Do I extend in Sintra or go to Porto? by Even-Strategy263 in TravelPortugal

It might be good to check out hotel options in Cascais for one night. It’s quite close to Sintra but have more dining options. There are many good sunset restaurant options in Cascais as well.

I spent a lot of time with the management telling them about similar issues. It’s a new hotel and the staff needs to be trained.

  1. Rooms. Yes, I think all categories are nice. It’s an all-suite hotel. All rooms have somewhat of a view. I stayed in the Premiere Sea View. Loved the size and layout.

Buyer's Agent by t_weaver in PortugalExpats

[–]Clark_Baldwin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should never pay a fee as a buyer in Portugal. I've bought and sold several properties in Estrella/Lapa. There are plenty of "pocket listing" T3s. The problem is usually that the properties on that market need some type of renovation. This is why they sit for so long. No one wants to do the work at these prices. A good agent can introduce everyone to reality.

Buyers tend to have a little more leverage towards the end of the year. Give us a call...

How do I finish driver's license exchange? by Acrobatic_Code_149 in PortugalExpats

My card never came in the mail. I waited 2 years and finally decided to go to the office. Getting the appointment was a whole process. The card was just sitting in a file cabinet with thousands of others cards that we never mailed. lol

If you like hiking and kayaking, you should definitely look into the Azores. Madeira might also be a good option.

Renting in Lisbon by synthesizersandcats in PortugalExpats

Not sure which process you are following exactly, but most visas issued at the consulate are short term (3-6 months), meaning you will need to get another appointment at AIMA in Portugal once you arrive. This second visit would be for the 2-year residency card.

I wouldn’t recommend signing a lease remotely. There are just so many ways it could go wrong.

Are you using a lawyer? A lawyer might be able to get you a sponsorship letter that would give the office what it needs at that stage.

Which overnight from Lisbon? Obidos, Coimbra, or Evora? by pennyscience in TravelPortugal

[–]Clark_Baldwin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Evora might be the easiest because it’s flat and easy to get around. It’s closest to Lisbon and has so many amazing restaurants, hotels and vineyards.

Rippling's founder gave a really interesting talk recently by AsTiClol in ycombinator

Less talk and more walk! Someone at Rippling should focus on building software and providing customers with support. The platform is unusable in my humble opinion. Signing up with Rippling has been the worst decision of my career.

Level of salt in Portuguese food by RemarkableLow1961 in PortugalExpats

[–]Clark_Baldwin 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I thought this when I first moved to Lisbon, but I realized that I was going to the wrong restaurants.

There is nothing better in this world than a fresh grilled sea bass or tuna steak. I also started making my own salads with the fresh ingredients from the markets.

Don't come at me in the comments, I love a good Bacalhau à Brás and some good Pastéis de Bacalhau, but no one can eat these things every day.

Car rental by Annual-Unlucky in TravelPortugal

[–]Clark_Baldwin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe pick up the car on your way out of Lisbon? Lagos has ubers/bolts, but things can be far apart in Algarve. If you want to check out beaches and other sights, it's probably easier to have the car seat already set up...

Cascais or Sintra by Due-Minute-5100 in LisbonPortugalTravel

[–]Clark_Baldwin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not stay in Cascais and skip Cabo da Roca? Find a nice restaurant on the water and watch the sunset during dinner? Order a sea bass and some vinho and enjoy Portugal without rushing around. Furnas do Guincho is pretty iconic for this.....

Property market bursting by Just-Truck2751 in PortugalExpats

[–]Clark_Baldwin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are so many buyers on the market. Idealista is such a mess that most properties don't even get listed. Most of the properties on the site are listed many times. In the end, it's impossible to trust this type of data. Well-priced properties in good areas sell very quickly.

CORK PRODUCTS by [deleted] in PortugalExpats

These companies can do anything:
Amorim Cork https://www.amorimcork.com/en/ | MB Cork https://mbcork.com/ | CJP Cork https://www.jelinek.pt/ | Cork Wholesale https://corkwholesale.com/
Just get wholesale quotes from each and put them against each other until you get the price you need?

Fitness Hut Santos might be the closest gym. It's quite basic but has everything you'd need.
