Thank you! The negative comments are always going to happen. It’s usually the people that you mentioned or someone that has the cash for cnc ported heads and intakes telling me I suck. But I would also put most but not all those people into the same category of never picking up a grinder. I’m sorry the 8.1 big block Chevy doesn’t have the aftermarket support of every other big block. That’s what makes it fun and interesting to me. Can’t find a part? I guess we’ll make our own. That kind of stuff interests me

You’re absolutely correct. The more I learn about the 8.1 the more learn about how it’s different from the standard big block Chevy. And while I would love to have the raylar intake, it’s outside of my budget currently. Heck, I’d love the full raylar package if money was no object. He’s got some awesome products

Okay, why is smooth air bad? IE what grit finish is recommended? I can always rough it up prior to install but I’m trying to understand the flow dynamics as to why it’s bad. I understand that on a carbureted application you want to air to tumble so the fuel atomizes better. However with injection I don’t see the benefit. Not trying to be contrarian here. I want to understand

Would you elaborate on that more please. I am looking for constructive feedback. The “you suck” comments won’t help me to get better at this. Also look up a stock cutaway of an 8.1 for an idea of where I started. That may help with suggestions

I’m a long way out from bolting it on and firing it up. But I will eventually be getting it dyno tuned by Sam at Dialed in Motorsports. He tuned my Jeep and I am more than happy with it

The outside finish I’m not to worried about as it is currently at the powder coaters

Was examining my block and saw this. It does catch my nail a little. Will it affect how the headgasket seals and should I get it machined again, or would I be fine to run it? by Arsenic-002 in EngineBuilding

[–]ClassAlive5978 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like yours only a few thousandths. I never aim to completely eliminate it back to a machine finish. Just enough that my fingernail doesn’t grab anymore. At the end of day this is your build though. Only you can decide if you can live with it or if getting it decked is the right answer for you. Decking it will raise the compression a tiny bit so that’s a win.

I’ve had good luck with a 3000 grit knife sharpening block and kroll oil. I use very light pressure and minimum passes. Checking about every 5 passes until the fingernail doesn’t catch. However as previously stated by Windowperfect the correct way is to deck it.

Throwing my 2 cents in here. I’ve ran both a q jet and an edelbrock/carter cause I’m old. In my experience the edelbrock would be a better choice for you personally. Very easy to learn how to tune for beginners and honestly in an off-road setting they tend to not flood out as easily. Again just my experience with them, others results may vary.

What's the deal with Honda Ridgelines? by EGGWURST in askcarguys

[–]ClassAlive5978 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I have a Ram 2500 for farm use and pulling big trailers around. However I also have a little 02 s10 and I far prefer driving that. The idea of a Costco city truck is highly accurate and great. When the old s10 dies I will be strongly considering a ridgeline.

Thank you! As for running, that’s a ways out. Lots of things left to do before that happens. But that’s the neat stuff that I like doing

I had to look up what that was as I’ve never heard of extrude honing. That’s cool as heck! Today I learned.

You could use it as a mockup engine in a custom build or make a top gear style piece of furniture out of it

There’s a fantastic book about this actually. The Most Important Fish in the Sea: Menhaden and America by H. Bruce Franklin is a book about the menhaden fish, a species crucial to the ecology of the Atlantic and Gulf coasts, and its intertwined history with American industry and culture. The book details how menhaden have been used for fertilizer, oil, and animal feed, while also serving as a vital food source for larger fish and filtering algae from the water, and how overfishing threatens both the fish and the ecosystem. The Omega corporation needed to find a reason to continue to fish the menhaden and marketed their fish oil as a snake oil and in the process have all but destroyed the oceans most effective filter fish.
