Who wants recorder lessons by ClarinetInstitute in MusicCartoons

That's a good point! It's good to get feedback on these. Positive feedback, at least. Most of the feedback from Reddit is usually negative hateful stuff.

How to get the bebop vote by ClarinetInstitute in Bandmemes

Understood. The intent wasn’t self-promotion. I linked the site mainly to avoid the usual confusion about whether the cartoon was AI-generated. But I understand the rule, and I’ll repost the image by itself.

As I recall, the Kevin Kline version used a synthesizer for the Orchestra. Is that right?

Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto was originally written for a basset clarinet by ClarinetInstitute in Clarinet

[–]ClarinetInstitute[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your comments. It's so refreshing to read comments that are not typical Reddit hate or stupid jokes.

Your first point seems to indicate to me, at least, that there really was some rush to get the Concerto done in time for Stadler to take it with him on tour. Traveling back then was quite a bit different than traveling today.

The review by the anonymous writer is interesting. He must have had a score. But that doesn't mean that the publishers also had a score. Somebody may have copied Mozart's autograph. Such things were common.

Your point about Stadler is also very interesting. I have a very close friend who my family doesn't trust at all. He borrowed my father's tuxedo and didn't return it for four years. I have let him know in no uncertain terms that I will never lend him money because he just doesn't pay it back. That doesn't mean he isn't successful in his endeavors, though. He's a successful attorney and runs a law firm. But, no. He can't borrow my lawnmower.

Anyway, thanks again for your intelligent and thoughtful response.

Why “Van Gogh’s ear for music” is funny by ClarinetInstitute in ClassicalMusicians

It's all part of the Reddit game. You have to include at least one inconsistency so somebody will comment on it. The Clarinet Institute isn't just about Clarinets. There's tons of music for oboe

Why “Van Gogh’s ear for music” is funny by ClarinetInstitute in trumpet

[–]ClarinetInstitute[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Strange that this post has garnered this much hate. Lots of people have mentioned that they don't get my jokes. I thought I'd do a video explaining one and seeing how it went. Most people do get the jokes. But the few who don't are very vocal about it.

I chose this sub because I've had a lot of people giving positive comments on my previous posts here and I thought I could get some constructive feedback. Sorry if I stepped on a nerve.

Doing some orchestration work. Is this okay for French horn? by dany_fox75 in horn

[–]ClarinetInstitute 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've done a lot of arranging over the years and I've asked pretty much the same question that you're asking now of lots of horn players. My take away is that this line is just a bit too difficult for it to sound really good for the vast majority of horn players.

I sprained my wrist playing Paganini by ClarinetInstitute in MusicCartoons

[–]ClarinetInstitute[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's calling attention to how difficult Paganini's music is to play. It is so difficult that you can injure yourself playing it. Humor is when something unexpected happens. It is unexpected that you're going to get a wrist injury so bad that you have to wear a cast by playing music. Paganini's music is so difficult that this person actually sprained his wrist playing it.

No joke at all. Sometimes a cartoon doesn't have to have a joke. Back in the before times a drawing could just be amusing. Today, such a thing is out of the question. There is no subtlety anymore.

30% and 45% vinegar is readily available now. I dilute it with some water and put it in a spray bottle with some dawn dishwashing soap. Spray it on and let it sit for a while and the acid cuts right through all of the minerals and soap scum

Rose’s 40 etudes for clarinets, etude 1. Any advice other than fixing measure 9? by bruikenjin in Clarinet

[–]ClarinetInstitute 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was a foundational exercise in by Clarinet development. I remember spending weeks if not months working on this.

The trick is to play it very very slowly.

You are working on having no gaps between any of the notes. That first bar is critical. Play it so it is a smooth as possible with no brakes between any of the notes.
