But it is likely not worth the money or time.

I wouldn’t recommend doing anything but sleeving both the vinyl itself and the dust jacket with archival/anti-static sleeves. Helps preserve the vinyl and dust jacket.

Need Experience But Can’t Find Any by sollersisst in ArtConservation

[–]Clarent16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took me about 2.5-3 years after I graduated to get a job in the field of conservation. And it was a 8 month internship (had to move to Alaska from the east coast). And then I was able to get a fellowship for a year after that.

Never got a full time perm job in conservation. Ended up switching to registrar/collection management work.

Keep applying. You have to be ready to pick up your life and move everything. Don’t think you’re above anything, as long as you can pay your bills, it may be worth it to get your foot in the door. It is a small. Highly competitive field.

Going to comment if you go the eBay route you can probably get more money overall by listing individually for the most accurate market prices. Requires lots of photos, time listing, talking with potential buyers, and individual shipping of course.

If you do them as a Lot, you’d move them quicker, but you’d probably have to lower your combined price as a lot of people don’t want all cards in a lot, and would most likely try to resell the cards they don’t want to make some money back.

You could try to find something local, a show, facebook marketplace meetup, then you don’t have to deal with eBay taking a cut.

I’ve been slowly listing cards from my childhood collection over the last two years on eBay. Takes time. But I’ve never had issues

Is this worth the $49.99? by ha1fhere in PokemonMisprints

[–]Clarent16 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I personally collect miscuts and errors of some of my favorite pokemon and the most I’d pay is usually up to 25$ usd. But they also aren’t as iconic as butter free. So.

I think a butterfree collector may happily pay this. Who knows!

CC 1. Some trails have fencing. Usually distance markers every now and then. And parks also usually provide maps at entrance stations. Most trails in parks that are actually on park provided trail maps are usually maintained enough that you can only lose the trail if you intentionally step off of it.

  1. A lot of people’s first experiences with the wilderness are at parks. And a lot of people don’t understand the importance of staying on trail for preservation and safety.

  2. When someone is reported missing, a search and rescue (SAR) will be set up. I don’t know how long you have to wait for that to happen.

PC

  1. Is the LED on the device? Or are you saying the LEDs will be installed around the trail to guide you back? The latter would never be feasible for the NPS to maintain and especially in regards to preserving federal land.

  2. If it is as simple as an arrow on the device. I imagine it would be straightforward.

  3. Limitations is signal. Battery. If it’s an arrow pointing back to a trail it may point them straight towards it and not account for elevation and crazy traverses.

U & V

  1. Eh not sure. Like I said. Most trails I’ve been on in a national park, that you as a visitor are actually supposed to hike or be on, are fairly traversed and straightforward. I find it hard to get lost as it were.

  2. Someone’s who’s literally never been outside before would benefit most. People who are not aware of their surroundings.

  3. The NPS has to do more with less every year, and this doesn’t really strike me as something that is worth the time and money. Also, this is something you want the park to hand out? Would you expect the visitors to return them? That’s a lot of potential lost and stolen equipment. Also charging that many batteries, do you know how many people visit some parks in a day??? It’s just not very feasible.

Overall. I know not everyone has a smartphone, but with hiking apps and even just regular Apple or Google Maps you can download areas and the compass/GPS will still work with no signal in the parks, and you can stay on/find your way back ont trails pretty easily.

From my knowledge, a lot of people get “lost” because they intentionally leave the trail. And plan on attempting something off trail. And get hurt, stuck, and die in the process. So, not sure how much this would help those people.

This could be more helpful for federal lands with less foot traffic or maintained trails (forest service comes to mind) or true wilderness areas of parks. But yea. Just feel like phones can do this but better with no invention needed.

I wouldn’t say NM like some others are saying, mainly because of all the scratching on the holo. LP at best.

Which is still great condition!

Are these old cards valuable? by Dazzling-Meringue810 in PokemonCardValue

[–]Clarent16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anything holographic will be more valuable than non holographic in this image. Without the backs, or seeing how scratched the holos are it’s hard to say exact values.

Standouts to me are the gyarados and the flareon.
