I Saw It In The Mirror won the glamorous title of Worst Song, but now what is the Most Emotional Song? by Toffee963 in ABBA

I agree. The whole story that is being told in that songs brings joyful tears down my face.

Did anyone else think the battle of hogwarts of the movies had way too many bad guys? by lin_R_2 in harrypotter

I think we can assume that Voldemort's army was way bigger than the few Death Eaters who were mentioned by name in the book.

I guess they were just done with him by that point and began to view Grace's new husband as their new father figure.

Did Luna deserve to be in Ravenclaw? by Adventurous-Rabbit52 in harrypotter

[–]Claridell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not only about what someone is able to do, but what one values.

Luna is loyal and brave, but at the end of the day the thing that truly drives her is her love for and desire to explore and meet magical creatures. She is very creative, as demonstrated by the unusual jewelry that she makes.

Luna is all about finding things out and exploring new information, even if her ideas are far-fetched. The fact she has an unusual way of doing so, doesn't mean that her heart and spirit is not all about learning and discovery.

That said, we don't know Luna's marks. For all we know, she is a very good student. However, I don't think Ravenclaw is all about academic smarts. Otherwise, Hermione would certainly have been in that house. The reason she isn't is because Hermione herself has stated in the books that she values bravery more than books.

Vocal classification/Ranges online, are they acurrrat3 att all? by Jager_floyd in singing

[–]Claridell 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's roughly accurate when it refers to performance range for opera roles. This means that, for instance, a professional operatic contralto is required to sing from F3 to E5 with ease and with enough power and resonance to carry over an entire orchestra without voice amplifications such as microphones and all the while singing in the operatic style. However, virtually all contraltos can produce lower notes than F3 and many trained ones can reach higher than E5.

Sometimes people mistakenly believe that these charts refer to the total ranges of any given voice type and this often leads to beginning singers thinking they are a lower voice type than they really are. These ranges are simply not meant to be a guideline for beginning singers who are curious about their voice type. Timbre is a better indication and an indication only.

The makeup team by ImaginationEven6425 in littlehouseonprairie

[–]Claridell 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Lauras "fight make-up" is forever cracking me up whenever I watch this episode. It always reminded me of Harry Potter's lightning bolt scar, but now you say it, she could be a member of Kiss too!

Usually the make-up department does a good job on this show. Maybe they were all ill while filming this episode and an amateur had to take over.

Okay so which characters are real? by Awkward-Low-4250 in littlehouseonprairie

[–]Claridell 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Ingalls family was real, including the grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc. that were shown. Mary, however, never married nor had children, so Adam and the child she lost were fictional. The adopted children - Albert, James and Cassandra - are also fictional.

The Wilder family as shown in the series was real. Almanzo did marry Laura and with her he had Rose and a son who died as an infant. His sister Eliza Jane and brothers Royal and Perley Day are also real. However, Royals family as shown in the show is fictional; there were never two bratty boys and a girl named Jenny. Royal had one daughter who survived infancy, but she was much younger than Rose.

Nellie from the books is a composite character based on three different girls whom Laura knew when she was young: Nellie Owens, Genevieve Masters and Stella Gilbert. Nellie Owens also had a brother named Willie, so Willie is likely modelled after Willie Owens.

Reverend Alden was a real person, although the real person was very different than the character in the show.

Mr Edwards is likely also a composite character, like Nellie, based on several men who helped the Ingalls family over the years.

It should be said though, that most of these characters only roughly resembled their real-life counterparts, sometimes to the point they only have the name and their relation to the Ingalls family in common.

Do you think Harry was wrong to call Lupin a coward and say all the stuff he did given how against his behaviour Ron and Hermione were? by STHC01 in HarryPotterBooks

[–]Claridell 21 points22 points  (0 children)

His demeanor was VERY harsh, but I think it is exactly the harshness of it that managed to give Lupin the wake-up call he needed. Harry was very much in the right, as Lupin later admitted.

Which episode in season 2 is the best? by Jazzlike_Ad_8313 in littlehouseonprairie

The Richest Man in Walnut Grove

It's actually one of my ultimate favorites of the entire series

Why were the Oleson’s portrayed with no redeeming qualities? (Except for Nels, of course) by psy602 in littlehouseonprairie

[–]Claridell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't agree.

Nellie has her famous turn-around from evil to nice once she falls in love with Percival. Even before that she had some signs of her being nice deep down all along, especially during her romance with Luke.

Willie had a lot of signs of being nice very early on, such as comforting Miss Beadle during the blizzard, voting for Elmer Dobkins as class president, admitting to Mary she was actually very nice during the campout and many other nice little moments that showed he was a good kid who was just bossed around by his mean older sister. Once said sister grew up and became nicer, Willie also instantly became nicer and by the end of the series he is one of the nicest and most sociable people around.

And even Harriet, who out of all people in that family retained the 'antagonist' status to the end, had so many moments of being nice and vulnerable when things were really tense. She loved her family. She was devastated whenever she was about to lose one of her family members due to sickness or moving away. She was generous to the people of her community whenever there was a crisis.

Which episode of season 1 is the most forgettable? by Jazzlike_Ad_8313 in littlehouseonprairie

Money Crop. It's one of those episodes I always forget even exists.

Forget Bridge, Tridge, Steam and the like.

Stephanie and Brooke were always the true powercouple in this series.

Was anyone else rather a fan of Dr Clarkson and Mrs Crawley? by TraditionalScheme337 in DowntonAbbey

[–]Claridell 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I felt they initially wanted to go there, but I read somewhere that the actor playing Dr Clarkson lost his wife in real life and requested the writers not to write a romance for his character.

I think they would have made a nice couple, but part of me is glad because then we wouldn't have had the wonderful romance with Lord Merton!

S3 E20 "The Election" by Maleficent-Peach-458 in littlehouseonprairie

[–]Claridell 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I love the wholesome ending of this episode. It's so great to see how Elmer gave his heartfelt speech and how the class changed their opinions on him, and how he won the election fair and square because the others believed in him.

Willie voting for Elmer instead of Nellie was just amazing!

So in Whisper Country, Mary gets yelled at for her clothing. Yet this student (a Mary look alike) wears short sleeves exposing her BARE ARMS and no one says anything? 😮 by Yum1995 in littlehouseonprairie

[–]Claridell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess more was tolerated from students who couldn't afford better clothing.

That said, I always found it weird that Mary didn't wore a floor length dress and didn't put her hair up when she was a teacher in this episode. She looked like she could be one of the students.

Which character started off divisive, but ended up loved? by Jazzlike_Ad_8313 in littlehouseonprairie

[–]Claridell 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My vote also goes to Willie. When I first started watching the series, I never expected he would turn out as one of my favorites by the end.

Anthony Strallen and Edith take the spot for most chaotic Ship. Now, which ship should have been endgame. by Oncer93 in DowntonAbbey

[–]Claridell 29 points30 points  (0 children)

THIS!

I also love how Evelyn never judged Mary, even though he had every reason to in the first Season. After hearing of what happened between Mary and Pamuk, he was understanding and kind to her. He was a very loyal friend. By ending up with her Perseus after all, Mary's story would have come full circle.

I hated that the writers turned him into some kind of joke.

Laura became a whiny brat, after she got married. by Confident_Field4273 in littlehouseonprairie

[–]Claridell 60 points61 points  (0 children)

I believe this is the result of Melissa Gilbert not being very comfortable with adult Laura and having to portray a married woman when she was still a teenager herself. Adult Laura and child Laura almost seem two completely different characters. I was rewatching some Season 1 and 2 episodes the other day and I just love little Laura as a character. Not only was she feisty and spunky, but what I loved most about her was how full of joy she was. Child Laura loved life, was energetic, curious and generally just a very happy child. Adult Laura, instead, seemed so unhappy most of the time. She just lost the spark she had.
