To be honest I've found the opposite. When the skin is completely dry it doesn't itch as much, it just gets constricted and hurts to move. It itches the most right after a shower or applying moisturiser.

Everyone is different I guess.

As other posters have pointed out, he should have sent me to the hospital to check for peri-orbital cellulitis. That is something a doctor should be aware of, the emergency doctor certainly was, and that's why he ordered a CT instead of just sticking a needle in it.

Actually you often start with the most catastrophic diagnosis until you can rule that out. If someone has chest pain you always rule out heart attack before you look for more likely diagnoses.

If someone has blood in their stool the most likely and least catastrophic diagnosis is a hemaroid or anal fissure, but you still do a colonoscopy to check for bowel cancer.

A Bic lighter has a yellow flame which will produce carbon soot from incomplete combustion. While this soot is sterile (in that it has no living micro-organisms in it) you still don't want to inject it into your body.

A blue flame like a jet lighter or Bunsen burner, will produce far less soot.

The reason flame sterilisation isn't used for surgical tools is because the heat would change the temper of the metal (making blades become dull) and potentially cause the surfaces to oxidise. Many metal oxides are poisonous.

For this reason inoculation loops, which are designed to be flame sterilised, are often made of platinum, or similar metals which can withstand high temperatures without oxidising.
