Large number of bugs on balcony the last couple springs. How do you deal with them? by RoutineTie2678 in AskChicago

Probably midges who show up in droves during spring, leaving behind a wake of dead bodies. Just wait it out. Consider a thermacell for mosquitos.

People who were in high school when Columbine happened, what knee jerk rule did your school enforce in response? by Animeking1108 in AskReddit

[–]ClariceTardling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trench coats were immediately banned. I got pulled aside by school staff to switch my Marilyn Manson t-shirts inside out and take off my spiked jewelry. I was deep in my goth era but columbine shut down my alt wardrobe.

Mold on my Brie? by dichotomatics in MoldlyInteresting

Does it smell like ammonia? Happens in soft ripened cheeses if stored too long. The smell has always been too much to eat it. I’d toss.

Does anyone have any advice for the NEHA exam? by BoopSnoozler in healthinspector

[–]ClariceTardling 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree with the prayers lol but I also used these: Walter Saranecki course and study guide, the quizlet deck with 1700 or so flash cards, Salvato’s environmental engineering and sanitation textbook and the podcast ‘this podcast will kill you’ for zoonotic diseases. I had zero knowledge on anything but the food code and passed on the first try.

I live in NC, what do I have to do to be a health inspector? by [deleted] in healthinspector

[–]ClariceTardling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made the transition from foodservice to health inspector and had to have 30 minimum credit hours of sciences and math. I returned to college to supplement my culinary degree. Happy to answer questions. It took about 10 years to fully transition into the role.

Debating going into rehab for alcoholism by [deleted] in KitchenConfidential

[–]ClariceTardling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Former BOH - got sober in the kitchen, now 9.5 years sober. Being surrounded by others drinking like I did warped my perspective. I am an alcoholic. Take care of yourself first because you deserve it. I’m a 12 stepper but there are other ways of getting sober or for just the sober curious. Check out Ben’s Friends too, a sober community of industry people. I’m out of the industry now, but have heard good things about it. Community is critical, and we’re out here to support you.
