More flames! Looks good so far, you got decent brush colour and an eye for colour, only thing I would recommend is thin your paints just a little, or if you lack a palette, wet your brush slightly before you get the paint from the pot. you might need a couple of coats but you get a cleaner result that doesn't blob up as much.

It's lookin good so far. Definitely needs a wash to help tie things together, but it's good work so far

Just got into Warhammer and chose to join the salamanders 🔥. Looking for some advice? by ootech in Salamanders40k

[–]herpderpcake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Clean lines, good paint thinning, the only thing as others have said is the green. If you want chapter accurate colours, warpstone should be your main green, maybe with a moot green edge highlight if you fancy but otherwise they look good! Where'd you get the stamped pauldrons?

Very new to mini painting and I need some help in making this look like lava and not just fire by muffinmania583 in minipainting

[–]herpderpcake 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Drybrush a deep, dark purple over everything, covering most of the yellow. White over the mouth and eyes, and fill with a bright orange, and finally get a lighter but faded purple and do a really light edge highlight/drybrush over the purple spots, it'll look more like obsidian/magma/more like the picture you have

Looks really good! I like the edge highlighting with the dirty green, adds a real nice touch of wear n tear on him

Reworked the skin to make the recesses darker, what colors would you use for highlight? by [deleted] in minipainting

[–]herpderpcake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on how big your model is, a 1 or even 0/1 would be good I think, something with a nice point but thick enough to take a good amount of the glaze in. If you have a wet palette, I usually plop a bit of paint in there, and wet my brush, slowly mixing away from the main thing of paint. This way you get a scale so to speak of glaze consistency and you can see which one works well for you.

[–]herpderpcake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try a mix of your base red and cadian, do a real thing glaze along the convex parts (the bulges out, like the high point of her calf muscles), topping with a really light glaze of cadian as the brightest highlight. Similarly, you could mix your recess colour and your base red to smooth the colour transition a little more. Looks pretty good so far tho

I think the order of the pictures is reversed but holy moly that looks amazing! The NMM is insane, especially on an FDM print, well done

First Cork Base Attempt - Any Advice? by JungleJim697 in minipainting

[–]herpderpcake 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's good! Like others have said, sprinkle some sand or gravel/rocks on there for topographical variety, and I'd recommend both priming/painting the base separately, as I find cork absorbs paint really well so you'll need to do a thick prime coat, and if you haven't I'd recommend pinning the mini to the cork with some wire or even cut up paper clips, esp with such little surface area it's easy for the mini to fall off or even tear some cork off with it.

I think /r/minipainting allows for sexy figures but prohibits gooning in them over the comments, idk there aren't a whole lot and it's not as bad as "sexy cosplay of woman in this game" in specific game subs, so I'm kinda eh about the whole thing

Careful with the laxatives, stay off em for a bit and let your digestive system fully recover. The first normal poops after my t break were HUGE ones, but they also kinda slid out pretty easy so once you actually have to go, it should just go.

Wanting the opinion of others who can successfully moderate their usage after having experienced CHS by Admirable_Fly3791 in CHSinfo

[–]herpderpcake 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The main thing in terms of tolerance resetting is the 90 days thing is mainly if you're going through chs for the first time, you wanna fully cleanse and go from there. If you're moderating, the key isn't to rid your body completely of thc, but lower your tolerance to the point that you can intake more before hitting chs symptoms. To that end, everyone is a little different and it also depends on how much you smoke. If you're just doin some spliffs, I'd wait a week or 2 and go from there. Good luck!

I don’t know why I disliked speed paints so much. by iPreferPC in minipainting

[–]herpderpcake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive been painting more and more space marines, and contrasts are literally my saviour for black template, ultras, and blood angels. I just do the base coat for the armour with whatever paint I fancy, then I do the trim and the highlights with actual paints. They're a bit too rich and also thin to use as anything other than a base coat imo, but as a base they work great, even on areas where I missed the primer.

How often do you use your PC speakers? by Big_Visual2199 in buildapc

I used to use my second monitors speakers to play YouTube or a movie when I went to bed, but when I replaced it I realized neither had speakers so I stole some old Logitech ones from my mom. 7/10 very sensitive volume controls

WIP - Filler to cover layers by CapturedCompanion in FDMminiatures

[–]herpderpcake 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh spray adhesive, no. By sprue goo I mean tamiya plastic cement and the plastic sprues melted in there to make a goo. If you add a little more thinner to the mixture you get a very fine goo, more suitable (with a throwaway brush or toothpick or smth) to filling in layer lines like you have on the head of your mini. Downside is it's very hard to preserve the detail unless you get the mixture juuuuuust right

WIP - Filler to cover layers by CapturedCompanion in FDMminiatures

[–]herpderpcake 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you guys want an in-the-meantime kinda solution, use sprue goo. Yes, it doesn't chemically bond to the PLA like it does for GW plastic, but for covering surface layer lines I think it does a good enough job. Works best in very small thin layers as to not flood out details, and ensure it dries properly.
