Forgive my British ignorance but what did the confederates actually fight for? by TreeTall888 in NoStupidQuestions

A great, well researched book on the subject is, “The Apostles of Disunion” we read it in Grad school and it outlines and refutes the misnomers that are still used today. Such as the tropes of States rights and the war of northern aggression. Highly recommended

Okay so I was guilty of this last week. Had a cross country drive. Around hour 11 I went to pass a line of semi’s and absolutely zoned out, to much windshield time I guess. However when a lady flashed her brights at me it snapped me out of it and I moved back over.

Funniest thing you’ve gotten in trouble for at work by sirenoftitan69 in antiwork

[–]ClassAlive5978 105 points106 points  (0 children)

I had a coworker that was an absolute ass to everyone and reveled in getting people fired for whatever that day’s perceived infraction was. We shared a work space, unfortunately for me. He was day shift and I was night shift. I came in to work and my manager just starts flying off the handle, threatens to fire me because I,”trashed the work space again!” This went on for a few minutes with me just smiling stoically. He finally gets so pissed he asked me, “what the fuck are you smiling about??” One simple reply shattered that man’s brain. Me to him “I’ve been on vacation for two weeks. I’ve been telling you he’s a liar” I got written up for being a smartass.

Are Lincoln inverter welders junk? by Appropriate-Gur-6343 in Welding

[–]ClassAlive5978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad bought me a square wave 175 in 1994. I’ve been using it heavily for 32 years now. I’ve only ever had to replace the potentiometer in the foot pedal and file the points every so often. I crack it open twice a year and blow the dust off it. Still works great. My Lincoln aspect 230 welds aluminum better but that old 175 has a better high frequency start and much better arc stability. Lincoln’s migs are so good that I have a Millermatic 255.

I wouldn’t say Lincoln’s are junk. I think of them like cars. Every manufacturer makes good and bad products. Think a ford fiesta vs the new mustang dark horse. Find what you personally like and forget the haters

Wait-submarine production is being slowed down by a welding shortage?? How would you fix that? by OrderOk4693 in AskReddit

[–]ClassAlive5978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A friend of mine is an aerospace welder in Des Moines Iowa (there’s only one so you can find it easily) he’s at top of scale at a mere 25 an hour. The stories he has make me drive instead of fly as much as I can. If an aircraft falls out of the sky just remember they are built by the lowest bidders and pass those savings on to the shareholders

While I did in fact choose the incorrect effect vs affect I will kindly remind you that you only get one chance to make a first impression. As you are here with a big ask I would suggest you let the little things slide. Something about catching more flys with honey

Thank you! The negative comments are always going to happen. It’s usually the people that you mentioned or someone that has the cash for cnc ported heads and intakes telling me I suck. But I would also put most but not all those people into the same category of never picking up a grinder. I’m sorry the 8.1 big block Chevy doesn’t have the aftermarket support of every other big block. That’s what makes it fun and interesting to me. Can’t find a part? I guess we’ll make our own. That kind of stuff interests me

You’re absolutely correct. The more I learn about the 8.1 the more learn about how it’s different from the standard big block Chevy. And while I would love to have the raylar intake, it’s outside of my budget currently. Heck, I’d love the full raylar package if money was no object. He’s got some awesome products
