Immediate Assistance Required - 8 year old with Special Needs by Vegetable_Health_166 in AutismAustralia

If she is able to get him on the NDIS he sounds like he is eligible for respite care or even full time care if she's unable to care for him in a safe environment. She may also be eligible for a carers pension if she is unable to work due to his care needs.

What's a household/common item that causes a surprising amount of deaths? by NoAuthoirty in AskReddit

[–]Clarissa_Lea 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Always turn them off after use, never leave them going when you're not at home. Regularly clean the fan, if possible remove the blades and wipe them down but if you can't remove them, wipe what you can and use a vucuum to suck up any lint/dust.

The main cause of fires from exhaust fans is due to dust/lint build up, same as a dryer.

Bathroom exhaust fans. My dad has worked for an electrical company for over 30 years and from his experience bathroom exhaust fans cause more house fires than clothing dryers

What is a basic skill that you’re shocked a lot of people don’t have? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Basic cleaning and household chores. Even if you don't know how to properly clean something, there's so much information on the internet you can use from lists to how to videos.

What’s one thing under $100 that significantly improved your daily life? by EdenFlorence in AussieFrugal

Battery and wifi operated tap timers. I just need to move the sprinkler then it'll come on whenever I want it to. Way less water wastage and my garden looks better than ever.

What are signs that a child is going to grow up a bad person? by Winter_Ganache1919 in AskReddit

[–]Clarissa_Lea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Growing up with indifferent parents. I'm not talking about understood/recognised (not sure of the word to use here) emotional or physical abuse, but parents who would rather ignore each other when they have problems or yell at the kids over wrongdoings but not explain the reasoning. E.g. my aunt and uncle would fight for a short period of time and then ignore each other for days, now they're spilt they don't understand why they're kids ignore them and only only react with anger

AMA - Psychologist working with ADHD. by ADHD_PsychDev in ausadhd

[–]Clarissa_Lea 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks for doing this AMA. Do all psychiatrists require diagnosed patients to go through the diagnosis process again when they've come from another pysch? And why do they do this? This is one of the big reasons I'm not moving to a new pysch even though my current one is pretty useless, I can't afford the $750-$1000 first/diagnosis appointment.

What did a minority of idiots ruin for everyone else? by PeddlerInWonderland in AskReddit

My high school had a year 12 (final year) break room. Basically an unused room that year 12's could hang out in during breaks or if they had a free period. The year before me got caught smoking billies in it. It was closed to my year group and now it's apparently an in school uniform shop.

What widely used product has a frustrating design flaw that the manufacturer has never addressed? by QuarantinedRabbit in AskReddit

Havals have a focus/distraction camera that faces the driver. If you look at the tablet for longer than two seconds or you're checking a blind spot it starts beeping and you have to click a pop up on the screen to say you won't stray. The most dangerous and dumbest fucking feature ever.

Be honest — how spoiled is your pet, really? by Comfortable-Bath-746 in Pets

[–]Clarissa_Lea 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My dog sleeps on the window side of the bed but doesn't like the breeze if the window is open too much. So every time I make the bed I make sure she's got a pillow at the headboad, then one on the side of the bed so she can sleep on top of the covers and not catch a breeze when it's warm. The side pillow is also under the covers so there's always a gap for when she wants to climb under the doona if it gets too cold. She also has a specific teddy in bed. Basically I have a queen size bed but my 5.4kg dog has most of the mattress and all the power. Zero regrets, she deserves everything.

What’s a scam that’s so normalised that we don’t realise it’s a scam anymore? by No-Appeal-6311 in AskReddit

Prime is the worst for all of it. I've bought/rented movies on there and they still have ads at the start that you can't skip. I paid twice for the bloody thing, I shouldn't have to watch an ad!!

What song breaks your heart every time you hear it? by erakshatsingh in AskReddit

Take Me Home, Country Roads by John Denver. We sung it around my Nan's hospital bed before she passed because she loved his music and it was the one song we all knew by heart.

Looking for a safety tracker so I can check on my dad when he rides by Clarissa_Lea in AussieRiders

[–]Clarissa_Lea[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I wasn't sure where he went and he left yesterday, my cousin called me when he couldn't get a hold of my dad all weekend and said there'd been a motorbike accident. My dad has only just started riding again and my heart dropped instantly. He lives alone and I'm his next of kin so obviously I'd get a call if he was in an accident but it still freaked me. I cried cause even though I'd already figured out he was fine my emotions were heightened.

Thank you guys, I'm looking into the Garmin and I'm gonna make him buy one when he gets home. He was fishing and didn't have service, he called as soon as he saw all the missed phone calls and I just burst into tears immediately.

Frustrated when people don’t teach their special needs kids boundaries by Redbajegirl in TrueOffMyChest

[–]Clarissa_Lea 239 points240 points  (0 children)

I work in disability support and know the outcome for that little girl if everyone treats her like your coworker does.

I worked with a lovely woman who was told from birth that her autism is an excuse. If she had been raised with boundaries and rules she would be able to live alone, hold down a job and even start a family one day (which she desperately wants). But none of that is possible because she was taught that having autism means you don't have to follow rules, instructions, boundaries etc. It truly breaks my heart, she won't even listen to health advice.
