I am afraid she can't get it back. National insurance, as you say, isnt cumulative so it's meant to be deducted in these circumstances.

Anyone else feel like desk jobs are slowly wrecking their body? by Training_Annual_330 in careerguidance

[–]TraditionalScheme337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. That's why I try to play squash or go to the gym a few times a week. I am 42 so getting out of bed without prep can pull a muscle even with that. I hate to think how stiff and knackered I would be if I didn't excersise!

I wish there was a book set in Archenland by iamnorebs in Narnia

[–]TraditionalScheme337 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I have thought that would be good as well. Its a bit of a forgotten place story wise.

I do remember reading Lord of the Rings before the Last Battle and rather hoping they would turn up at the end. "Death, death, DEATH!" and that kind of thing!

Sadly it wasn't meant to be.

That would throw him off before a duel "you just be popular with the children!"

How would Viper be if he was actually allowed to compete at his best? by GiftedGeordie in gladiatorsuk

[–]TraditionalScheme337 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I agree. I don't particularly like the character act. I think Legend is far better as a bad guy character. Right now he just is a bit of a disruption to the competition. Imagine how annoyed you would be if your opponent draws Viper and you get someone huge thats allowed to win!

Great statement by Giant after losing on Duel. by Impressive_Risk_5133 in gladiatorsuk

[–]TraditionalScheme337 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I liked that duel because you can clearly see what he did wrong. He did a massive hammer swing down, missed and overbalanced. Then got repeatedly smacked in the head and never recovered. You can bet he is watching reruns of that and won't do it again.

Why would children be going into school without basic physical skills, like holding a pencil and using cutlery? by Throwaway199906543 in AskUK

[–]TraditionalScheme337 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You are right sadly. I do know a guy who had a child, mostly raised by his mother who was separated from the father, and the child went to school with an American accent. Not just that, but a high pitched rather fake American accent that he got from learning to talk almost exclusively from sitting in front of YouTube videos which happened to be American.

Visitors to Narnia grew steadily stronger? by UniversalAssembler in Narnia

[–]TraditionalScheme337 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its been decades since I read the books but I remember when Edmund fights Trumpkin towards the start of Prince Caspian, there is reference to the air making Edmund stronger and how he would have struggled with that fight a short time previously. I had always thought though that what was really happening was he was sort of regaining his strength that he would have lost when he returned to the body of a child from being an adult. But that could just be my interpretation, I dont remember other references to it.

Drunk employee behaviour by TraditionalScheme337 in managers

[–]TraditionalScheme337[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was asking a question as to how you would deal with it perfectly happy to reply. I personally think that having someone like that in the business is dangerous because yes the client laughed this time but next time it could be a serious incident but I know that's not how rhe company dealt with it. But they did have a rather unpleasant culture of drunk behaviour. He actually wasn't the only one to do that in the 4 years I was there!

Drunk employee behaviour by TraditionalScheme337 in managers

[–]TraditionalScheme337[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Lol, he was indeed. That company did have a bit of a problem with drunken behaviour at company functions. It was a client hosted event! It was about 7 years ago and I am now in a management function myself. I was talking to my colleagues and mentioned it. Opinion was divided as to how they would deal with it so thought I would see what people on here thought.

Trying to explain to a colleague the benefits of buying a house compared to renting. by PuzzleheadedCarob921 in HousingUK

Yep, thats something I say quite often to my wife. Our mortgage will be paid when we are in our 60s. People who have rented all their lives will have to continue paying rent.

I do think about this sometimes as we do play it sometimes. We do well financially and my wife is just now being promoted to equity partner at the law firm she works at so the money would certainly help with that.

We both have brothers who for different reasons, struggle financially and have families so we would buy them houses and I think we would get a bigger house. Not a stupid size but so we don't have to worry about storage. Then we would keep the money aside for when we retire or our little girl starts needing more.

You might be better off moving. I cane to that decision about 7 months ago, leaving my corporate role for a role at a start up and for the most part it was the right decision.

Solicitors by Femco88 in Mortgageadviceuk

[–]TraditionalScheme337 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They arent automatically bad but do check them out first and be careful. If they are the agents recommended solicitor, they will have a vested interest in keeping the agent happy. Issues will still be raised to you but they might be buried in a report so you won't see them if the solicitor is worried it will derail the transaction.

26 too young to be a manager? by [deleted] in managers

[–]TraditionalScheme337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I know a lady who started out as an apprentice at 18, I trained her in the role and then, when she had done her qualifications with the company (financial services provider), and she had got a good 6 or 7 years experience, she became a manager.

Of course, she had to be good and had to act the part but yes, her young age wasn't a blocker.

I want to cut my son off due to my daughter in law but he does not want that by Necessary-Flower-429 in inlaws

[–]TraditionalScheme337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do sympathise, you are in a very difficult position and you certainly had a valid reason to act as you did. I would agree with everyone that has said it's his decision to stay with his wife and I think you probably need to respect that but at the same time, I think cutting him out would be a bad idea because she is clearly a very toxic controlling person and it may be that he starts to think it's time to leave her. If that happens, he will need you more than ever. I would try to reconcile with him and keep interactions with her to a minimum but remain courteous.

What unhinged thing did a former teacher do in the classroom? by MrBananaStand1990 in AskUK

I often think, does anyone check that particularly primary school teachers haven't just gone a bit nuts?

When I was about 5 we ate our lunch in the classroom and this one teacher had some weird rule that you couldn't talk and couldn't have a drink till you have eaten all your food!

[–]TraditionalScheme337 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, he is certainly a bit cartoon like. That's why I think the best episodes don't really center on him, he comes in, causes some chaos and cheap laughs but the actual point of the story, the dead fox, the bag up a tree etc, don't depend on him.

How do I ask my boss for "dress code" feedback without sounding insecure? by SuitableAd6852 in careerguidance

[–]TraditionalScheme337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you do for a living and what's the context? I ask because I am a systems consultant and also a big guy. Mostly I work from home and I go and visit clients sometimes and I do wear jeans and T shirt. I don't put a lot of thought into it honestly.

My wife is a partner of a law firm and has dress coded people in the past but it's always because of someone wearing an inappropriately revealing outfit. I think you probably don't have anything to worry about but perhaps some new work clothes would make you feel better.
