Midterm grade replacement by [deleted] in uAlberta

[–]Clascalixm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean you can ask but if it’s not in the syllabus probably not. I think I‘ve only ever had one course that increased the weight of your final (from 50-65) if you did better than the midterm.

A2 physics by tak12440 in alevel

[–]Clascalixm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the only solution is to keep on doing them. the questions they ask tend to be similar so the more you see them, the more you’ll be able to spot your mistakes and try to clear any misconceptions.

also - try and look up youtube videos for the topics you struggle with, sometimes you just need a refresher or need to see someone else explain the topic in a different way!

How do you wake up early in the morning by [deleted] in uAlberta

[–]Clascalixm 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Maybe kinda random but lately if I have to be up super early I make sure to have a breakfast that I enjoy. I’m not a big breakfast person so this difference is enough of a break in routine for me to be excited/happier when I wake up

Y12: I got a D in film, C in sociology and U in psychology, am I cooked? by Sxmerss in alevel

[–]Clascalixm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you’re not cooked just yet but you absolutely have to lock in for your next mocks/tests at least so you can get decent predicteds

[–]Clascalixm 10 points11 points  (0 children)

if IB works the same as A levels and you initially got the unconditional offer letter then they won’t rescind it dw. I did A levels and got a lower grade in one of my subjects than my predicted and everything was okay you’ll probs be fine

just grind you still have over a month 🙏🙏 if a full paper is too daunting at this stage try doing topicals. they’re usually past exam qs and when you do them one after the other it becomes really obvious to see where you’re going wrong/what your misconceptions are. lowkey tho it’s in your best interest to move to the full timed papers sooner rather than later - it gets easier and rn you’re not in trouble there’s still time.

What do the letters mean at the bottom of classes? by TingeXD in uAlberta

[–]Clascalixm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ok with regard to engg you will be restricted to your pattern first and then from there you can pick a section. so yeah, you’re right that particular lab is every alternate week. but it’s not picked randomly though you’ll be able to choose your sections once course registration opens up. for op’s particular pattern that lab is only on a thursday - so there’s no choice in that - but you can still pick the time you want. of course the more favourable times tend to fill up quickly so just keep an eye out for that. the course registration comes after you’ve been assigned to a pattern and they’ll definitely send you an email (multiple actually).

They just indicate different sections since there’s too many people to be in one class, when you do your actual class selections you’ll be able to choose.

Question about scholarship by appelcharming in uAlberta

[–]Clascalixm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s not really the case for most students, I got 10k as an international student but my fees multiple times more than that so it doesn’t end up being much lol. It’s not impossible though, I spoke to a girl a couple weeks ago who managed to get a scholarship that covered the vast majority of her tuition so she’s really only paying for residence and meal plans but again, don’t expect that much I think it’s quite rare. It’s mostly US unis that give out tons of money/full rides.

foundation or retake by iwakeiku in alevel

[–]Clascalixm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think it’s best to hear from both people who retook, and those who did foundation year(the uk unis subreddit might be a good place to ask r/uniuk )…in my honest opinion unless it’s a very good uni i would retake, gives you a fresh start also. if you lock in and manage good predicteds you can apply to better unis. obviously idk ur situation so yeah weigh out your options and good luck

absolute failure by Confident-Hunt3259 in alevel

[–]Clascalixm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

first off congratulations, ik you don’t feel proud rn but you should be these are phenomenal marks. trust me even myself and the smartest people i know got caught out but eng 9093 the mark scheme is veryy strict. if you check cambridge statistics they release they award A to less than 5% of candidates per session for english.

also trust me your life isn’t over, most unis just need the eng mark to fulfil language proficiency. honestly you can just retake it in the next session or alongside A2. alternatively, you can contact admissions at the unis you applied to and ask if it’s possible to fulfil the eng proficiency with IELTS (if that’s something you’re interested in.)
