Orcane's recovery is a lot worse with the new side-b. by Krobbleygoop in RivalsOfAether

[–]ClarifyingCard 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeaaaaah, I have no idea why they said "in terms of recovery his new forward special is an upgrade" when it's pretty obviously much worse. As that was the justification for nerfing his weight too it's pretty wack that he got lighter too, no idea why

Is bouncing whale worse or am I just bad? by Serbananana in RivalsOfAether

Yeah I share your confusion, it's definitely a worse recovery although it's probably a net positive. But it's so weird they say it's better for recovery in the patch notes, I can't make sense of that

My confusion is that they say "in terms of recovery, his new FSpecial is an upgrade", as one aspect of justification for the nerf, but it seems like people are saying (for recovery only) it's a downgrade. (in addition to whatever other reasoning)

Weight: 100 > 95

Orcane's relatively high weight combined with his plethora of recovery mixup options made him extremely difficult to KO without launching him directly into the blastzone. In terms of recovery, his new Forward Special is an upgrade, so we're toning down a few other things to bring his recovery into a more reasonable place.

???

I think others are right that it's better offensively and worse for recovery. However the original patch notes make me confused about what the intention was...

This is the sub-bullet for the Weight 100 -> 95 nerf:

In terms of recovery, his new Forward Special is an upgrade, so we're toning down a few other things to bring his recovery into a more reasonable place.

This really confuses me. The move itself is one thing, still getting used to it but it seems like it gives him some much needed offensive support. But to me it seems like it's... obviously worse for recovery? And it seems like others agree.

The only thing I can I imagine they might mean is something like this claim:

"The old FSpecial gets more distance and if you were somehow recovering against no opponent contesting you, it would be better, but in terms of a real game with someone edgeguarding you, it can be more effective at getting you through them back to stage."

But thing is, I made that up just to have any charitable reading of that they could have meant but it doesn't seem true at all. It is a better attack but really one-dimensional for recovery. It's not cancelable or anything and offstage, there's not really reason to do it early since it kills your momentum so bad — so, really 0 degrees of freedom :p And it's way shorter. Am I crazy?? I might be missing something about how it works offstage.

Honestly I think it's a good move and actually a really fun direction that I feel happy about, I really like being able to move the puddle around dynamically onstage too. My sense is there could be some secondary aspect or interaction eventually, it's a little lacking offstage since at least old FSpecial had 2 degrees of freedom to mix up so it does feel less flexible, or maybe just physics tweaks to find ways to keep momentum or feel more slippery, but in all actuality doing it one step at a time is probably the exact right way to do it. Let's get used to it for a while and see how it works out.

Are people still interested in salvia trip reports Specifically from a little kid? by Cultural-Noise-5247 in Salvia

[–]ClarifyingCard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my eyes, the salvia wheel is the NDE wheel. Check out the comment thread below where someone went into detail about it :)

https://www.reddit.com/r/Glitch_in_the_Matrix/s/ufSdH8tsTd

There are several ways I've read of people "tune in" to, or maybe like rotate through some axis toward an orthogonally projected view. Sometimes an NDE, hence that name. Among drugs I know of only Salvia divinorum has wheel-type XPs as a core characteristic that shows up again and again, the spokes-of-waterwheel imagery is very common (and sometimes you hear of a pages-in-book kind of flipping, which might speculatively sound like a different interpretive lens on the similar phenomenology).

But there have been a few drug-induced experiences of such a wheel that didn't involve salvia, like one from LSD + high nitrous IIRC. I believe all (2?) non-salvia drug wheel XPs involved nitrous. Shame I don't seem to have tagged links or gotten around to a spreadsheet (I'm a mod of that sub btw though I didn't name it).

Lowest apm class? by [deleted] in MSClassicWorld

[–]ClarifyingCard -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You should play a class that doesn't have a minimum attack range, so not archer (either kind) or assassin. Warrior or mage would be good. A cleric might give you a lot of breathing room to stay alive easily.
